A cause of death has not been determined. Kilman’s body was transferred to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, where an autopsy will be performed, police said.

“Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family,” university President Joseph Hopkins said in a statement. “We have lost a student and our hearts are broken. During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern.”

Malte Akmam, a student at Campbellsville University, said it was quiet on campus Saturday in the wake of Kilman’s death.

“I think everyone is shocked from what happened yesterday,” he told NBC affiliate WLEX of Lexington, Kentucky. “It’s kind of hard to grab what really happened but we’re trying to stay safe now and just take care of each other.”

Authorities found Campbellsville University freshman Josiah Kilman dead in his dorm room around 12: 43 a.m. Feb. 24, 2024 in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Fellow student Charles “Zeke” Escalera was arrested for murder.

Campbellsville Police Department officers were called to the school’s campus after 18-year-old Josiah Malachi Kilman was found unresponsive in his dorm room. Paramedics took Kilman to Taylor Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cops did not release a cause of death but said the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville will conduct an autopsy.

“Kilman was found strangled in his dorm shortly before 1 a.m. on Feb. 24 and his wrestling teammate Charles Escalera, 21, was arrested for the crime after a tip from a local farmer who reported a suspicious person in a barn,”

I wonder what the motive was here. You don't often see make on male stranglings.

“The first time he admitted, he said, ‘I’ll admit to it,’ and then halfway through, he described how he provided the strangulation that caused Mr. Killman to become deceased, and then towards the end, he stated that he was a fugitive because he had killed a man,” said Detective Burton.

Escalera’s bond remains at $2 million cash. His case now heads to a grand jury
