"It was the day of Alexander Urtula’s college graduation. He was a standout student, a biology major at Boston College, and his parents were in town to watch him receive his diploma.

But hours before the May 20 ceremony, Urtula’s girlfriend, Inyoung You, tracked him to a parking garage in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood. There, authorities said, You was present as Urtula leaped to his death from the top floor after enduring months of her physical, verbal and psychological abuse."

This case has similarities and differences with the Conrad Roy case in which Michelle Carter was found guilty of coercing him to commit suicide in text messages - especially when he attempted to save himself and she commanded him to continue. She was sentenced to 15 months.

I am posting the link to the Conrad Roy case for reference: GUILTY - MA - Conrad Roy, 18, urged by friend, commits suicide, Fairhaven, 13 July 2014 #2 *Appeal Filed*

PLEASE keep the discussions appropriately separate. It's fine to discuss both cases but keep the focus here on this victim, the perpetrator and the families involved, as well as legal aspects arising from these cases.

I just don't know what to say. Another victim of an evil person who forced a wonderful person to commit suicide. I hope she is brought back to the US and prosecuted to the full extent of the Law!

RIP Alexander!

You, who withdrew from Boston College in August and has been living in Asia, disputed the narrative — and provided The Boston Globe with copies of texts she says she sent to Urtula just before he committed suicide.

Inyoung You reminds me of Michelle Carter and Lori Drew.

More like Carter because they were in a relationship with Conrad Roy. Carter was jealous about Roy as they had an online relationship.

Drew was upset that her daughter, Sarah, was no longer friends with Megan Meier. She thought she was being insulted by Meier.

Both drove their victims to suicide via online. Carter and You acted alone. Drew had others involved.

The Suffolk DA is reading text after text in which they say You badgered Urtula, telling him he was worthless. They also say she would threaten her own life to control him.

In one instance, they say You threatened to take her own life and leave a suicide note that blamed him in hopes her family would sue him

Updated article from: Boston College Student Pleads Not Guilty in Texting Suicide Case

In court Friday, prosecutors read from some of the thousands of expletive-laden messages You sent to Urtula, many of them sent in a stream of one-word bursts and capital letters.

They also detailed how You forced Urtula to block his friends on social media and regularly monitored his location through his smartphone's GPS.

Urtula died in Boston on May 20, the day of his Boston College graduation.

During You's arraignment, prosecutors said You became upset when she found out Urtula had been communicating with an ex-girlfriend. They say that You also threatened to harm herself and that Urtula was afraid to leave her.

Earlier this week, You, through a public relations firm, released text messages suggesting she tried to stop Urtula and alerted Urtula's brother in the moments before his death.

The judge issued an order Friday preventing You's lawyers from releasing more information to the public.

Urtula's relatives said they are devastated by his death.

Former Boston College student Inyoung You pleads guilty to manslaughter in boyfriend's suicide - CNN

Former Boston College student Inyoung You pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter in the suicide of her boyfriend, Boston College student Alexander Urtula, according to a joint sentencing memorandum.

Suffolk County, Massachusetts, Superior Court Judge Robert Ullman sentenced You to a suspended jail sentence of 2 1/2 years and 10 years of probation. You will not be remanded into custody, but if she violates her probation, the judge can impose the jail sentence in the house of corrections.

The first five years of that probationary term will be supervised, during which time You will be required to comply with a number of conditions, including that she complete community service and continue to undergo mental health treatment by a licensed provider.
