Major break? Eyewitness News tracked Casey's location 6/17 to an area near OIA

I just want to add a couple things. I live in NorthEast Orlando, and I noticed that WFTV says that it is about a ten minute drive to the airport. I also noticed how someone Mapquested it and said it was about 14 minutes. Just so you know, traffic in this area is HORRENDOUS!! What should be 15 minutes is often 30. I go to school and it should be a five minute drive or a 15 minute walk, but it takes about 30 to drive there at some days. It all just depends on the time of day and what kind of construction is going on.

Another thing that I would like to add is that locals know that wftv is one of those stations that makes up their own facts. Watching their news station is like watching a program ran by middle schoolers. They always say the stupidest stuff.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there. If this is actually credible, then this could be damning. It is interesting nonetheless but I think it might be hogwash.
Thanks a lot for the local vantage point! :0

It's really looking like something happened on the inght of the 15th or on the 16th. Casey would've moved her out to the area near the airport on the 17th. On the 18th she backs into the garage to clean out the trunk. George's story about getting the gas cans out on the 24th is, IMO, BS. I believe he didn't recover these until the 15th when he picked the car up from impound.

I'm going with the 16th, since Tony's roommie said he believed Casey spent the night with Tony Father's Day evening (Without Caylee) and because George says he saw them getting ready to leave at 12:50 p. on Monday, June 16, which is the last time anyone other than Casey states they saw Caylee...plus the "flurry" of phone calls beginning that afternoon...I wasn't ready to speculate previously that these June 16 afternoon calls were "frantic flurrys" without seeing phone records for comparison re: her calling patterns, but with the cell phoen pings now in June 17 in/near wooded areas by airport...it just doens't look good...

I wonder how long a few minutes are.

Two, three, five? Not a whole lot of time to dispose of a body, especially if you include traveling time.

How long would it take to find a dark place, stop the car & leave a very small body??

The police are saying there is no merit to this story. I wonder if that's true or they want it kept quiet?

"Police on Friday discounted local media reports that they had traced cell phone calls made by a missing toddler's mother to a remote area of Florida."

Don't you think they would be searching that area if they thought it held any merit?

I think they police keeps telling us they are not searching at certain places even when we know they are because they don't want "curious cats" and the media showing up and doing their own searches that mess up a possible crime scene. So everytime we get a leak that may be truthful they deny it. JMO

This story is just another one of the typical misinformation from the media items. There is no possible way to tell from cell pings that someone "went into the woods for a few minutes"! That is ridiculous speculation. In the Kelsey Smith case, the pings from incoming calls narrowed down her movements to a cell tower along a highway and near a lake area. However, they still did not KNOW she was at the lake area, only that the phone had pinged off of that tower.

The information from the news source states that they have maps of towers near the Anthony home, not maps of where her cell phone actually was at any time. I heard a cell phone "expert" once say that in an area with multiple towers, any one call might switch between those towers several times during a single call. I am not an expert on this by any means, but I am sure that a call from my cell phone could not be exactly located as coming from inside my house, the golf course behind my house or the street in front of the house.

Sorry, this is incorrect from what I've read/seen/heard. From cell tower pings - which are happening even when you're not on a call - they can tell which side of the tower you were on and how fast you were going - and also, from how long you were connected to that particular tower, how long you have have been in one place, to a degree.

It's pretty damn close - for example, on my iPhone, the cell tower triangulation usually pinpoints where I am within a block, sometimes yards. Pretty amazing and scary at the same time... one of the ways our government can "spy" on us if they want to.

This is true. It would not be abe to pin point an exact location, and pings are not always that reliable. For instance, a tower could be congested and transfer your call to another tower, or the tower could go down and your call would be relayed to the next closest available tower.

Snopes says this about cell phone pings "pings narrow the physical location of a phone only to the coverage region of a particular cell tower, an area that can encompass several square miles." 1 square mile = 640 acres

Heard this on NG tonight....

I think what LE is interested in is checking too see when the phone pinged to one of the airport towers & then when you moved out of that range.

That might tell them that she entered a wooded area.

Your cell phone company will continue to ping your phone if your location moves BUT will stop after about 3 minutes & not start again until you move your location & a tower picked you up.

so she could have been there for a while then, huh

As alarming as it all seems; LE has not released any of this information. LE HAS NOT RELEASED ANY INFORMATION IN REGARDS TO CELL PHONE TOWER "PINGS".

So, the search turned up nothing? Is there some reason that there aren't big searches going on?

Anything that actually "turns up" with LE -will not be known to public. We just have to be patient. :/
;)

In fact, didn't I see a Fox news report that said LE didn't think this was correct info? When I read it it worried me so much! It seems SO plausible, possible, correct! Why not? Why aren't they searching the area too?

I've seen so many tapes of Scotland yard searching over the years. A line of people far as the eye can see, finger tip to finger tip distance apart, walking and searching. I want to see this over Orlando.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Woods and water are the perfect place to hide a body and the one place no one reported Casey Anthony ever visited until now. Channel 9 uncovered what could be a major break in the Caylee Anthony case.

June 17 is the day after little Caylee was last seen alive and it's the same date that Eyewitness News tracked Casey Anthony's location to an area near the Orlando International Airport. From a satellite map the dense woods and ponds around the airport. The more information investigators get, the more locations come into the picture.

Wouldn't a defense for the cell phone evidence be that the phone was there but Casey wasn't?
