I’m not ruling anything out. But scammers have become incredibly good, especially in the past year.

Either way, I’m somewhat encouraged by the reports that the price was only 1k - that’s a lot of $ to a kid. It could be a teen overly confident in his editing skills and easy to rule as a fake, OR a teen savvy enough to record something valuable and price it accordingly. It should be easy to ascertain whether it’s real or fake, IMO.
If LE determines that the recording is a fake I wouldn't be surprised if the family disagrees. JMO

Oh, I absolutely agree with you. This is an extremely dedicated family. But they were ordered to pay the defense costs in their civil suit. That’s quite rare, in my experience. It’s one thing for a claim to not have strong legal support and another to be deemed so frivolous & baseless that the plaintiff has to pay defendants’ attorneys’ fees.

MOO.

Family of Kendrick Johnson ordered to pay nearly $300K in attorney fees

Judge Porter has now put those false accusations to rest and determined that the Johnsons’ and their lawyer’s accusations were substantially frivolous, groundless and vexatious. And for their misconduct, the Court has ordered the Johnsons and their lawyer to pay the attorneys’ fees and expenses of those whom they have falsely accused. All of those who have been falsely accused have been vindicated. Truth prevails. Justice has been done.

Defendants ask court to dismiss them from new Kendrick Johnson lawsuit

This is from another lawsuit from last year.
In January, Kendrick Johnson’s family filed a new lawsuit against 12 defendants, and the defendants want the state court to dismiss them from that case.
The initial filing from Taylor and the school district said the Johnsons did not give them the papers in a proper and timely manner. They also said the statute of limitations had run out on the case. They said the federal court has no jurisdiction in this case because the Johnsons failed to pay court costs for a previous lawsuit in state court.

IIRC they were ordered to pay because they fabricated evidence.

Theres a huge difference between a claim deemed legally frivolous and actually fabricating evidence. I’m not seeing anything that the Johnsons fabricated evidence. All I’m seeing is that the Johnsons admitted they lacked evidence for their allegations in their civil suits.
Sorry, I had not looked into the reasons they were ordered to pay almost $300,000 to the people they sued in a long time. You did catch my IIRC right? @RANCH corrected my statement by posting an article with the correct terms of frivolous, et. al.

You're correct that there's a difference. I missed the part where the Johnson's admitted they lacked evidence for their allegations.

They actual admitted to that? No wonder they got hit with the $300,000 judgement. JMO

I did a quick search and this popped up: Sheriff reopens Kendrick Johnson case in Valdosta

"Lowndes County Superior Court Senior Judge Richard Porter ruled against the parents, accusing the Johnsons and their attorney, Chevene King, of fabricating evidence to support their claims."

One thing that I'm certain of is that the Johnson's haven't gotten good legal advice or representation. JMO

The Tape (More)
... Johnson family spokesperson Marcus Coleman... The man who said the words has not been identified...
“The person on the tape must be identified, Ii it is a hoax, with the scammer who sold it, we need to know why those words exist on that tape,” Coleman said...
@imstilla.grandma bbm sbm Thx for your post & link.

“The person on the tape must be identified, Ii [sic] it is a
hoax, with the scammer who sold it, we need to know why those words exist on that tape,” Coleman said."

I'd appreciate help in understanding the logic of ^ stmt.
If the tape is a hoax, scam, or somebody's idea of a prank, then seems obvious why those words were recorded on the tape and why the tape eventually reached K.J.'s Mother. Money & perhaps eventual publicity.
Something else? What am I missing?
