Missing Chula Vista Mom: Search Warrant Served At Maya Millete's Home

Jan 24, 2021

“Today, the Chula Vista Police Department continued our efforts into locating May Millete by serving a search warrant at her residence on Paseo Los Gatos in Chula Vista. The goal of the warrant was to obtain any evidence and clues to her current whereabouts,” the agency announced in a news release. “The Millete family has been and continues to be cooperative, and our investigation is ongoing.”

Neighbors told FOX 5 the search lasted hours, into the early morning Sunday. They reported seeing K-9s and photos showed several white vans outside the home.

Search Continues for Missing Chula Vista Wife, Mother |

Jan 28, 2021

Maya “May” Millete was last seen at her home she shares with her husband and three young children aged 4, 9, and 11. Millete is a civilian Navy employee and has been married to her husband, Larry, for 21 years.

Her relatives became concerned on January 7th when she did not respond to phone text messages in a group chat. Larry Millette said he thought she had locked herself in their bedroom after the couple had argued and he thought she was cooling off.

But Millette was not in her room or anywhere in the home. Mr. Millette later said he thought she went out for a walk to blow off steam, and he said she had previously left overnight after they had arguments.

Millete’s 4-door Jeep Wrangler was still at home, but her cell phone was missing. No calls have been made on her phone and none of her credit cards have been used.

The following day, Millette missed her daughter’s birthday. She was reported missing on January 10th.

Millette did not report to work on January 11th and had not logged in to the office computer system.

[..]

On January 23rd, Chula Vista Police executed a search warrant at the Millette home using police dogs and forensic lights for nearly seven hours. Officers searched the home, garage, and yard for clues but will not comment on their investigation. Her husband continues to cooperate with police.

[..]

A Facebook page called ‘Help Find May‘ was created to share pictures of her and search information.

Anyone with information in encouraged to contact Chula Vista Police at 619-691-5151.

April 2, 2021

Maya has been missing for nearly three months and her family confirmed that, early on, they asked attorney Billy Little, Jr. help find her.

Little said he knocked on the door on January 11 of the Millete home in the 2400 block of Paseo Los Gatos in Chula vista, four days after Maya went missing. Her husband, Larry Millete, opened the door and let him in after Little showed him his identification, the attorney said.

“I immediately noticed the windows all open, the fans on full blast. It was chilly in the house,” Little said. “I was mostly, at that point, seeing if I could smell anything, smell any bleach, or smell the smell of a dead body. And, of course, there was absolutely no smell.”

[..]

“When I went to the bedroom, I immediately noticed a hole – probably 10 inches long by about 6 to 8 inches tall – rectangular shaped; that had been freshly repaired. It was right by the handle. There was a lock on the inside of the door,” recalled Little.

“Let’s say the door is locked and you wanted to break in the door or get through the door. You could punch through that hole, reach through the other side, and unlock the door from the other side,” he said.

Inside the garage, Little said he discovered a freezer was missing.

[..]

The relative claimed he had planned on picking up the freezer for some time, according to Little. The attorney said he snapped a photo of the freezer in the relative’s home.

For months, Little said he has been collecting evidence in the case, including hundreds of text messages sent in 2020 by Maya’s husband to friends and family.

[..]

News 8 reached out to the husband, Larry Millete, and he texted us the following messages regarding Little’s walk-through of his house on January 11 and other claims made by Little:

“He lied and presented himself as NCIS to gain access into my home. He misrepresented himself to gain access to my family’s home as well. Claiming to be NCIS. He lies and misrepresents himself. Posing to be law enforcement

Also I am not quite sure if impersonating NCIS is a crime, but it should be.

More lies, implications and speculations. I do not hate anyone, and just hope people can stop spreading lies and making our lives into entertainment in the media. We are already going through difficult times.

He’s been untruthful from the start and seems to be willing to do anything including manipulating the situation.

My wife is a good woman and she’s missing. Everything else is just noise.”

Three months later, investigation and searches continue in disappearance of Chula Vista mom

April 11, 2021

Little said he believes “there’s plenty of evidence” in the case for police to “take some action.”

A local private investigator, Bill Garcia, also has volunteered to talk to some who know Millete and search for her. Garcia said he was motivated by a desire to tell the Millete children what happened to their mother.

Media attention on the case is mounting. Little said he gave interviews this week to Dateline NBC and the Dr. Phil show.

