Circumstances of Disappearance
Martine suddenly disappeared from her foster home in Montmercy, France in September 1979.

Her disappearance has been linked to the disappearances of six other young women from the Auxerre area. They all had slight learning difficulties and attended the same special education center in Auxerre.

Chantal Gras, Bernadette Lemoine, Francoise Lemoine, Christine Marlot and Jacqueline Weis.

They may have been victims of a serial killer.

The serial killer Emile Louis is suspected of her murder. He received life in prison in 2004

The bodies of Jacqueline Weiss and Madeleine Dejust were discovered. Louis was also suspected with the murder of a British woman who was murdered in D'auxerre in 1990. (It appears another man was charged with that murder)

Bump. An interesting case which may have more to it than a serial murderer. Emile Louis - French criminals details links between Louis and the head of the home where the girls lived, plus evidence of deliberate ignoring of evidence and reports by the authorities. The suggestion is that the activities may have been more organised and involved others. A report from 2002 by the BBC (BBC News | EUROPE | Mystery of France's missing girls) also links the murder of the British woman Joanna Parrish and provides even more alarming details of the possible scale of the activities in Auxerre, suggesting as many as 30 missing young women. At the time of the Parrish murder Louis was imprisoned so, if it was connected to the other cases it is certain others were involved.
