Only probation? :furious:

====

A longtime Boy Scout leader from Annapolis was given probation and a suspended prison sentence after admitting he took nude pictures of a 9-year-old girl in his minivan in June.

Stanley A. Taylor Sr., 79, pleaded guilty Sept. 14 in Baltimore City Circuit Court to third-degree sex offense and a child-*advertiser censored* charge, a spokesman for the city State's Attorney's Office said yesterday.

Under a plea deal, Judge John P. Miller sentenced Taylor to the maximum term of 10 years in prison, but suspended all the prison time and put him on five years' supervised probation. The judge also ordered Taylor to register as a sex offender and not have unsupervised contact with children under 18, including relatives.

No one answered the door yesterday at Taylor's home at 101 Holeclaw St., though the front door stood open with a screen door closed. His listed telephone number had been disconnected and the new number was nonpublished.

A neighbor, who didn't want his name used, said Taylor briefly mentioned avoiding jail time when the two men saw each other last week.

"He said, 'I'm free as a bird and I'll tell you about it later,' " the neighbor said.

Taylor's lawyer, Warren S. Alperstein, said the plea deal was fair since his client had no criminal history.

Mr. Alperstein also said there were "some evidentiary issues," though he wouldn't elaborate.
