The department is now seeking family members who had a male relative go missing in the 1970s and are willing to donate a DNA sample for comparison.

Because Chicago has such a large Polish community, I sent off an email to a contact I have with this missing and unidentified organization in Poland to ensure they were aware of the most recent efforts being made to ID these 8 remaining victims.

Not sure if it will help ID these remaining 8, but it can't hurt to ensure this organization in Poland has this info.

Age, height, and time of disappearance are all within the estimates. Also, although he was from Ohio, he disappeared while traveling from Las Vegas to PA. There's nothing listed about his method of travel, whether by car or bus, but if you Google map a trip from Las Vegas to the state of Pennsylvania, I80/I90 seems to be the most direct route, which could put him near Chicago. Thoughts?

Looks good to me. Gacy apparently liked to target bus terminals, so the circumstances would seem right too.

I put in another phone call to the lady I spoke with in Cook a few days ago to let her know about the info regarding the site from Poland. Especially since the info on Cooks site is only for submitting DNA from those currently residing within the US.

They may need to set something up for those outside of the US wishing to submit DNA if circumstances exist they are abroad but their missing family member went missing within the US. So now Cook Cty also has the contact information and link to the MP site from Poland.

I went over there yesterday and was surprised that this grave had no evidence of being recently disturbed. Perhaps it is just a memorial and not a burial location? I sure hope they didn't forget this person.

I called it in to the contact on NAMUS at the Ohio AG's office. I've never done that before, so I was kind of nervous but he was very nice. He said they'll look into it, so we'll see what happens.

All eight victims' jawbones and teeth had been saved but then buried, in eight separate buckets in a wooden coffin, in 2009. Four of the sets of remains yielded good DNA but the remaining four victim's actual graves had to be exhumed, with femurs and vertebrae taken for DNA. The four were buried at different cemeteries. So each of these eight must actually have two gravesites, one as a John Doe in a cemetery and one shared gravesite with the other seven victims, and the grave you saw may have been from one of the four whose jawbone or teeth provided a good DNA sample, making exhumation unnecessary.

The key quote from Sheriff Tom Dart:

"We're sitting on things that we believe can help bring closure to them - to me, that would be somewhat immoral for me not to do that."​

There is a clear inference to be taken from that with regard to his predecessors, who made a decision not to bother with identifying these 8 people.

Wow! I drove past this cemetery twice this evening. (and I didn't know or pay attention to the name of it because it is so small) I didn't know one of Gacy's victims was buried here. I'll have to stop there again soon. My sons godfather went to the grade school across from the cemetery on Canterbury ages ago and still lives in this neighborhood, and we always make the turn at the library so my son can see the giant statue of liberty in front of the former mayor of Westchester's home on Downing.

I'm really surprised this cemetery has a Hillside address and not a Westchester address.

adgorn, I found your link with the info on this particular UID. Is your marker on the google map the accurate location of this particular doe? On the Roosevelt side rather than the Canterbury side?

Is the photo in your link from this particular stone? I noticed it didn't have flowers. I wasn't in the area during visiting hours but I will be sure to go soon, and put some flowers on the grave.

This man fits into the age and time frame for a possible match to one of these 8 UID's. I did not hear back from the email I sent to my former contact at the polish MP database. I'm going to go through those missing abroad and submit any possibles in the same manner Carlk did, as I am unsure if my previous contact is still with the organization.

The above MP is the only male listed as missing abroad in the US between 1972 and 1979.

Mr. Hozewski is listed at 5'5"

Age is a little off. Mr. Hozewski was 19 when he went missing, the age estimate for the UID is 22-28.

Mr Hozewski's missing date is June 5, 1976. The UID is believed to be missing between June 13, and Aug 6,1976.

Doenet lists the estimated date missing from June of 1976 through December of 1976. It's kind of hard to match the victim list at the Cook Cnty site to Doe's, dates but I think this is Cook victim #26

I agree. 956UMIL has a much more similar facial shape. The big question is whether Hozewski had dentures or missing front teeth.

Agree. I'm also wondering about the lack of mention of any European dental work on the 8 remaining victims, but considering there was so little information available on these 8 until the most recent presser it may have been those details were never made public.

It would be really nice if Cook Cnty would release info indicating a little more about the dentals.
