Lynch was driving a pick-up truck at around 5:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, when it was struck head-on by a vehicle trying to pass another on a two-way undivided highway, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Lynch, who authorities said was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to an El Paso hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the vehicle caught fire, police said.
Together, the bassist and her fellow bandmembers recorded three albums — Thank Heavens for Dale Evans, Little Ol’ Cowgirl and Shouldn’t a Told You That — before she left the country music group in 1993 and was replaced by Natalie Maines two years later.

Lynch founded The Dixie Chicks, who now go by The Chicks, in 1989, alongside fellow members Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin and Emily Erwin.
