Gail Knowlton

Real Name: Gail Knowlton
Nicknames: No known nicknames
Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Date: January 21, 1992
Occupation: Sears Credit Bureau Employee
Date of Birth: Unrevealed
Height: Unrevealed
Weight: Unrevealed
Marital Status: Married
Characteristics: Caucasian female.

Details: On January 21, 1992, thirty-three-year-old Gail Knowlton left her Salem, Massachusetts apartment to go to work at the Sears Credit Bureau. She didn't arrive at work and was never seen again. She left behind her paraplegic husband Edward and a sixteen-month-old son. Years later, psychic witch Laurie Cabot was asked to help assist police in their investigation. She was only given Gail's name, age, and location at the time of her disappearance.

She envisioned that Gail ran into an acquaintance outside of her door that morning, who offered her a ride. According to Laurie, she was happy to go with him. As they drove, the man "teased" her with a knife that he brought along with him. However, she did not like him doing this. The man then took her to Dolly Comp road in Mt. Washington, New Hampshire, where he ordered Gail out of the car. He then pushed her off a steep cliff and drove away. It is not known whether or not this scenario actually happened since it is based solely on Laurie's psychic vision. To date, Gail has not been found.

Suspects: Neighbors reported hearing arguments and other suspicious activities around Gail's apartment shortly before she vanished. Gail was also on probation for incidents involving her children from a previous marriage. However, it is not known if this is related to her disappearance. Laurie believes that Gail's killer drove a dark colored pickup truck and may have been involved in drugs. He is believed to be an acquaintance of Gail's. She does not believe that the killer is Gail's husband.

Extra Notes: The case was featured as a part of the October 25, 1996 episode which focused on Laurie Cabot's psychic abilities.Strangely, Gail's case is not on any missing person website, so there is a possibility that she may have since been found.

Results: Unsolved. Sadly, Gail's husband Edward passed away in 2007.

Any private investigator(s) looking to work on a MP case that seems solvable? :)

If more was known about Gail's life and livelihood, it likely would provide more clues into her disappearance. It reads to me as though Gail's life presented some tough daily challenges to her. She was caring for a paraplegic husband and a 16-month-old baby while holding down a job. She apparently also had other living children and was on probation for some sort of violation against them. There's no indication of any other familial, social, or business dynamics in her life--any of which could explain her disappearance, imo. Beyond all of that, it's possible she simply walked away from it all. Interesting case! MOO
  1. Was her ex-husband ever investigated and questioned?
  2. Is it possible Gail was involved in an extra-marital affair?
  3. Was an acquaintance or co-worker obsessed with or stalking Gail?
  4. Did Gail have any conflicts or disagreements with anyone?
  5. What type of things did she do to/with her children that landed her on probation?
  6. Was it something that would provoke someone else to retaliate against her?

The Unsolved Mysteries write-up linked to this article about Gail's son, N., so I am bringing it here. He was convicted of marijuana sales back in 2010 when he was 19-y-o. There are more details about his crimes in the article, but I thought I'd highlight a bit from the article about his life and family. I'm curious what he, and his lawyer, grandmother and uncle would have to say about Gail's life and disappearance.

Pot sales draw teen 1 year in jail

“He’s a young kid who has made some poor decisions based on some trauma in his life and he’s been self-medicating for the last two years,” Watkins told the judge.

Raised by one parent — his paralyzed father — Knowlton can’t remember a day when his father wasn’t in a wheelchair, his lawyer said. The two argued on March 22, 2007. Knowlton left the house and when he returned he found his father dead from an intentional overdose, Watkins told the court.

According to his obituary, Edward Knowlton was a Navy veteran who served on the USS Miller and published a poetry magazine. After his death, Knowlton’s elderly grandmother moved into the family home and the two took care of each other, according to Watkins.

When he’s released, Knowlton has a job waiting for him at a nursing home, said his lawyer. His uncle, who didn’t post bail to “teach him a lesson,” will also be in his life, said Watkins.

I can't access this article without a subscription. The search description suggests investigators were actively investigating her case, though. That's hopeful!

ETA - the Cabot referred to in the description is likely Laurie Cabot, the psychic mentioned on the UM page. But who is "he"?

But he and Cabot hope the show has a more serious intent -solving the case of Gail Knowlton, who has not been seen since Jan. 21, 1992. "It's a bona fide avenue for us to proceed.
