Maybe the VW owners club can help, maybe they have a chat / forum.
Also the satellite image has been taken at an angle. If it was directly above, the front would be smaller.

I'm trying to upload a picture of my friends van..( not sure if it will work!) this is a 1990s T3 so very similar model. The Suspects van wouldn't have the roof rack of course but you can see the black grill and bumper quite clearly.

<modsnip: Please don't generalize about government agencies>
Madeleines case was dealt with far too slowly on the vital first few hours.
No cctv, no forensics, unreliable witnesses, contaminated crime scene. It’s a hell of a case to solve.

Did the police even try to see if there was any CCTV in the area? The investigation from what I can tell was shambles.

Why is the headline that it’s hours after? There’s a month between May and June ffs. I’m not convinced it’s the camper van either, the bonnet looks too long. Can anyone get a closer shot / different angle of google earth pro (can’t get pro on phone)

It's The Sun. One of the most hated tabloids in the UK. They lied about many things over the years.

They did but due to Portugals facist past, their attitude was very different to public surveillance and there weren't that many cameras. Certainly non pointing at the apartments themselves.

Clearly we need an aerial shot of another Westfalia. I’m sure someone will come along soon with a satellite view image

Hard to tell for sure without ensuring same relative distances, etc., but here's a few that may provide a sense of what it might look like (both of these are T3 Westies):

It needed to be multi-pronged, making lots of enquires all at once. The Portuguese police literally had 'one man and his dog on the case'. I think they actually refused help at various points, when they should have been doing the opposite.

Actually looked again. That first one doesn't seem to be a Westfalia or a T3. You can see double windows at the back, my friend says no 1980 - 1992 Westfalias would have that they have a single rear sloping window.

“Unfortunately I find the Portuguese system very corrupt. The ones that I met basically came to me saying that I was a holiday rep, implying it comes with the territory.”

“They asked, ‘What was I wearing, was I very drunk, did I invite someone into my room?’ The only person who showed me care or compassion was the gynaecologist in the hospital.”

Tubridy floored by ‘bravery’ of woman sharing her harrowing rape ordeal live on air

i just don't understand how a first world country can have such a useless, incompetent police force? its terrible.
if they'd have done their job in the first place, the 72 pensioner and maddie would never have encountered this man. it makes me so angry!

There's a few EU countries like this, it would surprise you. Victim blaming and sheer disinterest is not uncommon. Shame really. Too many go into it without the intention to serve and protect and for different reasons entirely.

I dont see it either, but one thing that has been bugging me since his picture was released is that he looks almost identical to an actor,I think a british one I have seen and I cant for the life of me think what in,or find an image of him. I know its completely irrelevant bit it is driving me nuts:rolleyes::mad:

He reminds me of Oscar Pistorius-phew! Wasn't that an intriguing case!

Do you mean recognise the similarities with the 2007 rape? It would not really be the Portuguese's fault as the 72 year old was raped as Bruckner wore a mask. Details only came to light years later when someone saw a video of the rape.
Lack of forensics is where you could criticise but there is often not much forensic evidence in rape cases, it's why so many rape cases are never prosecuted all over the world.
even less forensic evidence here:
taking shoes off.
covered head to toe. full head mask. leotard. tights.
washing hands.
condoms.
that's very careful planning.

all seem designed to leave no forensic trace.
just one hair found at the scene where he eventually gets found out.
plenty of reasons why he hadn't been caught to that point.
