Details of Disappearance
Krystyn disappeared from Boise, Idaho on October 14, 1994. Authorities believe she left of her own accord.

Prior to her disappearance, Krystyn had been seeing Charles "Corey" Castro, who was ten years older than her. He was reportedly married, and abusive to Krystyn. He was one of the last people known to have seen Krystyn prior to her disappearance. Castro is now listed on the sex offender registry; after Krysten went missing, he was convicted of sexually abusing his new girlfriend's child.

Krystyn is still classified as a runaway and her case remains unsolved.

BOISE, Idaho — As Kim Bosse looks through a family photo album filled with pictures of her daughter, Krystyn Rae Dunlap-Bosse, she reflects on memories they shared together.

"She was a hoot, she was always a hoot," Bosse said. "You could expect the unexpected from her. She didn't play by the rules."

Bosse and her other two children, Crystal Fuhriman and Daniel Bosse, sat on her couch in her Garden Valley home Wednesday afternoon sharing stories of Krystyn. They called her a jokester, kind-hearted, loving and - in her later years - a rebel.
"But she was a really good person," Kim Bosse added. "Good to her friends, good to her family."

Bosse and her family have not seen or heard from Krystyn in more than 27 years.

This year, in the summer of 2021 BPD detectives again met with Krysten’s mother Kim to see what could be done further on this case. Kim, her family, and BPD, have unfortunately come to the conclusion that Krysten is likely no longer a runaway, or missing person, and that Krystyn is likely deceased.

Details from the investigation lead current Boise Police detectives to believe foul play was likely involved in her disappearance. Although she was officially reported missing by Kim in Oct. of 1994, BPD had conflicting reports from friends, acquaintances, and people she was living with, saying they contact with Krystyn as late as mid December of 1994.

Boise Police strongly believe someone knows what happened to Krystyn. We urge those people to come forward to police and contact Crime Stoppers: Leave a web tip at 343COPS.Com, use the new FREE app, P3!, or call 208-343-COPS(2677). You can remain anonymous and you can earn a reward of up to $1000.00 if your tip leads to a felony arrest! In partnership with Krystyn’s family, BPD wanted to remind the community about her. We are still looking for her and want to bring justice to Krystyn and her family.

Vigil for longtime missing woman Krystyn Dunlap-Bosse to be held on Monday

Krystyn Rae Dunlap-Bosse’s missing person poster shows what she looked like when she went missing and at an age-progressed 44.

The vigil, according to an invitation received by the Idaho Press, will be held on Dunlap-Bosse’s birthday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. at the Agricultural Pavilion at Julia Davis Park in Boise. The vigil is open to the public.

Dunlap-Bosse’s family told the Idaho Press they believe she is likely deceased.

“We just hope someone feels safe enough to come forward now and tell us where she is,” Krystyn’s mother, Kim Bosse said.

The family of Krystyn Rae Dunlap-Bosse will celebrate her 45th birthday with a vigil Monday, after more than 27 years from when she went missing.

"If she were home I'd bake her the biggest cake and put whatever she wanted on it," said Krystyn's Mother Kim Bosse told KTVB.

Bosse said each year she and her family celebrate Krystyn's birthday and each year since she disappeared it doesn't get any easier. Monday will be the first time Krystyn's family is holding a vigil for her.

She's been missing since Oct. 16, 1994. She was 17 years old at the time.

"She just was a genuine person, she was nice, very nice. smart, very smart, very funny, happy go lucky, great to be around," said Daniel Warren Bosse, Dunlap's half-brother. "Always up for an adventure. Be silly and goof off, a really down-to-earth type of person."

"Kim, her family, and BPD, have unfortunately come to the conclusion that Krysten is likely no longer a runaway or missing person, and that Krystyn is likely deceased," Boise Police said earlier this month.

Monday would have been her 45th birthday.

'Krystyn will not be forgotten': Family of missing Boise woman holds vigil in celebration of her life | Local News | idahopress.com
She had told friends that she needed to get away for a while, according to previous reporting by the Idaho Press. She left a note for her family, packed some things and stayed with friends until people stopped hearing from her. She was last seen in McCall after holding a job there for one day and has never been found.

Approximately 40 members of Dunlap-Bosse’s family and friends laughed and shed tears as they shared their favorite stories of her; they gathered in nearly freezing temperatures at the Boise park, where they played her favorite artists, like Garth Brooks, Ozzy Osbourne and Led Zeppelin.

Old Polaroids of her lay on picnic tables in the park, scattered among handmade crafts she had made along with personalized notes and her old stuffed teddy bear. The birthday cake, which lay centered on a table, read, “Happy Birthday Krystyn, we will leave our heart lights on” — a reference to the movie, “ET,” which was her favorite movie growing up, according to her mother, Kim Bosse.

Man linked to missing Boise woman killed in police shooting

"An Idaho man interviewed in relation to a Boise woman who disappeared nearly 30 years ago was killed in a police shooting on Monday.

Charles Corey Castro, 54, was shot by two Owyhee County deputies after allegedly becoming agitated and charging at the officers with a weapon, according to a press release from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office was called to serve a civil protection order at the 16000 block of Rim Rock Lane near Murphy, the press release said.

Castro was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The protection order was filed on Friday by Castro’s wife, said Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue during a press conference held on Tuesday.

Donahue said the Owyhee County sheriff had told him Castro’s residence was well-known to officers, as the office’s personnel had responded to the residence nearly seven times in recent
weeks.

Castro was previously interviewed by the Idaho Press regarding his ex-girlfriend, Krystyn Dunlap-Bosse, who went missing in 1994 when she was 17 after friends said she was last seen with Castro, someone they believed was abusive after allegedly witnessing explosive fights and bruises on Dunlap-Bosse’s face and arms.

Family and friends who spoke to the Idaho Press are convinced Dunlap-Bosse’s boyfriend was the last person to see her.

At the time of Dunlap-Bosse’s disappearance, Castro, 27, was 10 years older than her and on parole for theft. Later in life, he was convicted for lewd conduct with a minor."

Coming up on September 23, 2023, Krystyn’s family is planning to search additional areas near Pleasant Valley Road. Although there is no new information that would lead the Boise Police Department to conduct further searches at this time, we understand and support Krystyn’s family in their efforts to continue searching for her.

Kim Bosse, the mother of Krystyn Dunlap-Bosse, is someone who has been searching for her daughter for almost 30 years and knows the importance of bringing awareness to this ongoing problem.

Bosse said keeping quiet is the worst thing anyone can do.

"That's something I’ve been guilty of the first several years, is not talking about it because it hurts,” Bosse said. “Talk about it. Let it out."

On Saturday Sept. 23, family members, police and the community conducted a ground search near Pleasant Valley Road to look for her remains.

"We received very credible information that she was actually buried out here," Krystyn's mother, Kimberly Bosse said.

"Like I've said all along, we want to bring at least part of her home and bury her, and get her out of here," Bosse said. "And if it'll help in the future of any prosecutions - who knows?"