Maya Millete: Missing Chula Vista mom case nears 3-month mark

“You can get very emotional, especially when people are on you to figure this out,” retired police detective Richard Carlson said.

[..]

“Be patient,” he said. “These are very competent investigators. They know what they are doing. When it’s things that can be incriminating, you’re not going to put it out there because it gives the suspect opportunities to hide it, to destroy it or in any other way conceal it.”

Chula Vista police released a statement Monday saying bringing Millete home safely remains their top priority.

Detectives are working with the FBI and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office in their efforts to find and analyze evidence in the case. They said every resource is being utilized in the search.

California missing woman's husband planned murder-for-hire scheme targeting alleged boyfriend: witness

April 5, 2021

A source tells Fox News that Maya Millete's husband suspected her of having a boyfriend -- and that's where the accusations against Larry Millete take an even darker turn.

The witness who heard the conversations firsthand told Fox News exclusively that Larry Millete frequently discussed paying someone $20,000 to kill his missing wife's alleged boyfriend.

[..]

One of Maya Millete's family members said Larry Millete made threatening comments about the alleged boyfriend last summer, saying, "I want to do something to that fool."

CA Penal Code 187 – Murder -- is included in California crimes that are covered under Penal Code 653f, soliciting someone to commit a crime.

However, take note it's not enough to say you "want to do something to a fool" or openly discuss your desire to pay somebody to "off" the suspected paramour of your spouse, for the allegation to be a crime or a prosecutable offense.

DEFINITION OF PENAL CODE 653F SOLICITING SOMEONE TO COMMIT A CRIME
California Penal Code Section 653f, defines solicitation to commit a crime is as:

Anyone who solicits another person to accept, bribe, commit carjacking, robbery, burglary, grand theft, receiving stolen property, extortion, perjury, kidnapping, arson or assault with a deadly weapon, or anything that can cause great bodily injury, or, uses threats or force to prevent someone from becoming a witness from testifying.

In order to be found guilty of PC 653f, the prosecutor has to be able to prove all the elements of the crime listed under CALCRIM 441 Jury Instructions.

These factors include that you requested another person to commit a crime with intent that the crime was to be committed, and the other person received your communication.

'If anything happened to me, it would be Larry.'

That's the chilling warning missing mother-of-three Maya 'May' Millete, 39, allegedly told her family just days before she disappeared in January in Southern California.

As the search for Maya stretches into its fourth month, her relatives have become increasingly insistent that police zero in on her husband of 21 years, Larry Millette.

[..]

Speaking to Fox News, Richard recalled how Larry had called him asking for advice about his marriage last summer.

'He just sounded desperate, you know, "You gotta listen to me. It's her fault, it's her fault,"' Richard said.

He said that Larry began sending increasingly bizarre messages to his in-laws in the months that followed.

In September he allegedly sent on of Maya's relatives a photo that showed a picture of the couple covered in what appeared to be drops of blood and four candles.

'He did some extreme s**t,' Richard said.

[..]

Maya's relatives told Fox News that they've been cautious about speaking out because they're afraid of Larry.

Larry has declined to speak to the media and reportedly stopped cooperating with police in the investigation after retaining his own lawyer.

Maya Millete disappearance: Loud bangs heard on surveillance footage from night Chula Vista mom went missing

April 11, 2021

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A new audio recording from the day Maya Millete last was seen near her Chula Vista home is raising questions as her family continues to plead with local police for answers.

Several loud bangs, which sound similar to gunshots, can be heard in the recording. FOX 5 obtained the recording from a neighbor’s home surveillance camera near the Millete home in the 2400 block of Paseo Los Gatos where Maya lived with husband Larry Millete and their three children.

[..]

The recording was discovered after the neighbor was combing through footage because their camera picked up audio of children playing outside about a half hour after the bangs were heard.

Chula Vista police are aware of the video, an investigator told FOX 5.

[..]

Larry Millete told FOX 5 in January that he initially thought his wife left to have some alone time, but that, “as the days go by, it’s very unlikely that that’s it, because she wouldn’t be gone this long.”

He did not respond to a reporter’s request for comment Sunday.

[..]

Chula Vista police have not named any suspects and have said they’re working on the case.

Missing California mother Maya Millete sought advice about divorce attorneys on day she went missing

April 9, 2021

EXCLUSIVE: Maya Millete, a California mother of three who has been missing for three months, sought out advice on divorce attorneys in a Facebook group for mothers in her area on Jan. 7, the same day she went missing from her home in Chula Vista.

