As I have done on other cases, I've taken Louis Eugene Barbero photo, and Detroit, MI unidentified's photo and used them as references to create a single 3D mesh. I then overlaid, and oriented the 3D mesh over both photos. While there are a couple of adjustments I missed when creating the mesh, they're insignificant. Based on the overlay (and details), I suspect these are the same two people.

A single 3D mesh oriented over both photos:

(Disclaimer: More reference photos would create a more accurate 3D mesh. Approximations were made given Louis' smile, lens distortion, and the unidentified's beard.)

Note that the unidentified does not have a websleuths page that I could find.

It sounds like he disappeared on purpose. He probably wasn't going to an appliance repair call. The fact all the money was missing from the bank account seems to prove he moved onto some new life. I don't see how someone other than him could take all money from their account? Did his wife even know his real name as he was going to by an alias when he vanished? He more than likely came up with a new alias, acquired a new wife and or maybe more than one alias and wife and nobody ever connected the dots. Maybe he's that John Doe or maybe not. If he has any known biological family they perhaps may want to put their DNA in genealogy databases as well as give it to LE as maybe in his new life ( although he was 51) he had (more?) descendents and they are out there somewhere.
