Do you guys think this was his first victim ? I know he is 28 that is young but I cannot help but think someone this sinister started at a much younger age. Has any of his family spoke? Wonder what they think, does he have siblings? They should do the right thing and help as much as they can. ( yeah right) ..
I personally feel like he's wanted to do this for a long time, and something happened in 2016 that made him start physically acting on his thoughts. He may have tried to lure some before, but I don't think he was successful until now.

Every single person in Yingying's life has been forever hurt by this. It's so unfair and just sad. But I think that's also true for those in his own life who now have their own reconciliations to deal with. This monster has hurt so many people. I hope he's feeling the pain deep in his black, empty soul.

If there is evidence on his phone that point to ZYY being murdered/dead, wouldnt that be enough to charge him for murder? I feel there is still not enough evidence.

From what Yellow said, there may be enough evidence, but once the charge changes to murder, the case kicks back to state court and they can do longer hold the death penalty over his head to get a confession and the location of the body.

No Prelim Necessary! He's already been found worthy of prosecution by a jury of peers! I still shudder to think if it weren't for those 2 fuzzy camera images we may have never known what happened to her. He might have gone on to hurt more young women, more families, thinking he's smarter than everyone else. Sorry BC, you're not smarter than the FBI and you're not smarter than the good people on the jury that indicted you!

And the fact that he drove an unusual car.

It would not automatically kick back to state court. Both feds and state court could both assert their own separate charges. What would most likely happen is feds would defer prosecution until there is a state trial. Or defense would choose to litigate the jxn issues on a motion to dismiss. If he gets convicted under state law, feds may not bother prosecuting him especially if there are jxn issues and it turns out not to have sound interstate connections. If he gets acquitted in state court, feds could try their luck on some of the jxn issues. However, it is quite unusual to do this, you rarely hear of any cases where there are both state and federal trials, even though as a technical matter both can assert jurisdiction. Plus, it just seems inequitable to assert jxn in cases where states don't have death penalties but not assert in cases they do.

He may also be guilty of other federal crimes like computer or gun crimes or whatnot. They may only have charged him with federal charges because the state charges at this point are weak since they do not have a body. Who knows what else they know but he was an extreme danger to the people in the community. LE personally and professionally would have suffered if it was known he was targeting other girls pointing out good victims and admitting to the crime on audio and they did not bring him in.

He has an older brother who lives in Asia and a younger sister. I havent heard a thing about his family making any comments.

I'm not sure what they would say. If his attorneys are arguing that he did not do this, I cannot imagine what they could say that would make anyone feel better. His attorneys are probably telling them not to say anything at the moment. If he confesses...that's another thing.

Right, sorry about that. I knew about that from what you said before. I should have been clearer.

I agree on all points. I do believe BC has been abusive in the past, most likely using BDSM as his cover. I don't feel like he's killed before though.

I do hope Yingying is recovered soon, her poor family...

Really seriously, who hires or calls a lawyer because your car is caught on video, then after that decides to go to the victims vigil, point out what makes a good victim and then talk about the crime to someone? And all that, after you are caught in a red-handed lie where he have to admit you were the last to see the victim alive? Serial killers like Ted Bundy don't do that kind of stuff. Hopefully, he made a lot of mistakes, so it will be an easy case to prosecute.

We are just lucky there was the video. If he was this sloppy, i am hopeful he would have slipped up anyway, but his "mistakes" so far are great for prosecution. I doubt he would have done this before.

I guess I really meant to.ask if LE has concluded evidence searches there or if it is being secured. Poor wording.

I tend to think this was his first murder, considering he was bragging it to someone, and the fact he has a wife who seems to be living with him. It doesn't seem he could keep a previous murder a secret to himself (this is under the assumption that those close to him was not accomplice).

Also, like someone else previously said, I think his words "she panicked" when realizing the car was heading to wrong direction had partial truth, and YY being incapacitated as soon as getting into the car is not very likely. Somehow, the word "panicked" sent chills down my spine.

I just wanted to say the exact same thing. I totally agree with you.

Not sure this has been mentioned here before... But BC was arrested on his birthday. Whomp whomp.

I heard it in a report when they were explaining that's why some reported him to be 27 and some said he's 28.

With all due respect, we have no idea what LE has told YZ's family. I believe they have most likely been very candid with them, and are working diligently to give them "answers." Is there a reason you think otherwise?

You make a good point. Thank you. To answer your question, as of yesterday the family is still looking for her. http://wqad.com/2017/07/12/report-f...university-of-illinois-student-presumed-dead/

This article dated July 12, 2007 states "Despite investigators’ belief that Zhang is dead, her family is still holding out hope. A business in Salem says her family has been in town looking for her, going off tips of sightings".

So, how much has LE has shared with the family? That's a legitimate question. It doesn't appear they have been shown a videotaped murder or been told to wait for tests on remains already found and highly likely their daughter's.

I agree. It seems that either the family has not been shown the "facts" LE said they found during the investigation and which led them to believe YY is dead, or they have been shown but they don't find them convincing.

Salem Police Detective Bryan Green says a possible citing of missing kidnapped Chinese student Yingying Zhang in Salem, Illinois has been ruled out.

WJBD Radio reports that Green traveled to Champaign Tuesday to meet with the parents of 26-year-old Zhang to show them surveillance video of the woman who apparently had been mistaken for their daughter. Green says they said the woman in the video was not their daughter. >>more

Could the defense attorney use the fact that the family still thinks she may be alive as part of his defense?

That being said...does anyone think it is possible someone was in the backseat?

I have wondered this for awhile. That fits more with him being ride share. Or pretending to be, I should say. If he had someone lay down Yingying would see them when she went to the window and was chatting, but if the person was just sitting back there he could have said they were also headed her direction maybe. If someone is in he back I say it was most certainly a female. I don't know a single woman that is getting in a car with 2 unknown males no matter how late she is running. Not happening.
