''ATLANTA — Joshua Dowd, 28, remains in the hospital in a coma after suffering a severe brain injury on July 11.

“He’s fighting really hard,” said Josh’s partner of 3 1/2 years, Colin Kelly. “It’s about healing his brain.”

Kelly has spent the last two weeks by his partner’s side, comforting him inside Grady Memorial Hospital, where he’s also staying in close contact with Atlanta police who are investigating the incident as an aggravated assault after doctors determined that someone hit Josh in the head with an unknown object.

“They are looking at all sorts of leads ‚” Kelly said. “They’re also looking at surveillance video from surrounding businesses.”

Atlanta police launched their investigation after a stranger found Josh badly beaten and unconscious on train tracks in the Lindbergh area of Buckhead. Police haven’t identified a suspect and are working to determine a motive. Josh was last seen on surveillance video partying with friends at The Heretic on Cheshire Bridge Road. What happened after he left the bar remains a mystery.''

''ATLANTA — Five days after an Atlanta man was found unconscious on railroad tracks near Buckhead, a family wants answers.

Joshua Dowd had to have brain surgery and as he fights for his life, his partner, Colin Kelly, said his family is holding out hope that Dowd gets a miracle. Dowd, 28, was found on train tracks July 11 near Lakeshore Drive in Atlanta. A police incident report stated Dowd was bleeding from the head and barely breathing.

He was rushed to Grady Hospital, where his family said he needed a miracle to recover.

"Hospital employees told us this was a blunt force trauma to the head," Kelly said. "Some sort of device hit him on the head, hard enough to crack his skull, requiring a portion of his skull to be removed to relieve pressure on it. That is an assault. This person is unhinged. From what we can tell, they didn’t take anything from him. They just have put him within inches of losing his life and left everything else behind.”

The incident report called Dowd's case a "miscellaneous/non-crime," however, Kelly believes there is more to the story.

“I want to know why, I want them held accountable, and I want to make sure they don’t have the opportunity to do this again," Kelly said.''

Victim of brutal Buckhead assault making strides one year after attack

Doctors never expected Josh Dowd to wake up following a brutal attack last year in Buckhead, but the 29-year-old continues to defy the odds. Dowd understands something horrible happened to him, but he doesn’t remember what exactly.
