Florida examination of human remains continues, no direct link to Heather Elvis found


It's still too soon to say whether or not the skeletal remains found last week in Florida are linked in any way to the Heather Elvis case, according to Florida investigators.

A spokesman for the Volusia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office said Thursday it would be at least another week or two before any results are known.

"The Medical Examiner's Office hasn't concluded its investigation yet," Gary Davidson, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said via email Thursday. "And when they do, the remains may require additional analysis. For that reason, we still have no idea who they belong to and, therefore, haven't ruled anyone in or out as far as a possible ID."

South Carolina lawyers argue for and against gag order in Heather Elvis case

The disappearance of Heather Elvis, 20, in Horry County and the arrests of two suspects for murder led to extensive media coverage, which is why a judge recently placed a gag order on all parties involved in the trial.

Second woman's body found in Florida likely doesn't belong to Heather Elvis...


A body belonging to an 18- to 25-year-old woman was found Friday in a rural Florida county near Orlando, but the discovery is not likely that of Heather Elvis, according to investigators in the Sunshine State.

The body was discovered in an unincorporated area of Clermont, Fla., in Lake County, sparking initial speculation on social media that the woman could be 20-year-old Heather Elvis, who disappeared from the Myrtle Beach area on Dec. 18, 2013.

Motion to reconsider bond for Tammy Moorer filed

nother bond hearing has been requested by a 42-year-old woman charged in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis, according to court records.

Tammy Moorer’s attorney, Greg McCollum, has filed for a reconsideration of bond for the woman, who along with her 38-year-old husband, Sidney Moorer, are each charged with murder, kidnapping, obstruction of justice and two counts of indecent exposure.

Circuit Court Judge Steven John, the administrative judge handling the case, has not set a date for the reconsideration.

A motion for the reconsideration of bond for Sidney Moorer had not been filed as of Friday.

Florida remains Horry County police asked about undergo more testing

Human remains found March 20 in DeLand, Fla. that Horry County police inquired about while investigating the Elvis case have been sent to a forensic specialist for additional testing.

The Volusia County (Fla.) medical examiner’s office has analyzed the remains and issued a preliminary report, but the sheriff’s office there is withholding the findings pending further testing by a human identification specialist at the University of Florida.
