Trial by Media (TV series) - Wikipedia
@mickey2942
Interesting series on Netflix, that examines the effect of media scrutiny and slant on trials. This is worth watching.

There has been extensive media coverage of this case, investigation, and will continue. I wonder if this will affect the outcome.
yessss. as a law student this got me super hyped up to try my first case. I'm from Michigan and Fieger is notorious shady. Watching that man passionately make his arguments, knowing full well it wasnt how the law should be applied, was truly a work of art. He failed to meet the legal. standard and still got the W. What a lawyer. (I mean it was obvious shady and completely unprofessional but I gotta admire his total disregard for the law when making his case)

That being said in this case I feel like the trial will be a circus. There are just so many players involved and everyone knows everyone. And the news is over reporting everything. From a legal perspective I havent found anything that deviates too wildly from the actual merits for the claims, but its early and 2020 so anything could happen. Im interested to see how it plays out as the trial gets closer

I doubt the bat was even used to create his fake injury. My daughter is a softball player and a few years ago, she was taking light practice swings with a mini wooden bat (softball is played with aluminum or composite bats) and accidentally caught my son in the forehead at the end of her swing. This was not a hard swing at all and it was a small bat like the ones you sometimes see given away at MLB games. The goose egg that instantly formed was huge and purple. There is NO way ACs injury came from a full size aluminum bat swung by a baseball player or anyone for that matter. And just for reference, my daughter is the same age as Tylee and built like her, so if Tylee's bat was proper size for her height and build, her bat would have done some SERIOUS damage.

Moo, but also from extensive bat experience.
Great point. But unless they knew in advance the cops were not going to investigate you’d think they’d at least make sure some of Alex’s blood was on the bat.

I wonder if LE bothered to take the bat as evidence and check it for blood and fingerprints. Or did that nice policeman who mopped the blood off the floor clean the bat too?

Having 60 in their possession would imply to me they were both of the above and they are probably still scratching their head wondering went wrong.

Good thought -- to me, it implies that they were using different phones to contact different people who were associated with their cult activities--as some sort of precaution against anyone tracking all of them down.
It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the police find on those phones.

Or, perhaps they had something big planned and they hadn't used them yet. When I think of people who have no qualms about killing their spouses and children, I think of people who are capable of committing much larger crimes--perhaps even on a terrorist level--to bring about their planned and destined "doomsday."

A phone for every follower couple?

Who else knew where the pet cemetery was to even bury someone within those confines?

And were the dog and cat found in another area of the pet cemetary, or on top/with TR's remains?

Tammy and Chad’s children, I would bet. There also was a statue of a dog there as well designating it as such. I believe an animal’s remains were found near Tylee.

I just can’t fathom why Chad thought to bury the kids there. I heard the FBI scanned the area from the air and was able to determine areas of more density which in turn led to discovery of the bodies. Unless he really believed that LE would NOT think to search his land because in Chad’s mind it would be too obvious. More irrational thinking on CD’s part.

Makes me think of the YouTube attorney Scott R’s “dumb criminal of the week” feature.

And Tammy was still alive then! What the heck was he thinking?

@salberg7 yes THANK YOU. this makes 0 sense to me. Its such a HUGE risk to take with seemingly little benefit. How bold to pull that off with your Tammy right inside

No one needs all of those burner phones. Just download "Google Voice" to a smartphone and have as many "ghost" phone numbers you want. With voice mail. I have several I use for work.

I bet Google knows and would have no problem tracing those numbers to you. Nothing is anonymous on the World Wide Web, especially using Google, which I myself feel is getting too big for their britches as far as user privacy.

Where did you read about the FBI scanning the area from the air? The biggest clue were Alex's phone pings in specific locations in Chad's backyard.

So, Prior's plan is that LVD is crazy and CD is a doofus? CD was just a victim of LVD? Yes. And his dear wife Tammy, just happened to die.

I SO want the prosecution to present evidence that CD had been cheating on TD for years with LVD. Bring on the conspiracy.[/

When did CD & LV meet? Fall 2017 or 2018? I wonder how long after their meeting they began to sleep together? When did MG see them smooching in the track?

Your statement re: Prior’s strategy may be absolutely correct. Imo

That was stated during the FBI agent’s testimony during CD’s preliminary hearing when Prior asked him how the FBI determined to search that area. Can’t remember the agents name but he was the field supervisor that day when they discovered the kids. You can find it on East Idaho News on YouTube. The agent with the short dark slightly greying hair. The one Mr Prior objected to the agents description of JJ several times as Prior felt the agent was using too many words to describe just how sad finding a 7 year old wrapped in garbage bags and duct tape is.

I agree that they were probably for different people which only adds to the value of finding them. Regardless, you don't hold on to them. (I'm glad that they did)

I'm very interested to see what history and data they can extract from them. Having the physical device is absolutely huge. That is assuming they weren't all unused but my money is on they weren't new.

Think about where we'd be without TD physical device. They would have had no way of seeing the text about the raccoon.

I rewatched the beginning of the cross-examination and special agent Daniels responded to Chad's attorney that he did not designate the pet cemetery area from any aerial imagery but by visual observation from the ground.

I believe he stated that satellite information was obtained to pinpoint where to search on Chad’s 3-4 acres. I’ll rewatch the entire testimony later but it was in response to a question by Mr Prior, I believe. I’ll take my lumps if I was wrong.

I wonder if Alex's pings alone would have been enough to obtain a search warrant. Using cadaver dogs on the property quickly confirmed suspicion. Comparing satellite imagery before/after the dates in question could also help (if such images existed). Disturbed ground in the pet cemetery area is clearly visible on the one image taken on September 9.

The only satellite photo that I'm aware of was obtained by news media and shows disturbed ground just hours after Tylee was buried on September 9.

I really wonder if Tylee's death was premeditated or happened due to something that occurred between LVD and Tylee.

Has the actual cause of death of Tylee been released yet?

I think Tylee's COD will be hard to determine. IMO both deaths were premeditated because JJ told the neigbor that he and his sister were going to visit grandma. It could have been Lori's way of excusing the children's absence in advance. Lori also told MG that JJ was in the way. Tylee would not have allowed something to happen to him.

All MOO

Yes, agree the focus was on firepit and aerial was focused on firepit. That was their priority even before they set foot on the property... until they got the text message information.

Go to ~13:20 here and he talks about satellite imagery and his experience (FBI special agent/hottie Steve Daniels).

"Before we even set foot on the property, this is the firepit area, so from satellite imagery, similar to what this image is..... we could tell there was a fire pit on the property. Based on my experience we knew even before we even set foot on the property we could potentially find evidence in the firepit. So prior to even arriving I had already...."

and only after they arrived (with satellite and text) they had to question "where is the pet cemetery"

ETA: Changed the word "would" to "could" after relistening and attempting to translate exactly as the meanings of would and could are very different MOO