"Asking for a friend - Has anyone used or have gone through the services of collaborative practice San Diego for divorce? Looking for insights? Positive/negative aspect?" she wrote to other moms shortly after noon, just hours before she was last seen.

A moderator of the group told Fox News that Maya likely said she was asking on behalf of a friend "as a desperate attempt to remain anonymous."

[..]

Later in the day, Maya made an appointment with a divorce lawyer, Marisa Nahale, for the following week.

Maricris Drouaillet, Maya's older sister, said Maya had been considering a divorce throughout 2020.

"It's been a build-up over the year," she told Fox News on Friday. "I think she was ready in December, and then she finally decided to file that divorce that day."

RANCHO SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Hiking through the thick brush of a Rancho San Diego trail off Campo Road and Willow Glen Drive, a group called Maya Millete's Search Warriors came prepared on Saturday.

Down to wearing snake guards to protect their legs, Burke created a detailed search map for the group of 50 to use by scanning a QR code. Burke says they chose this East County area to look for the 39-year-old missing mother of three because someone reportedly last saw Maya's Lexus SUV in the area before she disappeared in January. Some searchers came with ATVs and off-road vehicles.

"We have drones and motorbikes covering a very, very vast area, we’re leaving no stone unturned,” Burke said.

Maya's sister and brother-in-law Maricris and Richard Drouaillet showed up to the search from their home in Riverside County. Burke says the couple travels 2 to 3 hours every single weekend to look for Maya in hopes some new evidence will appear.

This week, Maya's father-in-law Benito Millete said he too hopes they find Maya alive saying, "We are still waiting."

[..]

The family will appear on Dr. Phil on April 12 to discuss the missing persons case.

Missing California mother's brother-in-law: I've 'lost all faith' in Chula Vista PD, but 'we will not give up'

April 9, 2021

EXCLUSIVE: Despite multiple bombshell developments this week in the case of a California mother who has been missing for more than three months, her brother-in-law said Thursday that he's "lost all faith" in the local police department to solve this case.

"We were hoping for some positive feedback or something -- and there was no positive input on anything," Richard Drouaillet, Maya Millete's brother-in-law, told Fox News after he and his wife met with police in Chula Vista, near San Diego.

"They just took our information on where we searched. We even asked them some serious questions. We went in there with a few questions of our own, and they couldn't answer anything."

Chula Vista police did not respond to a request for comment Thursday evening.

What's the latest on Maya Millete? | cbs8.com

4/13/21

SAN DIEGO — On the evening of January 14, 2021, family and friends of Maya Millete gathered for a vigil at Mount San Miguel Park, near the home of the missing Chula Vista mother.

Millete, 39, had been missing exactly one week. The community showed up to offer support. The missing woman’s sister and brother-in-law, Maricris and Richard Drouaillet, also attended the candlelight event.

Larry Millete was a no-show. He dropped off his oldest daughter.

CBS News 8 reporter Abbie Alford was covering the vigil for the 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. She wanted to interview the husband, who was nowhere to be found.

So, Alford called Larry Millete on his cell phone. It took some convincing. He almost did not talk. Finally, he agreed to a brief interview.

Alford recorded it on her cell phone in the back of a news truck in the parking lot near the vigil.

[..]

On deadline for the evening news, Alford picked out the best sound bites and aired her two reports from the vigil at the park. She included an in-person interview with Maya’s sister, Maricris.

[..]

Her raw interview with Larry Millete stayed on her cell phone as an mp3 file for the next three months.

Maya Millete remains missing but a lot has changed since her husband spoke to Alford on January 14.

Evidence in the investigation has been leaked, including surveillance audio of six loud bangs, that sound like gunshots, heard in the neighborhood at 10 p.m. on Thursday, January 7.

Larry Millete has hired an attorney, according to Chula Vista Police, and stopped cooperating with the investigation.

Search warrants have been issued, including at least one served on Millete’s house on Paseo Los Gatos in Chula Vista.

On April 12, Maya’s sister and brother-in-law appeared on "Dr. Phil." The national exposure resulted in more details coming out about the case.

[..]

After Dr. Phil aired a portion of Alford’s original report from January 14, a News 8 reporter asked if she still had the raw interview on her phone.

“Yes,” she said.

The entire interview is now posted on YouTube. All the questions and answers, out there.

[..]

Investigators have not publicly named any persons of interest or suspects in the case. If you have any information on the Maya Millete missing person case, contact Chula Vista Police.
