Louisiana State Police, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office are investigating after human remains were found in an open shed.

The Sheriff’s Office says a local volunteer team search member found the remains, a skull, on Saturday in a shed on Prairie Rhonde Road in Prairie Rhonde.

Unidentified skull found in Evangeline Parish headed to LSU forensic lab for identification

Upon discovery, Louisiana State Police were notified as well as the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office. The scene was secured until the arrival of LSU FACES on Sunday morning December 30, 2018.

Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office met with a member from FACES. FACES were able to exhume other remains. All remains located were taken to LSU Anthropology Lab for further analysis to identify the person.

Wow, so it seems this discovery was made upon a search for another missing:

“Multiple search teams were out for over 36 hours searching for 9-year-old Bryson Thibodeaux who went missing Friday. Bryson was located before dawn Sunday. His parents were then arrested on cruelty to juvenile charges. “

(Looking to see if there’s a thread for Bryson)

If nothing else is stated, (most of) these updates are from DDP's Facebook page. Smaller updates, like Evangeline County Jane Doe's, comes from their pinned post, which updates on a regular basis.

Sorry for not linking in post #2, but I thought it was well-known by now that these updates from DDP were from said sources.

She is now "at lab for extraction." Per her Namus, she is believed to have died 2009-2017, up to 10 years per DDP. She is described by DDP as being of mixed black and French Cajun heritage. This may be a difficult case, as non-white DNA is underrepresented on GEDMatch, and my understanding is that Cajun ancestry has undergone some bottlenecks and familial marriages in the past, which can be difficult to parse out in terms of genetic genealogy. It does certainly sound like this was very much a local woman, or at least someone with roots in Louisiana. Here's some info about a genetic disorder that's being found in nearby Acadia Parish and the underlying genetics of the area.

During the search for her identity, area farmers who owned the land told investigators a guy who owned a farm nearby may have been involved with high risk females.

This seems to imply possible foul play on the part of this individual, or at least that they'd be open to dumping/burying a body of someone who died of overdose or other causes. It doesn't seem that her cause of death is known or at least hasn't been released to the public.
