http://www.gainesville.com/article/...t-Co-Human-remains-found-in-abandoned-minivan

An older model minivan, last registered in Georgia and far from roadworthy, had been sitting on Florida property for about five years. Once it was moved, human remains were found in a plastic drum inside the van.

It sounds as though the van was abandoned on the property since it wasn't the landowners' but there's no information about whether it had been driven there under its own power. I cannot find anyone who went missing with a Grand Caravan that wasn't recovered.

Which means the would have to roll up all unsolved mysteries from 5 years ago..... My guess is that they will have to reach over the county lines..... I wonder what they will find out if female or male.... if the are even able to identify the poor soul....... just imagine..... hidden away for over 5 years..... someone must be missing her or him.....

Possible:
Tara Grinstead - Ocilla, GA 10/22/05 http://mapq.st/gLvgfy 2hrs 55 mins
Justin Gaines - Duluth, GA 11/02/07 http://mapq.st/eghw8G 5 hrs 49 min
Benjamin M. McCullers - Crescent, GA 06/02/07 http://mapq.st/hgSOPL 3 hrs 24 min
Debra Gail DeLoach Moody - Ludowici, GA 12/04/07 http://mapq.st/eVZTPG 3 hrs 43 mins

GBI missing persons http://gbi.georgia.gov/00/case/0,2692,67862954_74030306,00.html

Others may be possible but I only mapped the ones from the GBI site that were missing from GA during the approximate 5 year time frame.

Please note that the GBI site is not all inclusive. They apparently only list cases they are involved in.

Does this mean they have a hunch who it is?

“We are working on two things now -- trying to determine the manner of death and trying to contact the family of the likely victim,” Aderholt said.

A search for the last registered owner of the van was continuing on Tuesday.

Wonder if it was in the possible victim capacity.

Just throwing this case in the ring because I can't find anything that says this van was ever found, still looking. There may also be a GA connection and the timing is close.

ETA: All of the known participants in this case are accounted for. I have played with the idea that somebody else may have been involved and was killed to silence them. Just a wild theory I thought may be a possibility.

Possible, but probably not probable. :)

Still trying to determine if they ever found the van...

ETA: I am assuming (dangerous, I know) that they found the van as it is not mentioned as still being missing during the trial. It says at this link that the van was driven back to GA after the victim was killed. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/may/21/slaying-suspect-testifies-he-didnt-shoot-man/

I wonder where Gary Hilton was 5+ years ago.
This case does not fit his MO but he DID boast he switched it up to cause confusion...

Quote from original article, link above:
20 to 30 gallon, round, black plastic container with a snap-on lid that had been inside the van.
Endquote

Anybody have an guesses as to what kind of container this might be? Purpose?

When I think of my 50 gallon fish tank - this container is not that large.
More of a child size container than adult, imo.
Although, adult bodies have been found in much smaller containers (Becky Hamilton, RIP)

I think the town of "Trenton" is in Gilchrist County. Surely if the remains found were of a child they would announce that information?

The van with the body is described as an older model, no longer roadworthy. A 2006 model vehicle would have been pretty new if it was dumped somewhere in 2007 but I suppose you can wreck and damage a new vehicle to the point it's not roadworthy.

I'm thinking of a tote box similar to this one.

Thanks Carl,

I thought the same but what throws me is they say it is round?

I worked at a plastics factory that made totes (Sterilite) and I do not remember ever making round ones. Not that it is not possible, for sure. But it throws me more into the "repurposing" of a container line of thought. I am having trouble envisioning this 20-30 gal. round with a snap lid container.
I never saw any black containers either. The only things black I saw come through there were toy parts.
LOL, I did think of calling the management there and asking some questions but they closed down.

I am even trying to think of containers used in commercial kitchens and can't come up with anything.

Depending on the circumference of this container it would be about 1/2 the height of a 55 Gal. drum or if a smaller circumference it would be a taller, more cylindrical shape right?

I really wish we would get more details..... male female....... Even though looking up distances.... I am not really ready to keep it "close"..... Many victims ended up far from original place..... even Orlando and surroundings would be in my questioning....

Yes. I agree. The only reason I started in Georgia is because that is where the van was last registered. Just a jumping off point was all :)
I have lots of ideas Re: FL missing :)
Where would you like to search, begin, etc...
I'll help :) You name it and I'll help any way I can :)

Donjeta and CarlK90245, both good ideas!

So you both think the "snap lid" could be as simple as a trash can lid? OK, I won't over-think it then, lol.

I just kept thinking, if it was a trash can why did they not just SAY trash can? OK, I won't over think it, for now.....lol! :)

BTW, Donjeta, those rolling buckets are really neat. I could use one of those around the house.

you know... it is so sad.... Florida, the US, the world has far to much missing, unsolved mysteries, without a trace or plain cold cases......

It is so easy to speculate but as well dangerous.....

I wonder in what shape the body was ...... I don't even wanna think that she/he might be cut up or so..... than it wouldn't be a problem to hide in a kind of small can....

The article doesn't really give a lot away..... and I can't find anything else regarding that..... for heavens sake this victim was a human being and deserves justice and a honorable place to rest......

Yes, that person deserves to have their name back and proper handling of remains in whatever fashion, whether it be by burial or cremation etc.
I assure you I mean no disrespect by speculating but this is kind of "in my back yard" if you will, so I am more than curious about it.

IMO, WS is a great place to tear cases apart and dissect them down to threads.
I love having the input of so many other people with various backgrounds and experiences to bring to the table.

The article states that the remains were found towards the beginning of this month. We are now closer to the end of the month. Mtdna can be done in a just a few short days, right? So perhaps they are waiting for the better/longer version of DNA testing to be completed.

In any event, I don't see how us guessing or presenting possibilities and rule outs is harming anything. I would never want to do harm. If you think I might be, could you please explain how?

you are not... not at all.... smile.... I am more talking about myself..... I tend to hang on to ideas and as you say dissect it..... I know you don't harm..... just frustrating not to get more news and details.... I am sorry that you have it almost in your back yard..... I guess not a real nice feeling....... WE CAN DO THAT.....

by the way off topic.... cute profil picture..... I have only two beasties..... Bobby the Beagle and Gingy the Ginger Snap also beagle......

Thanks. No worries. :)

I am back to wondering how many white vans Gary Hilton had. He had the one he owned when he was arrested and they found the one he abandoned. Like you, I wish we had more information. I am very curious as to whether this van is white.

OT: Dinner, BBL.

Those Brute containers aren't like the normal residential trash cans with a lid that just sits on the top. The lids really do snap on tightly. They are often used in restaurant pantries to hold grains, beans, etc.
