Circumstances of Disappearance
Mervin Walvatne was reported missing on December 16, 1990, by his sister who lives in Spencer, Iowa. She became concerned when she had no contact with him since July 18, 1990. Prior to that time she had regular phone contact with Mervin who was living in Arizona.

Mr. Walvatne was described as an alcoholic transient. His last places of residence were in the Yuma/Tuscan, AZ area. In the late 1970’s he also resided in the Madison, WI area, during this time he was involved in a car accident that required extensive facial surgery.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Dean Ponder, who lived at 6851 Parris Bridge Road, disappeared after a night with friends at nearby J's Tavern. He was last seen in the company of an acquaintance, on Parris Bridge Road in Spartanburg County.
Friends told police they dropped him off at Martin Feed Mill. Ponder's father reported him missing on September 2.
Dean Ponder had been out of prison for only two months when he vanished. He was released on parole in 1993 from the SC Department of Corrections after serving half of a 5-year sentence for grand larceny.
Years after he disappeared, Dean Ponder was declared legally dead. Foul play is suspected.

Maybe he's one of the MPs @madamx suggested above. I find he looks a bit like David Barth but the circumstances and location of David's disappearance make me doubt he's a match to JD.

@madamx Thanks for all the suggestions above! I can't believe this thread sat idle for so long considering there's a decent photo of John Doe. Hopefully he'll get his name back soon.

I tend to think Gary is a good potential based on their visual similarities. I'm not sure about his drug connections as he could have met with foul play or OD'd somewhere and hasn't yet been found. But, it could also be that he hit it big on a drug deal then started his life over in MA.

Yes I find it odd that considering he had ID with photo and was found in an apartment.. someone somewhere has to know who this guy is.

Kind of reminds me of the Joseph Newton Chandler mystery... this guy had an ID but there is no mention of the name on the ID or any other details of his apartment or anything.
