I'm not the least bit surprised Josh would do this but I am very dissappionted that the boys were not protected from him.
How did he get the supplies to build a bomb?
Why didn't the police know about it?
Why, why, why was Josh allowed to be alone with those poor boys?

He didn't need a bomb - only gasoline and a lit match.

I truly hope that Josh Powell's attorney's are haunted by nightmares for the rest of their lives. JMO

Josh's Attorney's had a job to do they didn't kill those kids Josh did.

Sorry but it really bothers me when people attack the attorney for doing his job. We have a legal system and without defense attorney's that system doesn't work.

Steve Powell's "suicide watch" is nothing more than a publicity stunt designed to keep him in the media and have people feeling sorry for Joshie's dad. Boo Hoo  The "suicide watch" takes pressure off the evil acts of SP's cowardly son, too. No sympathy for either of them from me, and both will reap what they sowed. jmo

My assumption is it's automatic procedure for jailors to put a suicide watch in place in a case like this whether he said he was suicidal or not.

Obviously the system and Josh's psychosis failed the Coxes today. The jailers where Powell is don't want to take the chance that he will take to his grave any chance of getting answers as to where Susan is.

I don't think it's a publicity stunt. I think it's LE following normal protocol and THEY put a suicide watch in place.

Ok I get that today is as heartbreaking/horrible/ heart-wrenching (and 1000 other words here) as we have ever seen. However why are we now lashing out at his attorney's?? I understand if Josh has told the attorney's where Susan Powell is, however we have no independent confirmation of this. Don't get me wrong, Josh is the Horriblest person ever, but why are we now faulting his attorney for something that he has done?? His attorney did not do this, nor did they have any inkling.

I'm sorry I just don't get the above logic.

Honestly, I feel terribly sad for the social worker who was there. She was just doing her job and had no control over the situation. The children probably ran to Daddy as they got out of the car, and he hurried them into the house before the social worker could get there.

My husband has been in social work all his life and we have many friends in the field. People in child services go where they are sent and they have to follow whatever the court tells them.

And now an innocent person is traumatized by this cowardly madman who killed himself and his children. The social worker will probably have survivors guilt the rest of her life, thinking that if she had noticed something or held back the kids even for a few minutes they might have been saved. But this was clearly premeditated and planned, so no matter who brought the children there he would have done this. I'm sure he wouldn't have let anyone stop him. :maddening:

This is so devastating. How horribly disgusting and selfish to take his children with him. I wish we could bring him back to life so we could have the pleasure of punishing him ourselves.

Ive seen three people die. Two were wonderful and good hearted. Their passing over was close to beautiful.. like in the movies almost. Smiles, visions of their loved ones who had gone before them. One even reached his hand out and said "Grandma"...

The other was evil and had done unspeakable things to children, although never charged, I knew him for what he really was. In his final moments, his face contorted into a horrible grimace, so horrible there are no words to describe it. The best vision I can compare is the mask used in the horror film "Scream".. whatever he saw in his last moments were terrifying... and Ive never doubted since that moment that there is a very real place called Hell.

Im sure Josh is right there with him...

Whoa. And there it is.

But let me add. Even those who do not believe in an after life can agree that those who are evil, who have done nothing but wrong in their life, fear non-existence the most.

I need to understand this and maybe Gitana can help me but the question is this- If the Coxes could see he was a danger to them, We here at WS could see he was a danger to them, Kirsi could see it and the LE probably felt it Why didn't the courts see it? This last psychological eval where they recommended the new psycho sexual eval, why couldn't they see it? It should have been noted in the report.

Why weren't the visits in another place? All anybody had to do was listen to his ramblings, take a good look at him and see it?

Where did the ball drop here? I honestly think LE did all they could and you know the Grandparents did all they could, so where in the system was the problem? The judge, the dept of Social Services. (definitely not the poor social worker today, don't even go there)

I agree with all who said as long as there's evaluations left he should have had no contact. I do have to say that LE should have been an escort and they probably would have been glad to do so if needed.

