Irena Sendler, savior of 2,500 Jewish children died at 98

Irena Sendler is probably someone most people have never heard of but she is a truly a heroine. She risked her life to save almost 2,500 children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi liquidation.
I have read/researched a lot about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and it is truly remarkable that a group of Jewish Resistance fighters were able to engage the German Nazi army for over 40 days while living in the sewers of Warsaw.

Mila 18 is a book by Leon Uris (author of Exodus, among other great books). Mila 18 was the headquarters during the uprising. This a great book about the uprising in Warsaw, although the characters are fictional the story is very real.
