Brutal and disturbing.

Three homeless men in critical condition after baseball bat attacks in downtown L.A.

Three homeless men were beaten unconscious as they slept on a downtown Los Angeles street early Sunday morning after they were battered by a man with a baseball bat, police said.

None of the victims had regained consciousness as of Monday afternoon, nearly 24 hours after someone smashed them across the head and shoulders in a pair of attacks on Flower Street, Capt. Billy Hayes of the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division said at a news conference Monday.

The suspect, who police also believe to be homeless, rummaged through the victims’ pockets after the attacks, Hayes said.

The first assault took place around 4 a.m. near 5th and Flower streets, according to Hayes.

The other two victims were assaulted about 4:30 a.m. at Flower Street and Wilshire Boulevard, Hayes said, and all three had been sleeping in alcoves near buildings.

“This is a violent predator,” Hayes said.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the man attacked outside of some music festival in los angeles, I think only a few blocks from where these attacks occurred a month or so ago.. I'm blanking on his name and can't find his web sleuths now but I know he had one. He was ultimately found at a hospital in the area about 8-10 days later. There were claims that he was beaten severely too. I really hope they catch whoever is attacking these people. So brutal. These poor defenseless people.

I just found the event that the man went missing from last month. It was the Mayan Warrior event at Grand Park. 5 blocks away. Probably nothing but it was the first thing that popped into my head. I believe his attack was on a sunday as well.

Suspect held in baseball bat killings of homeless men in downtown Los Angeles - Los Angeles Times

A man suspected of pummeling homeless men with a baseball bat in downtown Los Angeles last week, leaving two dead and a third critically injured, was captured by police in Santa Monica after allegedly committing a similar attack Monday morning, authorities said.

Ramon Escobar, 47, was arrested about 7:30 a.m. in connection with an attack that left a homeless man unconscious in the 1500 block of 7th Street, authorities said. Roughly 30 minutes later, officers spotted a suspect, later identified as Escobar, in the 600 block of Broadway and arrested him without incident, Santa Monica Police Lt. Saul Rodriguez said.

In a news release issued later Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department said Escobar had been booked on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with a series of brutal attacks on homeless men who were sleeping in downtown’s Financial District earlier this month.

A news conference to discuss Escobar’s arrest has been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, according to the LAPD.

...

On Thursday, beach maintenance workers found the body of Steven Ray Cruze Jr. around 6:40 a.m. The 39-year-old San Gabriel resident had suffered massive head trauma after being attacked while he slept roughly 50 feet from the water, authorities have said. Cruze’s family told The Times he often slept on the beach after overnight fishing trips, and worked on fishing cruises in the beach area.

It was not clear whether a baseball bat was used in Cruze’s death.

Rodriguez said police have not ruled out Escobar as a suspect in the slaying or in attacks on two homeless men who suffered blunt force trauma to the head in separate attacks near the beach earlier in the month. One of those men remains hospitalized in critical condition, Rodriguez said.

As Ramon Escobar faces charges for a string of attacks with a baseball bat, which left three homeless men dead and five others injured in the Los Angeles area -- here in Houston, the police are also interested in investigating Ramon Escobar....

Houston police want to question Ramon Escobar in the case of his two missing Houston relatives, Roy Escobar and Dina Escobar. Investigators said Ramon Escobar was living with his uncle Roy when Roy vanished on Aug. 26. Two days later, Dina disappeared after she came to the house to check on her brother...."

Ramon Escobar Arrested In Bludgeoning Of 7 California Men (with clip)

"...Ramon Escobar, 47, an El Salvador native and convicted felon who has been repeatedly deported from the United States, faces three counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder in a case investigators plan to present to prosecutors on Wednesday, authorities said...

The suspect was arrested on Monday after he allegedly clubbed a sleeping homeless man in the head with a pair of bolt-cutters in Santa Monica, Los Angeles Police Department Captain William Hayes told a news conference on Tuesday.

Two other homeless men were similarly attacked on a Santa Monica beach earlier this month, as was a third man who was sleeping under a pier after a night of fishing.

Separately, three homeless men were battered with a baseball bat while they slept on the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 16, authorities said on Tuesday.

Deadly Beatings Targeting the Homeless in L.A., Santa Monica Leave a Fourth Victim Dead (with clip)

OCTOBER 3, 2018

"...Escobar has been charged with three counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder and four counts of second-degree robbery, according to prosecutors.

But Santa Monica police are requesting the DA's office amend those charges to include the last victim's death, Lt. Saul Rodriguez said.

The victims killed include Branden Ridout, 24, and Kelvin Williams, 59, who authorities believe were homeless and died after being beaten with a bat while they were sleeping in secluded areas, police said.

The third person killed is 39-year-old Steven Ray Cruze Jr., who was found dead underneath the Santa Monica Pier afte being beaten to death and robbed....

Police have not released the identity of the last victim and it is unclear when he was attacked....

Since Escobar is accused of beating several people in Santa Monica in addition to the deadly attack on Cruze, it's unclear which of them is the latest victim to die.

The timeline previously given by LAPD investigators indicates the attacks started on Sept. 8.

That day, Escobar brutally bludgeoned a person sleeping on the beach in Santa Monica — leaving the victim with blunt force trauma to the head, police said. Despite surviving and being released from treatment, the victim does not remember the incident.

Two days later, he allegedly beat another person in Santa Monica, police said. This time, the victim was left in a coma.

Then, on Sept. 16, Escobar is accused of attacking three different men in just one day. Police said he beat all of the men, who were believed to be homeless, while they were sleeping under stairwells and in other secluded areas.

Ridout and Williams were two of those victims. The third person attacked was 23-year-old Tievon Harmon, who was put on life support after suffering serious injuries, according to police...."
