INDIANAPOLIS -- The FBI says it found human remains during a search Thursday morning on the city's northeast side.
Investigators say they're focused on two retention ponds behind the Spanish Oaks Apartments in the 3600 block of Wingate Court.

"During the course of an investigation, the FBI notified IMPD they discovered possible human remains. The Marion County Coroner and IMPD will be assisting with the investigation," said Lt. Michael Wolley, IMPD. "At this time, there is no ongoing public safety concern for the area."

Human remains found on Indianapolis' northeast side

Human remains have been discovered in a large field on the east side of Indianapolis.

The remains were found in a field near East 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.

"As in any inquiry, time will be needed to determine whether these remains are related to an FBI matter," Bavender said in an email.

Beyond confirming that human remains were found, authorities have not released any details about the identity, sex or circumstances of the person's death.

Neighbors say the investigation has been going on for several days.

At least three blue tents have been set up as the FBI and IMPD try to determine why those human remains are here, as well as who they belong to and how long they have been buried.

Back in mid-March Tony Parran snapped a picture of State Police pulling an SUV out of the adjacent pond.

It’s not clear if that discovery is connected to the human remains, but Tony says when he asked investigators about the SUV in March, he was given little info.

“They said it was a federal investigation and refused to elaborate,” said Parran.

An out there thought is that it’s the Delphi perpetrator, perhaps a suicide? Seems like the FBI would not be immediately involved in a “standard” find of remains. My heart aches for the families of Abby and Libby, and the case prompted me to join WS.

I was looking at missing people in indy and there's so many. Do we know what kind of car it was?

They only said it's an SUV. The video has a picture of the vehicle being pulled out but it's far away and covered in muck from the pond: IMPD, FBI investigating human remains found on east side

Can anyone get a screenshot of the vehicle from the video? Maybe someone here can figure out the make and model.

The SUV found in March could be unrelated to the remains found in the field, of course, but it sure seems likely to be related with both being called federal investigations. JMO.

"No one in the neighborhood though, including Parran, can really say what this was all about or if it's related to a car, that divers with Indiana State Police brought out of the retention pond in March.

"As a member of this community, I was concerned about what's going on in my backyard,” said Tony Hosea, who said he used to walk by the pond. He doesn't anymore.

"I stopped going. I stopped going because I encountered some strange people back there,” said Hosea.

This week's activity though, took Hosea back near the pond for a look.

"They said, ‘It's top secret. Get out,’” Hosea recalled. “And they escorted me out, so I left,” he added."

Ooops...didn't see your post, dotr. I should refresh the page more often, but it takes forever to load.
Glad that you posted it because when i click on it, your image is enlarged whereas i messed up and the pic will not enlarge, so just left it that way rather than fight with the technology!

I was going to say - it doesn't look like an SUV to me?

ETA - I don't think the grille in front is consistent with a Caravan though.

It's hard to tell it has the shape of an older model Dodge caravan, Chrysler town & country or voyager, toyota sienna in any case its a mini van

I'm definitely getting minivan vibes from the door handle placement. They're next to each other/ the back door handle is towards the front of the door which I think is unusual in an SUV but common in a minivan. Also the trim along the bottom of the door is pronounced.

The front is hard because of all the muck and the angle...
