A large quantity of drugs was discovered overnight aboard the trawler Polar Nanoq from Greenland, which is docked in Hafnarfjörður harbor.

A crew member was arrested and questioned in relation to the drugs. He is the fourth crew member of Polar Nanoq to be arrested, but it’s not known whether he is connected to the missing girl’s case. Police would not reveal whether the fourth crew member is still being held by police.

This is what our constitution says. I've never heard of human rights violations of foreigners that have been arrested and tried here, something that has happened on numerous occasions, mainly for drug and violent offences.

I don't know if that's what you were referring to though, my knowledge of English fails me the more tired I get. :blushing:

That is a perfect answer. Thank you.

Some sort of data has been sent overseas for analysis. Don't know if it's DNA or something else. Police are working on tracing the movements of the car from security tapes they have received. The phones of the men in custody are being looked at and they're looking into the locations they pinged at.

It's 3 am so I am gonna try to sleep now. Praying for a speedy resolution to this case and the safe return of Birna. :please:

I'm so maddened that (some) men continue to take advantage of inebriated women. Women, don't let your guard down. Even in a place where you think you are safe, s*** happens. Sadly, I don't think this will end well.

Thinking of Birna's family and friends today. <3

Can I say BRAVO to the media outlets in Iceland? In the US, it's always so hard to find information in MSM, but MSM in Iceland is always on top of it!

__

Anyway, will be posting updates since Iceland MSM has an update:

The two men spent the night at the Reykjavík police station, to allow police officers easy access to them. They will be transferred to Litla Hraun prison tonight. The two suspects are Greenlanders and crew members of the trawler Polar Nanoq. Police officers have confiscated their cell phones and are now analyzing their phone records.

After interrogating the third man who was arrested in connection with Birna’s disappearance, police decided not to request custody of him. He was released yesterday and is no longer a suspect.

A fourth man, also a crew member of Polar Nanoq, will be in police custody until Monday, following the discovery of more than 20 kg (44 lbs.) of cannabis onboard the trawler. He is not a suspect in the case of the missing girl.

http://icelandreview.com/news/2017/01/20/major-search-planned-tomorrow
The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police department has sent a request to every regional management of rescue groups in Iceland, asking for volunteers to participate in a major search for Birna Brjánsdóttir, scheduled for tomorrow, Vísir reports. Birna has been missing since Saturday morning. Chief Superintendent Ásgeir Þór Ásgeirsson calls it one of the most extensive searches conducted in Iceland in years.

“Today, we have people ready to react if new tips come in, but the main project of today is planning an extensive search in the southwest corner of the country, which will be conducted over the weekend.”

I've been keeping up with this story around the clock for a week now, I'm so greatful for the Internet!
my family are so sick by what has happened to Birna & my heart goes out to Silla & Brian!
Silla my Friend, PLEASE don't give up hope!!!!!
Birna is in my prayers everyday!
love you all 💞

I am going only from a weak memory from being in Iceland years ago.

I seems like there was one main highway from the airport to R( don't know how to spell it). The names of cross streets were sooooooooooooo long.

Would there be more cameras along streets to see where this white car is from?

Cool link, imo.

The Icelandic Coast Guard has offered the police to take advantage of its practice flight today. The Coast Guard helicopter will, therefore, search Reykjanes peninsula this afternoon.

Several hundred rescue workers are expected to participate in tomorrow’s search. Every available search option will be used. “What we’re focusing on this weekend is a search on land. There are dogs, four wheelers [ATVs], cars and hikers, possibly a helicopter and such; drones, too. It’s substantial; it’s for sure the largest search conducted in recent years.”

The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police department is asking drivers whose cars are equipped with cameras for assistance in the investigation.

The goal of the request is to determine the location of a red Kia Rio between the hours of 7 am and 11:30 am Saturday, January 14.

Drivers, who during that time frame traveled in Southwest Iceland, that is, in an area including the capital area, Reykjanes peninsula, or as far east as Selfoss, or as far north as Borgarfjörður, are asked to review the footage in their vehicles for any sign of a red Kia Rio.

A number of drivers, not least professional ones, are known to possess such video cameras.

Greenland has a very high rape rate (though it mostly occurs among people who know each other): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/17655066/

I find that interesting in the context of this case, especially given that Iceland's crime rates are so low.

Sadly, I think a sexual motive and bad outcome are very likely in this case.

How very sad for this young lady.
The monsters among us.

Have been closely following ever since my Icelandic friend told me. I was in Iceland in September. Police confirm they have found birnas blood in the red car. It is now a murder enquiry. So sad. Poor girl. I hope they find her body for her loved ones.
