There are many commenting that the actions or behaviors of these kids seems 'strange' to them and speculating on dark scenarios based on their unfamiliarity with those actions or behaviors. In my experience and in the experiences of many other posters, all these kids were behaving exactly as US college students do on a Saturday night in 2022. There was nothing nefarious or odd. The four victims and their roommates were out on a Saturday night and came home right about the time bars were closing - 1:45. They were out on the town for hours according to the times stated by LE, bar crawling, drinking, getting food post-bar crawl so you can soak up the alcohol you drank, catching a ride home with someone, going to frat parties or dances; roommates trying to sleep and maybe using earbuds to block out noisy roomies, locking their doors so someone visiting doesn't barge in and wake them up, sleeping in late after a night out, leaving a door open for someone without a key; drunk-dialing an ex over and over. All of the above are normal! They were college kids on a Saturday night. The end of that night took a terrible and dark turn. That's what IS abnormal. Up until they were killed, everything was normal. moo

In one of the interviews with Kaylee's mom and family, her mom stated that if they don't have an arrest the killer would show up at the funeral.

I respectfully & wholeheartedly disagree with this sentiment/opinion. Given the extreme amount of attention this case has gotten & is continuing to get, the killer/killers would be an idiot to show up at the funeral(s). This is one of the top news stories at this time. The scrutiny the case is getting is overwhelming. I believe the killer/killers is/are long gone from that area. To go to the funeral(s) would be foolishly inviting unwanted attention on/to themselves.

I still think it's relevant that Kaylee was only in town that night (I think I read that toward the beginning of the case, but can't find now where I saw that - any sources) if this is a targeted crime (as LE keeps reiterating)

There was a rabbit found dead with ears cut off about 3 miles away. Also a dog was fatally skinned alive 3 miles away just a couple weeks prior to the murders, with a sharp knife.

My opinion is that these are related because what are the chances of 2 sickos in close proximity/timing?

This is why crimes against animals need to be a higher priority. Psychos get their start somewhere. It’s a precursor of what’s to come. Whether or not it’s related to this crime, I don’t know. However left unsolved, it will be related to another crime.

None of us knows how we would react in a situation unless we have been in it.It's easy to judge.
That's easy to say but it is very important for young people reading this thread to know that if your friend is having a medical emergency, the right answer is to call for medical attention immediately. It's not being judgmental, it is objectively the right thing to do. Calling friends, siblings, classmates before 911 is the wrong decision. We all make wrong decisions but it is important to learn from them going forward.

Pretending like "who could have known?" about calling 911 when someone is unconscious is being disingenuous.

I'm not hugely older than the victims and surviving room mates. In this specific situation (or what we know of it), I would definitely message or call friends before I would LE. I can't tell you why, but I know I would. I wouldn't take photos, but I would reach out to them as a primary point of contact, reassurance and comfort.

My heart goes out to them and the victims loved ones. And also to the dog. Who knows what he witnessed or experienced that night, but the loss of a close human and the consequent intense human emotions must be very hard on him as well.
Do we know what happened to the dog? Is he alive? Was he killed?
(I likely just missed that information.)

My apologies if this has been discussed.

When I watched the presser over the weekend, LE listed all the active participants in the case. He mentioned two FBI employees in West VA.

Are they specialists that happen to live in WV?

Are they agents that are investigating in WV?

Is there a WV connection to a suspect?

Just my thoughts.

Agreed... literally wanted to vomit when I read that story. I'm wondering if Kaylee had made plans to visit before that occurred. Like if the killer was "planning" or "practicing" (ugh), did they know the intended target and when/where they would be around??
Can you refer me to the story you are talking about? I’m way behind due to having to take a break for my daughter’s birthday yesterday, so I missed a lot.

I’m assuming the killer locked the doors to those rooms and closed them before he left. That’s why the surviving girls would have knocked on the door and not gotten an answer and may be called friends. But what I don’t understand is how could there not be apparent signs of blood outside the room and in the house? How could there not be, assuming the doors were locked and closed, blood on the door knob, foot prints on the floor, on and on? Did the killer clean up and shower and change clothes before he left? And if so, that certainly lends to premeditation and planning.
To me, the locked door scenario makes the most sense. It would explain why 911 wasn’t called immediately. Also why the police were the first on the scene instead of EMT.

I’m aware that there were five roommates in a six bedroom house, and it was soon to be four. I just wonder how long it had been that way, it would all add to my understanding of the dynamics.

I’m sure it’s been discussed and apologies in advance, were all three girls in the same sorority? Were all five? I’m trying to get how Greek life at UI was. Was this an off campus essentially sorority house or just a group renting together? Maybe college rentals are different now, post pandemic. The girls seemed to be popular, and I am surprised that there was a spare bedroom that someone didn’t want to rent. Maybe the girls were all financially able to split the rent without an additional person. It has been said that there were a lot of parties-friend parties, or off campus sorority parties?

