MA - Annamarie Cochrane-Rintala, 37, Allegedly Killed by Wife on 3/28/2010 - 4th Trial

Deliberations have been going for 12.5 hours in the #CaraRintala trial. The original 12 jurors deliberated 16.5 hours before 2 jurors were dismissed for personal reasons. 2 alternates were placed on the jury and the new 12 have been deliberating 12.5 hours. This is Rintala's FOURTH trial. 2 hung juries, 1 conviction that was overturned and new trial ordered.

I don't understand how these juries are getting hung. It's so obvious who committed this crime.

I've not followed this case; however, read a little about it, and it's a no brainer. Wonder if the jurors are hung on time of death? Perhaps there will be a guilty verdict today. imo

It bums me out that Rintala has had her child all this time, when custody of the child was a key item in the murderous impulse. The kid should have been given a chance out of this toxic relationship and all that followed. This case has been dragging on for years. The kid had to endure all the toxic arguments over her before the murder, her mom's murder, 7 years of mom's imprisonment, and 4 trials for murder of her mom. She deserved to be with a loving family, not one born out of murder.

BODY IN THE BASEMENT MURDER TRIAL: WATCH THE SENTENCING

Judge Francis Flannery handed down a sentence to Cara Rintala, who was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of her wife. (10/20/23)

The news of Ann Cochrane Rintala’s death reverberated among her friends and family for days. A young mother, her daughter still a toddler, was dead on the basement floor.

DENNIS MURPHY: How did you find out something awful had happened?

MARY PETRONE: I was at my desk at work. And my wife at the time called me and said, “Sit down.”

TJ DONAHUE: I heard there was an accident. That’s what I heard.

It looked as though Ann fell down those stairs. So what happened down there?

Was it an accident? Or something more sinister?

JAMIE MAGARIAN: I, I seriously —

DENNIS MURPHY: You couldn’t —

JAMIE MAGARIAN: Don’t know.

DENNIS MURPHY: Rule that out at that point.

JAMIE MAGARIAN: You can’t — you can’t rule anything out.
