My father lives in a gated community and it's not uncommon for me to be able to just drive in after the person in front of me opens the gate.Looe, is the parking area of the apartment complex where her vehicle was found "gated"? If so, then the vehicle could only have been left in the complex parking area by someone who had access to the code to open the gate.

yes, I drove by there yesterday and pulled up to the gate. It did not open. It needed a code.
Yes, christy, good point. I wondered about that -- how easy it would be to zip through on the code entered by the person ahead of you -- without the arm nailing your hood.
At my daughter's apartment complex, if the gate starts to close and the sensor detects a car going through, it will open again. I wonder if the arms have the same technology.
Has it been said or are we just assuming that the "former student" is a recent student of hers?
Possibly he was her student 10 years ago and now he's in his 20s and they are friends?
That's correct, it is misinformation. Police filed a missing person's report - officially - on Monday, September 3: http://www.thesentinel.com/mont/news/local/item/5748-police-search-for-missing-olney-woman
The car was INSIDE the gated community. You need a code to get IN, not just out. She lives about 20 miles from the school.

http://www.latimes.com/sns-bc-md--missing-teacher-20170911-story.htmlAuthorities in Maryland will give an update on the search for a missing high school teacher. Montgomery County police said Monday that they're holding a 1 p.m. press conference. Family members of Laura Wallen will also speak.
So
- last seen by neighbours Sat evening
- family unable to reach her Sat and Sun
- Police visited her home "multiple times" before Mon after being contacted by family
- troubling text sent to family Mon 9 am
- missing person report filed Mon
Maybe the text was suspicious because it didn't sound like her. From last sighting to text is roughly 36 hours during which family was not able to reach her. Maybe whoever harmed her saw all the attempts at communicating and decided to sent a reply to calm the family.
I wonder whether LE was at her home already on Sunday or only on Monday after the text was sent? It's not clear from the reporting. It only says LE investigated before filing the MP report on Monday. I guess the family requested a welfare check, but did they do that on Sunday or Monday?
