Can you rephrase your question? I believe there was a miscommunication as to what you meant and how I( some) read it. Thanks.

'Publicly known' is not even actually a factor. In yesterday's posts I linked to definition under IL laws and also under Fed laws.

"We totally understand and respect their way. But for us it seems that this journey is too long and we don't know where we are. And we don't know when we can get to the end," Hou said. "We feel helpless."
The family has met with the FBI at least a dozen times, according to family lawyers. Hou said investigators shared "good news" about the evidence they've collected, but no details and no breakthrough yet on where Ms. Zhang may be.

Father-
. And every day he just walks to Yingying's apartment from our apartment and just stays there a long time. I never ask him why. But I think this is the only way he has now to cure his wound" in his heart, Hou said

Article goes on to say family are considering hiring a private investigator.

In the light of all this nothingness could we step up our searching online?
Try to find his tracks up to June 12?

His haunts, his contacts, his known habits..?

'We feel helpless'

The family hasn't hired a private investigator yet because it doesn't want to interfere with police investigation and hasn't raised enough money, Hou said. He estimated that cost and related expenses at $500,000 to $1 million.

"We do not really want to hinder or interfere with their process," he said.

He said the family hasn't discussed when it might hire a private investigator.

-.-.-

"At the beginning when we said we will never give up, maybe you will not believe us," he said. "But now after the struggle of two months ...I am here to tell you again, we will not give up until we find her."

Hou said it's important in Chinese culture to bring a deceased person home for a dignified burial so they can "rest in peace."

"I have promised Yingying I will protect her and I will stay with her," Hou said. "I missed the first one, but I will never miss the second one."

Copy of diary turned over to missing scholar's family

One poignant piece of evidence in the FBI investigation of Yingying Zhang's disappearance is a small gray journal with the words, "My Little Diary" on the cover.

The book, with Ms. Zhang's last recorded thoughts, was swept up by investigators from Ms. Zhang's apartment in the early days of the investigation and taken to FBI headquarters in Quantico, Va.

Now a replica of the diary, put together by the University of Illinois, is in the hands of her parents.
-.-.-
UI Police Officer Tara Hurless escorted Kaler to Dixon Graphics in Champaign, which made digital copies of the pages — written by hand in Chinese — and reprinted them.

"The book could never be out of her sight," Kaler said.

Hurless and those who handled the book at Dixon had to wear gloves. Dixon employee Ilia Bricker then worked with the scanned images to crop and center the pages for printing.

I came to this forum because this case is in my backyard, as a Champaign resident, I am a UofI Alum, and was seeking information. Recently, I have been trying to ask a question and as thekarmabus has pointed out there has been a disconnect between what I meant and what some people have read. A very astute observation. This leads me to a concept I would like to share and a suggestion that it is something we should all think about.

Confirmation Bias is the tendency for people to seek out information that confirms their hypothesis or opinion no matter how rational the information is and discount or ignore information that does not support their hypothesis or opinion. There is a nice scholarly article here: http://psy2.ucsd.edu/~mckenzie/nickersonConfirmationBias.pdf

This phenomenon can be especially problematic when investigating crimes. It is something that everyone is guilty of at one time or another. The best we can do is be aware of the potential bias and try to guard against it. I will be taking a break from this forum and examining whether my own confirmation bias has unduly contributed to my opinion.

Does anybody have any ideas for searching?

Some people can physically search, some can online search. I can do latter.
Is it worth putting heads together and coming up with a plan of action?
She is still missing.
What could LE have overlooked? Is there anything obvious at all?

This statement tears my heart to pieces. I am so sick to my stomach over all these missing people. I pray she is found. How can BC pick her up so quickly and then dump her quickly and still not be able to be found? Ugh!! Dang it! I hope he rots.

I believe after bc got her in his car he drove into 1 of the 2 parking garages off of north goodwin and subdued her there. From that point, he would of swiched vehicals, or carried out his plan without being detected. Just my opinion.

<modsnip> Mrs O'brien does not address the question in my post.
I know that but everything she states in that post was publicly available wasn't it? That was my point. I don't know what was in the part of your post that was modsnipped as I have only just checked back in to this thread.

Oh and  Mrs. O'brien. What do you think?

Do we know where BC says he let her out of the car? What and when is her last entry in the diary?

Is it possible to check if these parking garages have cctv?
Also I have found a good map of the campus on a uofi site. I am wondering if there is a case map for this? I have found N.Goodwin but couldn't find the parking garages. I will edit to add the full website name so perhaps it can be put on page 1 of the threads? I am not able to post a full link.

I hope you hang around. Do you know if there is a map of the campus cctv system publically available? Do you know what areas of the campus have been searched? TIA.

See post #127 re diary. See LE media regarding his statement as regards where he left her out of car.. not sure whether there was a specific location mentioned, think it went like, 'she panicked when I took a wrong turn so I dropped her off'

I personally believe that this was BC's first case of abduction (it's possible he might've crossed the line with one of his practices before but I also believe he was the man pretending to be a policeman around campus that morning, and that he used the same line on YY that afternoon, perhaps using some fake badge to lure her in the car with the promise of a safe ride and gain her trust. I don't see her getting in that car any other way.

IMO he is probably sitting in jail pretty much saying "my life was over anyway" so that's why he doesn't really seem so phased by it to me. He has been pretty "poker faced" in the photos released by LE. I think this guy is probably suicidal at this point so they'll need to either find her remains ASAP or keep him under very close watch and hope he confesses eventually.

Anyway hope all of that makes sense! Reading this thread has been super insightful. I have to say I got chills at DSM's posts about the steam rooms and the abandoned house with the creepy mask!

Do you have more info on the guy impersonating LE on campus that morning? Was there a police report about that or a link?

why do you think he switched cars?

All we know is the phone pinged near the Terminal. That at least gives us the direction he went, probably. I doubt he stopped there, however.

When was the next time someone saw him? is there a better documented timeline than the rough one provided in earlier threads?
