Is anyone following other cases on websleuths? Are there any other Canadian cases on here?

Interesting that one of the grounds for appeal would be the change of venue to London, just 45 km from Woodstock. I was surprised too that the new venue was so close. I was expecting some place a lot farther. However, since this was such a big story, I don't suppose it would have been unknown anywhere in Ontario.

The evidence is so overwhelming even Derstine agrees, I don't know that it will make a difference. What could they possibly do in an appeal? Does anyone here have experience with appeal cases?

I was wondering, the family has held prior vigil in this same parking lot right?
(I didn't go to that one)
Why I ask is, do the peeps PARK in the parking lot there? or leave the parking lot void of cars for peeps?

Was also wondering, I'm not sure what business exactly is across the street but if there are a few of us going I'll bring a W/S plackard to congrate at then walk across the street. If that sounds like a plan.

Could a Woodstockian let me know is it KFC across the street? (google mapping)

I am not even sure where this location is I printed off the directions being 652 George st. Does that sound right? I think its in the parking lot of Zellers??

I live an hour away and dont believe I have ever been to woodstock just drove by it.

I thought that they said he would appeal because of all the charges against him and because the location was moved to London. Not sure why the move in venue could be appealed because they moved it out there so that he could have a fair trial. I think even if he does appeal this he wont get a second trial. JMO

Oh great. I bet he will appeal too, I bet he won't say a word at his sentencing either. What a piece of crap he is. I just cringe to think about who else he would have hurt, it looks like he was just getting started!!
Appealing a life sentence is pretty much the rule, not the exception. Since the Crown won on all counts, the defence has nothing to lose by appealing if Rafferty wants to. However, he'll have to do it himself unless some lawyer wants to make a name for himself pro bono, I believe. Also, the appeal would be before a panel of judges, so it's not likely to change the verdict. JMO

The part about mom and son sharing pills first shocked me, and then more or less clarified what sort of relationship MR has with his mother. Most moms (I hope) would do whatever they could to help a child (even a 28 year old child) with a pharmaceutical drug addiction. MR was probably complaining that the mean doctors wouldn't give him the specific drugs he wanted so, instead of being told to deal with it and listen to the doctors, his mom helped him get the drugs he decided he needed ... enabler.

I am not going to say it shocked be because when I first saw her I thought Oxy addict. I am not trying to judge or even talk about her in any way because she is a victim as well, but that was the first thing I thought.

I really think Derstine told her to come for his closing arguments so maybe the jury would be swayed by it, but I think before his closing the jury had a good idea with what they were going to do. JMO

I think she probably had a legal prescription and he mooched pills from her, then promised to replace them when he got more from his dealer(s).

I want to thank you, Bravo, for posting the link to this article. I had never read it before. It is quite an interesting look into the perspective of what "lifers" in protective custody face. It is a comfort to know that they have entered Hell. It also brings me to wonder if the death penalty would be an easier option to some of these people. Perhaps the death penalty could be returned as an option available at the request of the prisoner. Not that I would like to make it easier for them - but some may choose leathal injection over the rest of their lives under these conditions. If I consider the cost to the tax payer to keep these sucking valuable air... I certainly would support the option.

They might. But then again, in the US some people take pleas for LWOP instead of the possibility of being sentenced to death. I don't have any links, but I'm sure I've read that it is just as expensive to keep someone on death row as it is in regular prison.

As much as I wish people like MR didn't exist, I don't support the death penalty and am quite sure the federal government will not open it up. Many countries have gotten rid of it and as much as I abhor the current ruling party, I doubt they will re-open that particular conversation.

I just looked at wikipedia and it says that of the 194 countries that are a part of the UN (or have observer status) 50% do not have the death penalty and 25% have placed a moratorium on death penalty executions. Then again, that is wikipedia.

I'm cautiously optimistic that MR will never be paroled.

I believe George St. runs at the back of Zellers... but it faces onto the main street - 645 Dundas is the address. If you come via 401, take the Oxford Hwy 2 West exit... Hwy 2 is called Dundas St. in Woodstock. Once you cross over Huron St./Wilson St., the Zellers/Foodland parking lot is on the right. Only about a 5 minute drive from the 401, I think (but someone from Woodstock may correct me?)

Incidentally, if you turn left onto Wilson St., the house where TLM was living is just a few blocks up on the right.

Your welcome. Seemed fitting we get some satisfaction that life will be hell for Rafferty. It will be all about survival. Mentally and physically. I'll see if i can find it but Bernardo has been attacked. I believe once was during a shower. So it does and can happen.

Yes, it's across from KFC. The Zellers/Foodland parking lot is huge, although a part of it is taken up by a garden centre in the spring.

Sorry I don't understand....sensory deprivation keeps them sane? I would think it would make you insane. lol

LOL Not enough coffee yet i guess. You are correct. The deprivation leads to the insanity.

Creepy just to think about it LOL... Are you going?

do you have that article

What one? The one were she looks like an oxy addict or the one were her and MR exchanged oxy's? The one where she looks like one that was just my opinion I wasnt trying to bring her name up just was stating that when she showed up for the defences closing arguments that is what I though. I might be totally mistaken. I have aunts and uncles addicted to this stuff so I can see what it does to some people. If I am wrong I am okay with that. Just wanted to clarify it was only my opinion.

Sorry if I seem behind times here, but I have had a busy weekend, and am just trying to catch up. I did however see the verdict come out on Friday night. Thank God Justice is served.

I just watched Rodney's interview with CTV, WOW is about all I can say. That Man is something else. I am not sure I could have the grace and dignity he has had through all this if it were my child. I honestly believe he has been strong for the rest of Canada when in fact it should have been us being strong for him. I pray he always feels Tori beside him and knows how unbelievably proud she must be of him!!! I also hope Tara and Daryn feel Tori and pray they draw strength daily from Tori. Everyday I'm sure is an uphill battle.

May the two people responsible for Tori's death rot in hell!!!!
