I was looking for a working example of the warning sirens. I couldn't find a sound example for the sirens on Maui, but this example of one in action in Honolulu is similar in appearance to those on Maui, and should suffice.
Live testing by Honolulu CD:
The other examples are silent. HNN report from Aug. 21:
Interesting story from KHON2 from 2019:

Over 6000 people (nearly the entire adult population of Lahaina) have filed for unemployment.

And rebuilding to align with tourist interests is, apparently, receiving some opposition. (Same article).

I was surprised to learn that one holiday rental business lost $25,000 in just the first three days of this disaster. Wow.
I dont know what I should say here ,but what I will say here is , I will pray for them and I hate that all good things end. I never felt an ending like that but ,I bet it hurts inside.

Three weeks after a deadly fire devastated Maui, crews have nearly finished searching for victims. But the exact death toll of the disaster is still unclear.

At least 115 people have been confirmed killed in the fire, which destroyed the historic seaside community of Lahaina, and there are still more than 100 missing persons reports filed with Maui police.

Search and rescue teams have covered 100% of the area, according to Maui’s police chief, John Pelletier, while the FBI is scouring the ocean off Lahaina.

Where are the children?

Altogether the four schools had about 3,000 students and 324 employees.

As of Wednesday, 1,757 West Maui students — or 60% of the total enrollment — have not transferred to public schools elsewhere or may have enrolled in private schools, moved out of state or are unaccounted for, according to DOE. A total of 732 did enroll in other public schools in Hawaii, and 478 students, including those in Kula Kaiapuni Hawaiian-language immersion programs, signed up for the State Distance Learning Program.

County officials have not disclosed where road closures were put up on Aug. 8 -- the night of the fire in Lahaina town. But evacuees have shared with KITV4 time-stamped video showing how their paths were obstructed.

The family blamed government officials for not using alarms to notify residents of the spreading fire. It also blames Bishop Estates for not maintaining its alleged fire-prone property.

'The combination of weather, uncontrolled vegetation and aging electrical infrastructure created a tinderbox ready to explode in Maui. The risk was not theoretical. Grass-originated and grass-fed fires continue to increase in Hawaii,' the suit read.

Attorneys who filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric, accusing the utility company of causing the devastating Lahaina wildfire in Maui, are asking a judge to let them expand the suit to include telecommunications companies along with private and public landowners.

Four of those names were identified as deceased on Monday, bringing the unaccounted list down to 27 with the weekly updated joint list to be released on Friday.

The Maui Police Department said only people who have filed a missing person’s report with MPD are being added to the official FBI/MPD joint list, leaving many families wondering where their loved one is.

A woman who escaped Hawaii’s Lahaina wildfire by running through a flaming field has died after spending more than seven weeks in a hospital burn unit.

Laurie Allen died Friday at Straub Medical Center in Honolulu, according to a ******** page set up for her and her husband, Perry Allen.

“Laurie slipped away peacefully. Her heart was tired, and she was ready,” her sister-in-law, Penny Allen Hood, wrote on the website.

Allen's husband, two brothers, a sister and other relatives were at her side.

ETA: She was 64.
Physical therapist Laurie Allen, 64, suffered burns on sixty percent of her body after fleeing the home she shared with her husband Perry and their landlady, who has not been named.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - All 100 people confirmed killed in the Lahaina wildfire disaster have been officially identified, the Maui Police Department announced Friday.

The news comes after Lydia Coloma, 70, of Lahaina was formally identified this week. She was among multiple members of her family killed in the ferocious flames.

[...]

MPD has not ruled out the death toll could rise because three people are still unaccounted for.

The death toll of the Aug. 8 fires on Maui rose to 101 on Friday when the Maui Police Department’s newly created cold case unit located the remains of 76-year-old Paul Kasprzycki, officials announced in a news release Tuesday.

He was one of three people remaining on the department’s “credible missing persons list,” which in late August included 388 people. Now there are only two people left: Robert H. Owens and Elmer Lee Stevens.

Hawaiʻi Attorney General Anne Lopez announced today Phase One of the three-part investigation into how state and county governments responded during the Maui wildfires.
“This comprehensive Lahaina Fire Report and minute-by-minute timeline focuses on the events that occurred prior to, during and immediately following the Lahaina fire. This includes factors such as preparedness efforts, weather and its impact to infrastructure, and other fires occurring on Maui for the time period beginning at 14:55 (2:55 p.m. HST) on Aug. 8, 2023, and concluding at 08:30 (8:30 a.m.) on Aug. 9, 2023,” said Steve Kerber, Ph.D., PE, vice president and executive director of FSRI.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (AP) — Investigators reviewing the emergency response to last year’s devastating wildfire on Maui said in a report released Friday they found “no evidence” Hawaii officials made preparations for it, despite days of warnings that critical fire weather was about to arrive.
