A "dangerous sex offender" who absconded from an open prison is being searched for by police.

Paul Robson, 56, was reported missing from HMP North Sea Camp in Boston, Lincolnshire, at about 07:00 GMT on Sunday.

He is serving a life sentence for attempted rape and indecent assault.

Det Ch Sup Andy Cox said officers were working on "numerous lines of inquiry" in the hunt for Robson and warned people not to approach him.

"He could be anywhere in the country, and we are really keen to hear from the public with potential sightings so we can take this man off our streets," he said.

"Robson is a dangerous sex offender and while he presents a particular danger to women and young children, I believe he can cause real harm to anyone he comes across."

There was another one last week. I have to ask what is going on?

Murderer, 37, serving life sentence is on the run after going missing from Suffolk prison | Daily Mail Online

A convicted murderer is on the run tonight after disappearing from his prison cell, police have warned.

Christopher Mortimer, 37, escaped from Hollesley Bay prison on Saturday morning, where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

The tattooed killer was last seen in the lock-up at around 8am.

Suffolk Police have now launched appeal to track him down after their initial enquiries failed to locate him.

People have been warned not to approach the criminal, but to contact police on 101 if they see him or have information about where he is.

Hollesley Bay, in Woodbridge, is a prison and young offender institution for men aged over 18.

It is rated Category D, meaning it has 'minimum security', and is home to almost 500 inmates housed in nine residential units.

Police said he was arrested in the Woodbridge area on Saturday evening and returned to prison.

Police also offered their thanks to the public for their assistance in helping the force track him down.

It is totally crazy to me that someone who is described as 'a dangerous sex offender who presents a particular danger to women and young children' would be in an establishment where he is given opportunity to escape!

1988: Robson was jailed for 42 months for assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Lancaster. He was in his early twenties at the time.

1990: After an early release, Robson abducted and assaulted an eight-year-old girl in Morecambe, for which he was jailed for eight years.

1995: Robson served just five years. While living in a hostel in Carlisle, Cumbria, he approached two nine-year-old girls on the street. The girls fled and he received a conditional discharge from magistrates after he admitted resisting a police officer and breaching the peace.

Later in 1995 he attacked a 31-year-old woman in Reading, Berkshire, and was jailed for five years in 1996.

2000: Robson broke into a 23-year-old woman's house in Oxford through a cat flap and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint. He received two life sentences and was described by the judge as a 'menace to females'.

Why is this guy in an open prison to begin with?

Four assaults (that he was convicted for, probably more that were not) and he's allowed in an environment that allowed him to escape. Gee. What went wrong there?

Clearly, he was not rehabilitated in any sense.

Manhunt launched after convicted sex offender absconds Lincolnshire prison (planetradio.co.uk)
''He was reported missing around 7 o'clock yesterday morning (13th February).

Anyone who sees him is being advised not to approach him but to call 999.

Robson could be 'anywhere in the country'
Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox said: “We are still working tirelessly to locate Paul Robson and are still working through numerous lines of enquiry. He could be anywhere in the country, and we are really keen to hear from the public with potential sightings so we can take this man off our streets.''

I feel like this guy will commit another assault before he is found going off his past history :( Why he was in an open prison with that rap sheet goodness knows! Really hope he is caught before there's another victim

He was sentenced to a minimum of nine years but has spent 20 years behind bars and only moved to an open prison in February 2021 after five parole hearings.

Police described him as a white male with a bald head, a long goatee beard and of slim build.

He may be wearing a black long-sleeved Berghaus top, a grey 'French' t-shirt, dark bottoms, a dark coloured woollen beanie and a light-grey donkey-style jacket with orange on the shoulder area.

'Open prisons only house prisoners that have been risk-assessed and deemed suitable for open conditions.'

Yet an inspector's report published in June last year said 70 per cent of prisoners were assessed as 'presenting a high risk of harm to others' and more than half were convicted of sex offences.

A spokesman for the Parole Board said: 'The Parole Board refused the release of Paul Robson but recommended a move to an open conditions prison following an oral hearing in February 2021.

'This was a recommendation only and the Secretary of State for Justice considers the advice before making the final decision on whether a prisoner is suitable for open conditions.

'We will only make a recommendation for open conditions if a Parole Board panel is satisfied that the risk to the public has reduced sufficiently to be manageable in an open prison.

'A move to open conditions involves testing the prisoner's readiness for any potential return into the community in future. Prisoners moved to open conditions can be returned to closed conditions if there is concern about their behaviour.'

A dangerous sex offender who fled an open prison may have changed his appearance, police have warned.

Images released this week as officers launched a manhunt for Paul Robson, 56, showed him with a long goatee tied at the end.

Two new photos issued by Lincolnshire Police show him clean-shaven and sporting a different facial hair style.

Robson, who the force described as a "menace to women", walked out of HMP North Sea Camp on Sunday.

''The only pictures of Paul Robson then and now

That’s not the only crime he committed.
He was first jailed in 1998 for assaulting a 12-year-old girl. He was jailed again for eight years after abducting an eight-year-old girl in 1990 and in 1995 he was jailed again for five years for attacking a 31-year-old woman.
Police are right to call him dangerous.''

Police have now shared further descriptions of Robson to help identify him, warning that people should try not to approach or apprehend him. He is described as being 5’8″ tall and speaks with a North East accent, and is believed to habitually wear a baseball cap.

He has an inch-long scar on the right side of his eyebrow. He also has a tattoo on his left hand of a cross, believed to be self-made, with a blue crucifix between the thumb and forefinger.

He has been arrested in Skegness according to Lincs Police Facebook page.
Thanks, I was just thinking it's weird there don't seem to have been any sightings. He didn't get very far then.

It is understood Robson was returned to a closed prison and will not be eligible to apply for parole for at least a further two years.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said Robson would "face an uphill struggle proving he can ever be trusted to move to an open prison again".
