lol I work at a summer program, we have a field trip tomorrow. Our ratio is what it is required to be, 1 adult to 15 students. Kindergarten to 5th graders. There is no way our program would ever pay enough staff to do 1 adult to 3 or 4 kids!!! School fieldtrips with teachers and some parent volunteers perhaps, but paid workers never.
Wow, that's crazy! These kids may be a bit younger, and you are talking about a school trip which is very different. Still, we have parents lining up to attend trips in our schools. Volunteers must meet qualifications and have criminal background checks as well.

On part of the second route you gave as an example is a Tier 3 sex offender nearby (convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse) and who also has mutual friends with the Tibbetts. How thoroughly do the police question these felons? I'd imagine he was grilled, but I know some of them fantasize about this stuff over and over again for ages, thinking of every way to carry these activities out and still evade detection.

There are two guys on the registry anywhere near her route, both committed their offenses when they were 13.

The information in that article from July 30 is speculation related to something on her computer. Police have since updated the information as follows:

"Mollie Tibbetts was last seen jogging in Brooklyn, Iowa in the evening hours. There have been no credible sightings of, or communications with, Mollie since that time."

https://findingmollie.iowa.gov/

This means that Mollie was not communicating through her online course after she went jogging. Therefore, there is no information or evidence to support the claim that Mollie returned home after she went jogging.

Especially Tier 3 offenders. They require quarterly check-ins because of their capacity for violence (like the guy in question) and their high risk for becoming a repeat offender.
Exactly. They can learn new behavior (not reoffending) but their sex drive doesn’t diminish until they age out of it (some never do). They can’t be rehabilitated, which is why LE always looks at them early on in an investigation like this.

I work at an after school (and summer) program, so parents are putting their kids there while they are working. They aren't going to go on a field trip and miss work bc if they aren't working, they wouldn't put their kids in care! Actual school field trips, the ones parents volunteer to go on, have much better ratios. But child care ratios are usually maxed out bc people generally won't pay for staff that isn't legally required, and parents don't go on the trips.

Although the type of data available depends on the device (a fitness tracker, iPad, iPhone, etc.), Stedman said law enforcement officials often look for GPS, heart rate, steps, and activity spikes. They don’t always need the device to sync to a computer to be able to pull data, he noted, which could be helpful in locating those who go missing, as in Mollie Tibbetts case.

Yes, it also depends on the APP, there are quite a few out there.

Maybe it's helpful to look back over some things from the beginning with fresh eyes. Some things reported and claimed early on were contradictory, but I think there is some level of truth in all of it.

July 18:
- The times 5:30pm, 7:30pm, and 10:00pm come up over and over again, so these times are important. For the 5:30pm time, there are some reports that this is when her brother dropped her off at the house, but there are also neighbors who initially said they saw her jogging already at this time (FM FB page). At 7:30pm, there are also sightings of her jogging, and this is around the time she texted with her mom. Initially, there were reports that she started jogging at 10pm, then there were reports that this is when the BF opened the SC message. This is also the time some reports associate with her doing homework and others claim it was the last cell phone ping. Either way, 5:30pm, 7:30pm, and 10:00pm are key times, which probably explain why they are looking for people who saw things between 5pm and 10pm.

July 19:
- Some reports have her wearing a red shirt, jean shorts, and sandals. Some reports have her wearing running gear. Some reports say she could be wearing either. (I think the important question here is what made them initially think she was wearing a different outfit.)
- There is also a mention on the Finding Mollie FB page that Mollie's aunt claimed that they found her headphones and water bottle at the house, so the assumption is that she made it home after the run. This was posted by a local who was at the fire department helping out with the searches. (Now, this may be inaccurate for a number of reasons, but it could explain why the searches focused mostly on the field between the BF's house and her mom's house.)

July 20:
- Pictures are posted on the FM FB page by locals of a K-9 unit searching 385th, which is the gravel road next to the BF's house. (This road is one of the red dots on the new police map.)
- People on the FM FB page start asking about the FitBit data. There are conversations in the comments between family members and locals about passing this info on to the cops. At one point, a family member states that the cops are now working on getting access to the FitBit info.
- Locals who have been conducting and assisting with the search parties are told by the police that there will be no more searches as law enforcement is now pursuing a new direction. (Is it possible that they either got access to the FitBit info that fast, or maybe someone in her inner circle knew her password and was able to access it on a laptop, and this information told them something that caused them to cease looking in Brooklyn?)

