Bags of body parts found in SW Side trash bin
February 3, 2010

A waste disposal employee discovered bags containing human body parts in a Southwest Side trash container as he worked his usual route Wednesday afternoon.
A waste disposal employee discovered what he believed to be human body parts in the garbage about noon in the 8100 block of South Western Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Gabrielle Lesniak said.

Gruesome discovery may have south suburban connection

Bernie Tafoya reporting
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Chicago police are trying to determine whose body parts were found on the Southwest Side yesterday and how that person died.

<snip>
Police said the parts include two legs and an arm.

The investigative avenues for police include looking into whether the body was that of one of two women reported missing in the south suburbs.

One of them was from Harvey. The other, 35-year old Dana Hayes of Park Forest, was reported missing a week and a half ago and her ex-boyfriend, Terrence Coulter, was arrested yesterday for possession of a handgun. Coulter had been out on bond on charges he tried to stab to death Hayes in 2007.

No confirmation yet that the remains are female or male that I can find. However according to the above information they must be African American remains.

I wonder why they are only considering missing women from the south suburbs. If they are female remains there are quite a few black women missing from both Chicago and the south suburbs.

None of the articles I have found have indicated whether or not a skull was found.

gosh this is gruesome.

I hope they are able to identify whomever this is and allow their family closure and justice. I just hate that this happens and it is so hard to read the way in which the remains were disposed.

Prayers to the family who is soon to get some news regarding their loved one.

Body parts found in a Chicago trash bin earlier this month do not belong to missing Park Forest woman Dana Hayes, authorities have confirmed through DNA testing.

I sure hope this means they have now put the DNA for the UID in Codis. Plenty of missing black females from Chicago. I hope LE is able to determine who she is.

Not much more info out on these remains, other than the location they were found.

bizarre how the news article summarized by Cubby said they ruled out one missing person based upon DNA yet the UID is now in Namus and it says they have no DNA profile:

I'm glad to see this UID has been entered into NamUs. I don't know if you saw or not, but there were huge problems with the Cook County morgue. Some of it was mentioned in the unid'd Gacy victim thread iirc. It was bad. Bodies were piling up....

Long story, but considering what kind of mess the current staff inherited it doesn't surprise me they don't know where DNA files are located or they have been lost?

Maybe the detectives who worked Dana Hayes case might have an idea where the dna sample from this UID is located, since they had someone compare Dana's dna to this UID.

jmo and hth

I just googled, but couldn't find any updates on this poor person :(
