Authorities in Whitley County are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing woman and 4-year-old girl.

Brittney Slaughter and Chloe Darnell, 4, were reported missing from the Ova Lane/Canada Town community of Whitley County. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department said Darnell was was last seen in late September.

Officials are not releasing much information right now, but they say Brittney allegedly has family members in Ohio. We are told Chole has not been seen since late September.

If you have any information on where either of these girls are, you are urged to call Whitley County Dispatch at 606-549-6017 and ask for Lt. David Lassiter, who is over the case.

(There are better pictures of both of them with this article, but can't copy.)

FOX 56 News spoke with Amber Lopez, a family member of the two, who said Slaughter is Darnell’s cousin and has had custody of her since birth. Lopez said Slaughter, 24, was last heard from around a week ago, but no one has seen Chloe since school started.

According to Lopez, Slaughter drives a red Nissan Altima with a black “X” on the hood.

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - 11-16-2023 Update: Police are now searching for a car in relation to this case.

Deputies are searching for a red 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer with a black front bumper.

The car’s last known license plate number was KY 291-RKD. We are told the title was never transferred from the previous owner and it is not currently registered.

Police say Brittney Slaughter may have been driving the car prior to her disappearance.

If you see the car, you are still asked to call Whitley County Dispatch at 606-549-6017

doe this mean they can issue an amber alert now that they have a vehicle description they believe is involved or can they not do so since BS is Chloe's legal guardian?

concerned about Chloe, not seen since September is very worrisome.

Wondering how a 20 year old was given custody of an infant (even as a cousin). Were there no other relatives?
yeah, that strikes me as a lot of responsibility for a 20 year old. Where is little Chloe? late September to now is a long time for nobody to have seen her. Particularly if CPS was involved with her life (assumption here).

agree, the comments under the sheriff's dept post are worth a look and do not give one a warm fuzzy. Makes me question even more how this young lady got custody of her niece.

I hope they find bs soon I don't think she's going to have many places to hide. Hopefully when caught she tells the truth jmoo

Sheriff Bill Elliotte told the News Journal Thursday afternoon that the vehicle has since been recovered. Additionally, a search warrant has been obtained for the residence where Darnell and Slaughter were believed to have most recently been staying.

According to Elliotte, police have been on the scene conducting the search since approximately 10 a.m. Thursday and he expects that search to continue throughout the rest of the day.

“We got a lot going on with it,” said Elliotte.

Corbin Police Department, Williamsburg Police Department and the Kentucky State Police are assisting in the search. Cadaver dogs have been brought in to assist as well. Elliotte said they will also be performing ground searches in the wooded areas around the home.

I can't see what has been posted on social media, but this doesn't sound good. I hope by some miracle that little Chloe will be found safe.

Slaughter and Hayes have been arrested, according to the Whitley County SO Facebook page.
They've also recovered a body, believed to be Chloe's, in the back yard of the house.
Trying to find a link.
Terrible. Fly high, beautiful girl.
