I wonder if the court sealed the case because of the publicity and/ or pending civil case. Anyone up to date on the civil case? If I have time, I’ll look it up on Pacer, the access site for all federal matters.

I'm sure they will be online asking for more money for something soon.

I get it if some unforeseen misfortune hits a family. But these people? Her son NEEDS to go to Europe for some tournament. She NEEDS burial expenses. Give me a break.
Did we ever get to the bottom of life insurance for all passengers in the family? I know the life insurance issue on Chloe went dead. Sure. I’ll contribute. To the fund to figure out the finances of that family.
Grandparents of the father, LE, never said anything, did they?
Guess what I’m thinking about those grandparents.

What happened is there was a problem with the air conditioner in the Court building in San Juan for a few days, so they canceled all hearings. They will be re-scheduling his hearing. Stay tuned.

Probably money for another cruise-and something can happen to their other child....by "accident".
I guess it was bad enough just sitting her on the railing and window ledge. I’ve seen some pictures of other morons sitting a child up on (the open to the sea with no window) railings after that, but the swinging her over the open area on the other side of the railing and window ledge is what gets me.

A thought that has given me much comfort over the years in many situations is that the longer karma takes, it has been gathering interest.

In this case, hoping it’s compounding interest (not an accountant—hope that is the correct term).

Grandfather pleads guilty in Puerto Rico cruise ship death

Oct 15, 2020

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A grandfather accused in the fatal fall of his young granddaughter from an 11th-story window of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico last year pleaded guilty Thursday to negligent homicide.

[..]

Puerto Rico prosecutor Laura Hernández said Anello would be sentenced Dec. 10.

“We have found justice for Chloe,” she said.

Defense attorney Michael Winkleman said in a statement that Anello will not face any jail time and that he will serve probation in Indiana.

“This decision was an incredibly difficult one for Sam and the family, but because the plea agreement includes no jail time and no admission of facts, it was decided the plea deal is in the best interests of the family so that they can close this horrible chapter and turn their focus to mourning Chloe and fighting for cruise passenger safety,” he said.

[..]

“I wasn’t drinking and I wasn’t dangling her out of a window,” he said in a previous statement. He said he is colorblind and might not have realized the tinted window was open.

The girl’s parents sued Royal Caribbean last year and accused the company of negligence. In response, Royal Caribbean said that surveillance video shows Anello leaning out the window for about eight seconds before lifting the girl by and out of the open window for 34 seconds before he lost his grip. The family said it would have been physically impossible for Anello to lean out like that.

The civil case is ongoing.

Royal Caribbean did not respond to a request for comment on Thursday.

Even to this day Sam Anello remains a coward and does not admit any culpability in the events leading to Chloe’s death.

I do not know if he suffers any remorse or guilt: so many excuses have been put forth as to why Chloe died in his care that SA probably believes in his altered reality.

I only hope the family does not benefit financially AT ALL from this tragedy.

FWIW, the online fundraiser for the family is still taking donations as is the fundraiser for SA's defense.

IMO they should all be ashamed of themselves. SA for making a mockery of justice with his "I'm only pleading guilty to end the family's nightmare and hey can you give me some money" garbage and the parents for not asking the fund organizer to discontinue. IMO it's all just moneygrubbing.

And shame on the San Juan prosecutor for allowing SA to get away with his BS. As it is she's letting him off with essentially a wrist slap and says nothing about his public comments where he's declaring himself innocent of any wrongdoing. I don't see any "justice" being carried out. MOO. Bah.

Anything new in the civil case, anyone know??
From a statement sent to ABC4 today from MW:

This decision was an incredibly difficult one for Sam and the family, but because the plea agreement includes no jail time and no admission of facts, it was decided the plea deal is in the best interests of the family so that they can close this horrible chapter and turn their focus to mourning Chloe and fighting for cruise passenger safety by raising awareness about the need for all common carriers to adhere to window fall prevention laws designed to protect children from falling from windows.

The civil lawsuit against Royal Caribbean continues. We are deep into the process of discovery in the Civil case having already taken several depositions and numerous upcoming depositions including the Captain of the ship. Sadly, all of the discovery and evidence taken so far in the case confirms that this was a tragic, preventable accident and that there are absolutely no grounds to bring criminal charges against Sam Anello.

Isn’t that the truth. He is so disgusting with his denial, and lies and color blind BS. The whole family makes me sick.
And what justice, waiting to sentence him then it will only be probation? What a miscarriage of justice.

Exactly!

Appalled this man has been offered this plea which let's him able to walk away , not answer to any questions about the visual evidence they have . He has been allowed to do what is best for him . Sadly , little Chloe has not been served any justice .

I suppose by “ discovery”, MW is refering to that travesty of a reconstruction of the accident his law firm engaged in. Unfortunately, he has invested so much of his time and his firm’s resources that he likely is compelled to carry on in order to possibly recoup some remuneration.

Hopefully.... he will fail. Perhaps that will be Chloe’s justice.... that no one profits from her demise.

My guess is they hope a cash poor RCCL (Covid) will settle so they can claim victory -
