I give the rest of the candy to the first teenager who comes to the door after 9:30 -- to keep myself from eating all of it. If I could get away with it, I'd trick or treat with you, OL!

Oh, we could get away with trick or treating. Pour the goodie pile on the floor and trade. I get the KitKat's and you can have the Musketeer bars. We can fight over the Snickers. :D

Sad. Just my opinion.

Unnecessarily harsh.

Last night was our trick or treating, and if the parents were dressed up along with the kids, we often gave them candy, as well, hehe.

My son had friends who were 5'10 and they were only 12. So it makes it hard to tell by height, but as long as you don't feel like a fool I guess any age is o.k. After 14 or 15 I think that a party would be the best thing for the older ones.

I hope his friends weren't turned away for being too big. :( My son dressed up in costume at 14 or 15 to take his little sister (6 years old) around the neighborhood. He's a good big brother. :D

I love Halloween and dressing up in a costume and I am 50, but still a kid at heart.

When my kids turned 13, I no longer allowed them to trick or treat. So I hosted a Halloween party and their friends came over and we did a 'haunted yard'! They had more fun doing that than trick or treating any time!!!! And the haunted yard was better than most haunted houses one pays money to enter!

We closed it up at 9 pm and then they all piled into my van and we visited the homes of the kids parents and homes of their bf's and gf's. The kids loved it and it allowed me to be all up in their business to make sure they stayed out of trouble, LOL!

They finally pulled a trick on me when they all got drivers liscenses and no longer needed me as their driver. They managed to toilet paper my yard without getting caught! Hahaha! I loved it! I like to think they missed having me along......

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I have heard that same thing numerous times, that the kids love setting up a haunted yard and passing out candy in costume FAR more than trick or treating.

I was pretty young when I stopped TOT mainly because my parents both usually worked Halloween. But I know a couple of Halloweens as teens we did make a point of going to the house that had homemade popcorn balls, sometimes we'd go through twice.

I'm dressing up tonight for a party. And if a 70-year-old wants to dress up and trick or treat, then GO FOR IT! Ignore anyone who says otherwise; what do they know?

I would give anyone candy regardless of age if they walked up and politely said "Trick or Treat". Halloween is meant to be fun! My parents brought their shot glasses along when they took us out at night!

Depends on where you live, the area and what the people think.

I don't go in for the ban though. Too much intervention is not good.

Let people enjoy the Halloween spirit at any age and just don't respond to the older kids if you don't want to.

Happy Boo Day
Goz

Happy Boo Day to you too.

My son turned 13 in July and is going T-T'ing. He's going to be Billy Ray Cyrus in the early days (Mullett and all). I say as long as the kids are out for a good time, stay out of trouble, and let the little kids go first, then I'm all for it. I don't mind giving candy to older kids.

I think a ban is ridiculous. Just more big brother who dictates what we can and cannot do. Blech.

Hugs,

Mel

Depends on where the trick-or-treating is done. When I was in college, everyone dressed up and trick-or-treated through the dorms!

bbm~

This is what I always went by...My children trick or treated into their early teens and are 25 & 34 now. Halloween was one of their favorite holidays and I had no problem with that as long as the "dressing up" was part of the fun..It's so hard to judge age for me anymore and to be honest I don't care as long as they are dressing up and actually trick or treating..

That said.. I don't ever open the door and leave my light off if I am by myself at home on Halloween because you NEVER know who is behind that mask...and one thing that DOES irritate me is opening the door to a 5'5" person that has made no attempt at some kind of costume and sticks a bag in my face for candy! I just think if you're going to do it..really do it...(you can always throw together some kind of costume) or don't do it at all..jmho..

I don't care how old they are as long as they are dressed up. When 15 year old boys show up with maybe just a mask but basically in street clothes i get annoyed.

Candy really isn't good for you, an obvious point. I really cannot understand why an adult would want to go door-to-door to beg for it.

Many teens aren't nice. They don't want to chat or show off a costume; they just want free candy. For little kids it's a big deal, and I certainly think they should trick or treat.

I asked my adult college educated sons if they would trick or treat. Honestly, they thought I was joking when I mentioned adults going house to house. They said they would only give candy to kids, then asked why the adults weren't home giving out candy themselves. Further, they suggested if adults wanted to participate, why not set up a yard display and integrate themselves into in as a ghost, etc. This, too, is my opinion.

The adults are usually with the younger kids, as escorts. I doubt many would go trick or treating by themselves. :P

I think if you're a kid, no matter what age, if you are out having fun and not causing mischief, then go for it!!! Jeez, if I could trick or treat tonight I would. My daughter is 14 and going out with friends....as long as they are having fun, gosh, i don't care........I'm not a big Halloween person, I don't go all out decorating for it. We live in an area where we don't get alot of trick or treaters which I'm sad about. I just love seeing the little kids all dressed up.......so sweet!!!!

When KK was younger, I would have to take her to a development in the township so she could trick or treat, where there were sidewalks, etc. I used to love going to the homes where the parents were out in the driveway with a fire going and enjoying the evening...I actually wish I were going out tonight with KK :-)

Happy Halloween everyone!!!!!

I certainly can understand a parent accompanying kids, but I don't get parents begging for candy, too.

Trick or treat is tonight. We always have a blow out crowd. (because of where we live and the demographics)

We always run out of candy quickly no matter how much I purchase.

I can't wait to see the theme's of costumes the lil' ones have this year. :)

We had nine trick-or-treaters last night -- and that's counting my two!!!!!!!!!! The last two were teen girls :D

I have always love, love, LOVED Halloween. But my kids are now grown and the past few years, we've had car/van/truck loads of kids WHO DON'T LIVE IN OUR HOOD dropped off to trick or treat. I hate that and stopped giving candy years ago. That's NOT how it's supposed to work!!!

Not one TOT and a whole bag of mini snickers...what is a girl to do:woohoo:

I don't care how old trick or treaters are. If one is too afraid to open the door just don't turn the light on. I could care less if they were all young adults, as long as they have a costume.

I get annoyed more at the people who don't adhere to the trick or treat hours. I think ending at 7pm is a bit lame and too early, so I don't mind late stragglers before 8 but someone was out at 9 this evening and our trick or treat ended at 7! (btw the ONLY late stragglers where the one group I saw at 9pm - and our trick or treat started at 2)

I'm the same way...I ALWAYS buy too much candy and as the night wears on I start to STRESS. I'm grateful for the teens who straggle in after 9, I give out candy by the fistfuls at that point. And even the more obnoxious teens suddenly become excited 5 year olds again when they feel a pound of candy hit their bag lol.

Doesn't bother me a bit! Take it allllllllllllllll kids!!!

Edited to add: I also love giving the ones dressed like skanks a hard time. For example I had one, fourteen or fifteen show up in a stripper-looking girlscout outfit with a badge in that said "sex scout". I read it outloud REALLY loud and said, "really?" She turned about a hundred shades of red.
