On July 20, the day of the shooting, Holmes sent the notebook to Fenton.

Date in the article BBM

Unless JH happened to have put the correct postage on his package and deposited it in a USPO (or some other mail service) drop box on the street on July 19, I am not sure how it would bear the postmark of July 20. The shootings and aftermath were underway during the first hour of July 20, and after that JH was in police custody.

Awesome timeline! Very helpful. Day of the shooting was 20th because it happened after midnight. So Techno Music started at 11:30 on 19th and sending out notebook would have had to have been before the 20th as Waitin' pointed out.

Feel free to add.

Added everybody's information listed. I removed the one about the notebook just b/c there really seems to be a lot of conflicting reports about when it was mailed/received.

I just figured out that 4 weapons were found at the scene. (I know, I'm late!) But we only have 3 purchases on the timeline, right? What kind of gun was #4 and where did he get it?

So, we don't have any details about where/when "he" got the 2nd Glock? Also, do we know if he bought the Assault Rifle before or after his exam? (Was the exam in the morning? What time does the Thornton store open?)

....post-google:

Looks like 2nd Glock purchase was probably May 28th on the same day as the shotgun purchase.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-07-20/colorado-shooting-holmes/56373668/1

The assault rifle was traced to a Gander Mountain gun store in Thornton, Colo., the Remington shotgun and one of the Glock handguns were bought at a Bass Pro Shop in Denver, and the second Glock handgun was purchased at Gander Mountain store in Aurora.

Rollinginit, How detailed can we get with our timeline? Do we know from eye-witness statements/hospital statements which were used? Did he use all 3 different types (I understand one Glock was found in his car) that night? I remember the one witness talking about his use of buckshot first. That is used by the shotgun, right? So, he began with the shotgun and then switched to the Assault Rifle and then that jammed and he went outside? Was the Glock fired?

If anybody can add to the timeline...please do. Anybody is welcome with my full permission to use what I have already started. For myself, I find timelines a lot easier to understand. LOL

DeadCat, I read the same things you have listed. I think one of the glocks was left in the car during the shooting.
My husband said the buckshot/ shotgun probably did the most damage to victims. I think it was reported that jh put a drum on the assault rifle. It also jammed. It's my understanding he then switched to the glock.

Rolling, I'd have never thought that about the buckshot being the most harmful in that scenario, but your hubby seems to be spot on. My expert left the building, so I googled.

"In the case of Buckshot loads, with each trigger pull, at minimum 8 pellet projectiles are discharged down range towards the target. The 12 gauge shotgun is one of the most effective firearms in “close quarter” situations, like this indoor cinema. It is my contention that this is the firearm that did the most damage and caused the most death and injuries. The 12 gauge shotgun is arguably the most common sporting firearm on the planet."

Added when he enrolled at Univ of Co-Denver to timeline

Should we add:
May 2011 Name first comes up at 1690 Paris in Aurora on public searches (moved to CO)
April 2012 Application for new apt. denied

May 8 - presentation of RNA Biomarker paper

http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/5204839
Excerpt:
At one point in the year, Holmes was engaged in research about RNA and was to present a paper May 8 about RNA Biomarkers, according to a class schedule. It was unclear if he presented the paper.

Holmes recently took an intense, three-part oral exam that marks the end of the first year. Those who do well continue with their studies and shift to full-time research, while those who don’t do well meet with advisers and discuss their options, including retaking the exam.

University officials would not say if he passed, citing privacy concerns.

April 2012 - Apartment application turned down.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jul/21/aurora-woman-holmes-apartment

Excerpt:
Joanne Southard has probably never had a greater vindication of her gut instincts than her decision last April to refuse to rent an apartment to James Holmes.

Now, in a building just a block away from the one the 55-year-old manages, Holmes' own apartment is a potentially lethal booby-trap filled with jars of unknown liquids, ammunition, tripwires and possible bombs.

Of course, at the time she rejected him, Southard had no inkling the neat and tidy young man in front of her had the potential to walk into a cinema and shoot 12 people dead.

Note: I'm wondering if "last April" wasn't actually 2011 (when he was initially looking for an apt) and not this past April, 2012.

I think this may have been the kind of music that was playing that night in his apt.

Excerpt:
He liked listening to trance, he watches comedies such as the office, family guy, simpsons. He even came out a few times to play games with me and -----. He was never good at them, and he played 1/5th of what I used to play.

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=146810573&p=921962683

and this article suggests he likes rock

Excerpt:
Another neighbor, Rachel Reed, 25, saw him a number of times
on the stoop, with his backpack. A couple of months ago she ran
into him at the Zephyr, where she had put a Lil Wayne rap song
on the jukebox.
Holmes disapproved, she said, preferring rock'n'roll music.
He came over and "made some racially charged comments about
rap," she said.
"He seemed like he was a normal dude," she said. "He was a
little buzzed."

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...octoral-program-doctoral-student-james-holmes

Trance would fit both rock and techno (the kind of music described that was playing on a timer in the apt.)