At my kid’s school, the off campus frat houses were party central because the fraternity could not be punished for parties that were not at the true fraternity house. Sure, they were subject to the town’s laws. The on campus fraternity house was where the philanthropic events were scheduled, and the craziness was off site. But my kid’s school was heavily into Greek life.

I just want to understand why there were more bedrooms than people, when I have rarely seen it that way. I assume it had nothing to do with what happened here, but it may help me understand their interpersonal relationships.
I think in most university towns, there are apartments and houses rented out this way by the landlord/property managers. If the total cost of the rent would be $1800/month, each room is rented separately for $300/person. Once the semester begins, the students are all settled in and under lease at their locations, so if the room wasn't taken by then, the landlord just keeps it locked and unused, since there aren't many students left searching for lodging. Alternately, if the 5 roomies want a spare bedroom, they can each pay an extra $60 a month for that privilege. I had wondered if either or both of those 2 empty rooms was being advertised for rent and whether the property manager might have unwittingly given our unsub a tour of the place, if he posed as a potential renter. Just my random thoughts.

Re “targeted” …. could it be that the victims’ house was easier to enter than others nearby? I haven’t been able to sort out if it was unlocked or not…. but if so, it could be that all other houses in the immediate area had their doors locked & that was what made the difference… JMO

No idea if this could fit! but in my college town there was a burglar creeping in on people for a while, & LE kept telling the public to lock their doors & windows. Apparently that was the common denominator with his victims - he’d also tried to enter a number of houses but gone away when the door or window had even the flimsiest lock holding it closed IMO
Totally. Technically every murder victim in history was “targeted.” Even if someone randomly shoots into a crowd, the crowd was targeted over any other crowd that wasn’t shot into.
I think it’s possible they are using this term very loosely to keep the town/university from panicking.

Wow, this case is getting 1000 posts a day. I am prepared for my post to be immediately buried by a hundred random new posts.

Kaylee‘s parents seem to have given insight into why they were calling Jack 10 times late at night. This is all from 11/20 interview.

It seems they dated for a years, but Kaylee was “being a brat” by breaking up with him to take a break. But it sounds like she was begging him to Respond and come over the weekend she was in town.

The implication that he wasn’t responding and she was begging sounds like he was angry at her. Of course, doesn’t mean angry enough to Brutally slaughter a house full of people. But Her “last messages” to him i.e. text messages, maybe preceeded the 10 phone calls.

Also, I think it’s weird that the parents say they were going to get married. And have children. They were broken up college students and Kaylee was moving 1000 miles away to start a new life in Texas. Why was the mom talking about they were going to have children together some day?

From 11/20 interview
Mom - Jack was Kaylee's boyfriend for many years. They just recently broke up. There is no animosity at all. It was a break up on Kaylee's point. It was not... they still talked every single day. Kaylee just thought that she needed a little break. They were on the mends of getting back together. Kaylee talked to Jack the whole time she was here for that week and a half.

Dad
- One of her messages, one of her last messages - she reached out to Jack and said 'Jack, get back to me' and then she goes 'we share a dog together', which they did, she's like 'you need to reach out to me', so..

Mom - 'Please come over'. She was wanting Jack to come over there. Jack is not.. they're wasting their time with Jack and Jack is just as distraught as we are.
"They are wasting their time."

Well, I am going to be blunt here. One thing that always concerns me in high profile cases, and I am in no way speculating on guilt or innocence here, but my concern is when families circle the wagons around other family members or friends/loved ones/spouses of the victims. Too often we have seen where that very person later becomes the suspect or otherwise involved. Again, this isn't about J. It's only about the absolute certainty that is expressed in this interview.

It's human nature. I would almost certainly do that same. Because, bottomline, who wants to think someone they know might be capable of unspeakable depravity. But everyone is a suspect until ruled out otherwise so nothing is a waste of time. IMO/MOO.

Good morning everyone. The more I think about the 911 call, the more I don't think it should be released. There is probably a lot relayed that needs to be kept for the investigation and to vet suspect interviews. There might be descriptors of the body, where it was, it's position, etc. Things only the killer would know. Imo.
I agree. Also, the people on the call could be hysterical, visibly upset, describing a gruesome scene. Can you imagine the headlines some “news” outlets would make of the call? It’s kind of like police not releasing crime scene photos - that’s just fodder for clickbait and dehumanizing the victims. I’m guessing eventually it will be released, but I’m glad they haven’t yet. Plus, as you say, there could be very valuable info on it.