July 21:
- DCI (Division of Criminal Investigation) gets involved in the case.
- The family says the day was spent mostly on the tech front (investigating social media, computers, etc.) as per their update on the FM FB page.
- Family and friends hold a candlelight prayer vigil.

July 22:
- Posters/fliers are shared on the FM FB page that indicate a red shirt that belongs to Mollie is missing.

July 23:
- FBI gets involved.
- The discussion about her glasses/contacts being left in the house starts popping up on the FB page and in some MSM news articles.

July 25:
- Mollie's mom gives an interview where she says they are "pretty sure" she made it home after her run.

July 26:
- DCI clarifies the timeline by saying that the brother dropped Mollie off at 5:30pm, but then they go on to say that she either went for a run at 7:30pm or 8:00pm, and they believe she made it home safely. (It is important to point out that a neighbor who lives just a couple of houses down the street from the BF told news outlets that when the police questioned him about whether or not he saw Mollie jog past his house, they told him that they had proof she made it home safely after the run.)
- LE searches the pig farm.

July 27:
- Mollie's mom gives another interview where she says they were told one FBI agent would come out to help, but that it ended up being 15, and they were then told to expect even more.
- News reports that two farms are searched, one with a K-9 unit.
- DCI states that they are extremely confident in the digital footprint they have uncovered.

July 30:
- Certain members of Mollie's family claim to still believe that she made it back to the house because they were told that there is evidence she was doing homework on her laptop later that evening.

August 2:
- A red shirt is found near the pig farm that was searched earlier.

August 3:
- Mollie's mom gives an interview where she says that she no longer believes Mollie made it back to the house because the dogs were in the basement. She also says that all of the red shirts are accounted for and that the running clothes are still missing. (What happened that changed her mind?)

However, police did say that they do not believe the abductor is from the Brooklyn community.
He could still be a sex offender from outside the community, and LE would be looking at offenders within a particular radius of Brooklyn. I’m not saying the perp is a sex offender, just that they would cover their bases by interviewing them.

My feeling is that LE finds it credible, as they have included that sighting within the time frame.

Not exactly. Police have included the car wash across the street from the 2nd str. witness.

The locations on the FBI map may be related to points related to Mollie, points related to the abductor, or points where they believe Mollie was with the abductor.

The car wash location may be related to the abductor, and perhaps it is coincidental that a witness on the street saw Mollie running West towards Caseys food store on the same street.

For reference purposes, here's what has been reported about Mollie doing homework after her run. One can form their own opinion. If you choose to use it to form a theory.

"Kim Calderwood, her aunt, told ABC News. "The run happened and then she was at the house as far as we know. I don't think she would've run in the dark."

"Family members told KCCI on Saturday that evidence shows she was doing homework on her computer late in the evening on July 18. Authorities declined to release a specific time, saying it could hinder the investigation."

"BROOKLYN, Iowa (KMTV) -- The older brother of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts says investigators told him evidence shows she was doing homework on her computer last Wednesday evening."

"She had been dog-sitting at her boyfriend’s house — which he shares with his brother and the brother’s fiancée, according to Fox News — and after her run, she returned to the home to do homework, police have said."

"Neighbor Dave Collum, a retired maintenance director for the school district, said he was interviewed by investigators who told him that data from Tibbetts' Fitbit showed she jogged past his home that evening and made it home from the run safely. He said investigators told him she was doing homework on her computer later that evening."

"According to Fox News, Tibbetts had been dog sitting at her boyfriend’s house and after her run, she returned to the home to do homework, policesay. But at some point, she vanished. The FBI is investigating foul play."

"Tibbetts was last seen jogging through her 1,400-person town of Brooklyn, Iowa, on July 18, but local reports say she’s believed to have made it home safely after her run, and was using her computer to do homework later in the night."

I totally believe him. He doesn’t know Mollie and had no particular reason to remember details about somebody he regulary sees jogging on his street.

I believe him, too. I just don't know that I'm convinced that he actually saw her that night or if he was just recalling that he saw her and assumed it was that night.
