Jersey was arrested on a federal felony warrant. I think that is why it went to the grand jury from reading law sites about federal felonies. So, the feds went to the grand jury to get the warrant on 10/13/11, in order to arrest and charge him with tampering. Guessing at best. Interesting though.

Johnny Tanko, known in the press as "Jersey," was taken into custody on an unrelated federal felony warrant on Saturday. There is no word on the nature of the federal felony warrant. Police did not comment on the nature of the warrant.

It did not go to the grand jury. My apologies. My speculation last night was wrong.

Well, if it's standard for the FBI to go to a grand jury to get a federal warrant, it makes sense & believe they did. It's been said he was being held in federal custody at times. Jim Spellman couldn't even find him one weekend and he went directly to the jails.

They said today the FBI would continue working with LE on the case. I think the FBI is in charge. KC is overburdened at the moment with crime..? jmo

You have to read my links in my post above in order to make sense of it along with the news article. There's more articles stating it being a federal felony warrant. So we all know the FBI does not let much out. They are involved in missing children cases especially if the child has been kidnapped and taken across state lines. I like them being on missing children cases, they have more at their fingertips than most states and cities do.

I'm just throwing stuff out there to see what will stick while I'm baking etc...for tomorrow.

I feel like I'm talking into the wind but....there was no grand jury indictment. I was wrong. And Tanko is in the Clay County jail or at least he was as of this morning when a "new" mug shot was obtained.

I *think* the confusion on his custody status comes from clay county detention population sheet does not list him as their inmate, but vinelink says he is there. Something is definitely up with him not being listed with clay county. He hasn't been listed publicly since about a week after he was in custody. I have also heard from others that clay county refuses to let him have any visitors for some reason. Don't know what to make of that.

You are welcome to post your thoughts and I did not mean to insult you. I just had posted a couple of times that there was no grand jury indictment and it seemed like the false information kept being repeated. False information that admittedly I started and that bothers me because I try and be very factual in my posts.

I would think if anyone testified for the grand jury it would be the owner of the car JT is accused of tampering with or perhaps anyone who may have witnessed him messing with the car. It is my understanding, the person charged with the crime does not testify for the grand jury.

North Kansas City Hospital (just to the west of here) has tri-county mental health facility housed in the property, but I don't know if it is residential or not.

For what it's worth, the spokesman for the Clay County Prosecutor's Office said today that the charge against "Jersey" was NOT taken to a grand jury.
