Having the Chief of Police, James Burke involved in Oak Beach prostitution and other deeds, explains why so little progress has been made on the Shannan Gilbert and other LISK deaths.

Many officers would have known of Burke's activities, and would be very circumspect when doing any investigating, as not to discover anything harmful to Chief Burke if they wanted to maintain their career. Now I understand why the investigation was so slow, incomplete and meandering. Nobody in LE wanted to discover anything.

I am curious to know if Shannan's 911 call could have implicated Burke, and that is why it has not been released?

Hopefully ethical LE officers will step forward and do their job, and the case(s) will be solved.

this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. So far this woman has not provided any proof that any of this actually ocurred, other than her word; which as an admitted escort is dubious at best. Based on his past internal history Burke definately had a checkered past, but that does not mean he's a serial killer. I will offer an alternative motivation for any possibility that Burke may not have wanted any headway in the investigation. Provided that ANY of what this woman is true, Burke may not have wanted investigators to go poking around and have his name come up as an attendee of sex parties, as this would have career ending ramifications and be extremely embarrassing, as well as opening him up to criminal liability. That all on it's own would be motivation enough to want to see an investigation stalled, It would be remote in the most extreme sense that Burke himself would actually be the killer, as several of victims had definite times of last being seen, it would be fairly easy to account for Burke's whereabouts. That being said, the word of an escort backed by an attention seeking lawyer is little more than gossip at this point. I have an investigative background, and I can tell you from personal experience, that you never take anything at face value, everything must be vetted and corroborated...Don't jump to conclusions.

John Ray is not the first to suggest Burke's involvement. But he's the first one to lay out a theory of it at a press conference.

JR is a saint. He and Mari Gilbert were committed to keeping this case alive. Without the two of them and their relentless pursuit of justice, I doubt the case would have progressed to this point. I also doubt that Mari Gilbert had the funds to pay for his legal service.

In addition to all the work he did for Shannon, he also represented Sarra pro bono after she killed Mari, saying that Mari would have wanted that because she loved Sarra, who was suffering from psychosis. That alone proves that he genuinely cares about the Gilbert family.

And now he continues his fight for justice, even without Mari by his side. He may have appeared dramatic at times over the years, but that's what it took to get the media's attention.

Certainly any lawyer who takes on high profile work pro bono or at reduced fees is hoping to gain some notoriety which ultimately leads to high paying clients. But you know what? When all this is said and done, John Ray deserves that.

It's not thin at all. ETA: Alot of people who turn states evidence were more involved than they let on. They're usually just the first to talk and are given a deal because their testimony is needed to convicted the others. I think this time Spota have given the deal and his support to the wrong guy! Burke is a career criminal now. Spota may have thought he could mentor Burke but ultimately was manipulated by him.

And yet here you are debunking "conspiracies" on an anonymous message board. So what's that about?

I made the mistake of doubting certain WS people because their theories and accusations seemed outlandish. But then who would ever think a Police Chief would beat the crap out of a handcuffed man in an interrogation room for stealing his gym bag (of tricks)? And yet it happened. And there is one WSer who knew what was up with Burke all along. He has been proven correct piece by piece over the years. Anyone who has spent any time reading in the LISK boards knows the rockstar WSer I'm talking about.

Additionally, many of us have done our own years-long investigations and come to our own conclusions, and are thrilled to have watched John Ray call out James Burke today. Don't assume that you're dealing with a bunch of idiots here who need to be told what to believe and what not to believe.