Any parent who is the primary suspect in the murder of their girlfriend, wife or whatever should never have custody of the children till they are cleared? Is that what needs to be done?

I have not been this upset since Ethan Stacey and Zahra. There Ethan was put in the middle of abusers because this unhuman was his mother. What is the answer?

It all goes back to the constitution. Rights to one's children are constitutional rights. The right to be deemed innocent until proven guilty.

I respect that. I respect the constitution. But what about the children's rights? What about the victim's rights?

Most of us on here knew this case back to front. Thus, we knew what that creep was capable of and how sick and and dysfunctional his family was. I think that in cases so extreme as this, when there is a suspected murder, the least the court system and social services can do is be as educated as us. Do their homework and then protect the true innocent's rights before the suspect's are protected.

I have argued for years that children should never be placed or left in the custody of serious murder suspects. Let me add to that: The system needs to employ some people with a passion for justice, and for victims and their families, to have input in these cases and educate the system about the possible risks posed by suspects.

This is a horrible, evil thing that happened. Yes, perhaps he would have found a way, somehow, but the job of the system should have been to reduce all foreseeable risks. This was foreseeable, IMO. Anyone investigating this sick, sick family would know that the need for control, vengeance and cruelty were hallmarks of that monster. And they should have issued orders accordingly.

Probably wouldn't matter in this case but could well matter in other cases. Frankly I can not understand this rule. Don't tell that if one smells gas one is supposed to call their supervisor instead of 911 because apparently one isn't considered capable of figuring that it's an emergency.

I understand your logic here, however I think the call to the supervisor was because of being locked out of the house not the gas smell. And than when on he phone with the supervisor gas was smelled.

I honestly think the suicide watch is a standard procedure because it sure didn't sound like he was to broken up about it.

I have not made it through the entire thread but I had to comment. I have also cried since I found this. I feel for both families. Maybe not JP's dad but his mom and siblings. Can you imagine that your baby boy grew up to do these things? Or your brother? Your son? It was still their grandsons and nephews. They are hurting too. Hindsight is 20/20. Can anyone here honestly predict everything their spouse/child/cousin/parent/relative will do? It is easy to judge when it is not your situation.

Absolutely agree, I do remember from the beginning it was mentioned about how much Steve had an influence on Josh.

THIS is why murder suspects should not have custody of their kids. ARE YOU LISTENING JUDGES? Michelle Parker's kids could be next. Are you listening system? I am so upset right now. We ALL predicted this and NO ONE LISTENED!

I'm sorry. I am very upset.

"Michelle Parker's kids could be next."

Thank you for posting my thoughts, Gitana!

It has been stated on WS that many sleuthers are concerned with the safety of Michelle's children. I hope this terrible situation today may guide the powers that be to take proactive steps towards the safety of Michelle's children.

no sympathy from me, but they always put them on suicide watch when stuff like this happens. legalities....

i doubt it phased him much. from what twitters i saw, he called LE names and didn't show much in the way of emotions.

I'm wondering if "I'm sorry, goodbye" - was one e-mail, but sent to a list.

I'm wondering what Josh was "sorry" for? Exactly how big a "sorry" was that?
A confession?

grrrrrrrrrrr :banghead: :banghead:

to his attorney: sorry i won't be paying your bill

to LE: no way they got a sorry from him

just imo

I think an article quoted above says the e-mail was just three words: "I'm sorry, goodbye."

I know that was the content to his lawyer, but wondering if the police received the same message, or if they have said?

If anything, he would probably approve of his son's cowardly murder today.

Josh was evil to the end.
Charlie and Braden are with mommy in heaven safe now in her loving care.
Well, Josh, I hope you are where it is burning hot for eternity!

F@#%%& Coward! God bless those babies. They are going to be with their mother again and I hope their father spends an eternity in hell.

Josh's family all supported him and encouraged his abuse of the Cox family (all except his one sister, Jennifer), made up lies about EVERYTHING, so obviously they are as nuts as he was.

did you see the google pages that they put up right before/after the last hearing????
