This is heartbreaking. The poor children. The poor mother.

The autopsies of the five children all indicate suffocation and sedation.

Authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia have filed five murder charges and an arrest warrant against a 27-year-old woman who is currently receiving medical attention after jumping in front of a train. The mother of six was not yet ready for arrest or questioning on Friday afternoon.

The killings have caused widespread shock in Germany.

The woman sent a sixth child, her eldest, to stay with his grandmother Thursday before attempting to take her own life by jumping in front of a train at the Duesseldorf railway station. She suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, and investigators have not questioned her yet, officials said.

Post-partum depression or psychosis of some kind? Perhaps she barely recovered from each of the last three births. This sort of reminds me of Andrea Yates. So very sad.
