I certainly have not seen anything to support that claim. Hostages matter, but the first priority is to disrupt Hamas militants and prevent this from happening again. Hamas militants are mass murderers. The cannot be allowed to interfere with any civilized society.
The civilians being slaughtered do matter. President Biden has made it abundantly clear that Israel must abide by the "laws of war." I've seen the video of the massive destruction in Gaza's residential areas that the US media has provided.

Israel has the right to defend itself, but still needs to operate within the laws of war, President Joe Biden said Wednesday during a news conference where he also called out “extremist settlers attacking Palestinians in the West Bank.”

@otto : Thanks for the link.
Prayers for the safety of the Israeli forces uppermost.
This is so sad -- all Hamas had to do was to release those hostages they had no right to abduct.
Instead, by their actions -- they've made it clear they do not care about the safety of their own residents.

A near-total blackout of internet and cellphone service has taken hold across much of the Gaza Strip, according to witnesses there and companies that monitor global connectivity.
This is a good thing as Hamas and those fighting alongside them will not be able to communicate unless they have 'walkie-talkie'-type handhelds.

There's also this article :

Hamas has called on Palestinians in the West Bank to 'mobilize' in support of Gaza.
Crowds of hundreds of people in the city of Ramallah, on the West Bank chanted 'If you have a rifle... you should either kill a Jew or give it to Hamas,' according to video from Palestinian news agency Shehab.

The tone of Hamas almost makes it sound like they're calling on whole families to target and kill Israelis ?
Or whom exactly are they appealing to ?
Like, fathers. mothers, and maybe even teens old enough to handle a gun or knife ?

It's as if they could care less if these civilians are killed.
That's what it sounds like, and imo that is wrong, according to the "Laws of War"; which Gaza looks like they're breaking.
Imo.

  1. Civilians must abstain from fighting;
  2. The party in control of the civilian population must not place them at heightened risk of harm by using them as human shields;
  3. The attacking force must take precautions to avoid or minimize excessive civilian casualties when attacking lawful targets.
Given Gaza's urban density, it will be extremely difficult for the Israelis to avoid substantial civilian casualties even when using precision weapons.
And this task will be nearly impossible if Hamas, as it has consistently done in the past, uses civilians and now hostages to shield military targets.

While Israel bears primary responsibility to avoid excessive civilian deaths in its bombardment of Gaza,
Hamas' ability to claim the bombardment constitutes a war crime would be weakened if it deliberately places its own people in harm's way.
Emphasis mine.

Some fairly objective points about the laws of war in this link.

It's as if Hamas expects Israel to abide by rule # 3; but ignores rules # 1 & 2 ?

Israel launched its most intense assault so far on Hamas in Gaza, striking with jets, tanks and artillery, and also cut off communications in response to the Hamas terror attacks three weeks ago. NBC News’ Richard Engel reports as the Palestinian Red Crescent says it has lost contact with its staff running ambulances and emergency services.

USMC Lt. Gen. James Glynn, dispatched by Pentagon to advise Israel on risks inherent in an invasion of Gaza Strip, has returned to the US.“Make no mistake: what is, has or will unfold in Gaza is purely an Israeli decision.” -USMC commandant Gen. Eric Smith told reporters.

Yep! And I'm hoping Congress won't spend one dime of U.S. taxpayer money in support of Israel's inhumane decision.
My heart goes out to the friends and families of the hostages being held in Gaza.

It's nothing new for Hamas to blame Israel for Hamas murders. We saw that with the Hamas missile that fell onto the parking lot next to the hospital. Hamas claimed that Israel bombed the hospital and that 3-500 people were trapped under the rubble. There was no truth to anything that Hamas said about the hospital.

It's similar to the UN and Hamas stating 10 days ago that hospitals would run out of fuel within 24 hours. Here we are, still not out of fuel.

The Gaza City hospital cannot evacuate. This is not because there are patients in surgery, but because it would leave the Hamas Militant Operations Centre, underneath the hospital, unprotected.

Very sad news. iirc, Hamas Health Minister provided names of all deceased. May they RIP.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has announced that it has carried out an Attack tonight utilizing 2 “Kamikaze” Drones against the U.S. Operations Base at Al-Tanf in Southern Syria near the Border with Jordan and Iraq.

According to Senior U.S. Officials in Washington, the IDF’s Objective of the Intense Air and Ground Operations tonight in the Gaza Strip alongside the United States calling for a Humanaitrian Ceasefire has been a “Final Push” by both Countries to see the Release of the Hostages in the Strip before the beginning of the Full-Scale Ground Invasion which many of them may not Survive; however despite hopes that this would make Hamas realize this is the Last Opportunity for them to Negotiate there has so far been No Progress in the Negotiations since the Attacks began.

Yes, Yes, Yes, 1,000x Yes. There is no one to blame for what is going on Israel right now besides Hamas, Iran, and the People who are providing them Support and the ability to commit these Heinous Actions. Whatever happens from here is the Appropriate Response to these Actions.

White House says ‘not drawing red lines for Israel’

“We’re not drawing red lines for Israel,” Kirby says on a call with reporters. “We’re going to continue to support them” but “since the very beginning we have, and will continue to have, conversations about the manner that they are doing this.”

Kirby says the US is still evaluating the impact of airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias and “we will not hesitate to take further actions in our own self-defense.”

He also says 10 additional trucks filled with humanitarian aid have made it to Gaza, bringing the total to 84, but that the US is aware that fuel there “is only anticipated to last a couple of days.”

Photos from the train station show police detaining numerous protesters, whom are clad in black shirts with slogans such as “Jews say ceasefire now.” The protest was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, an anti-Zionist group.
