BOLINGBROOK -- Jobless and with no prospects, Drew Peterson spends his days taking care of his four children: cooking meals, washing clothes, helping with homework. All the while, he does so knowing that most of the world believes he killed his last two wives.

......................snip....................

''I've got to get away from this environment and the kids (have) got to get away from this environment,'' he said. The problem is that the house is in his wife's name. To sell it, he needs his wife's signature or a court order.

So he stays, talking about possibly moving to a warmer climate and starting his own business. In the meantime, he's arranged for relatives to take care of the children if he is arrested.

''I'm sure when all this clears up,'' he said, ''I'll get some apologies from some people.''

Jobless and with no prospects, Drew Peterson spends his days taking care of his children from two marriages, cooking their meals, washing their clothes, helping with their homework. And the former cop does it knowing that on the other side of his front door, it is widely believed that he killed his last two wives.

The result is two separate worlds for the 54-year-old Peterson. One is inside his home, made up of the mundane and the challenge of raising teenage boys, ages 13 and 15, a 3-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. The other is out there, where he's recognized wherever he goes, where camera crews follow him, where people whisper his name and can't wait to talk about him on Internet message boards.

Assured early on by authorities that her sister, Stacy Peterson, did not leave home by choice, Cassandra Cales is more determined than ever to know what happened to the young Bolingbrook mom who vanished five months ago.

"Illinois State Police have come to me and told me that my sister did not leave willingly, which is what my gut instinct was Oct. 28," Cales said.

Buoyed by a break in the seemingly endless winter, Cales and friends of Stacy held a news conference Wednesday to announce they were eager to resume the search for answers. They could begin as early as this weekend, weather permitting.....snip

Rift opens between Bolingbrook mayor, chief

"BOLINGBROOK -- A string of robberies in this Chicago suburb has exposed a rift between the police chief and the mayor over how and when to release public information.

Chief Ray McGury suggests the disagreement can be traced to the attention brought to the town by the Drew Peterson case.

For months after Peterson's wife, Stacy, disappeared Oct. 28, the national media spotlight was focused on Bolingbrook, where Peterson worked as a police officer for 30 years. In December, Mayor Roger Claar ordered that all news releases be approved by him before being sent out."

Forensic pathologist who examined Kathleen Savio's body appears before grand jury
Panel investigating death of Drew Peterson's 3rd wife, disappearance of Stacy Peterson

Tribune staff report
March 28, 2008

"A Will County special grand jury convened to investigate the death of Drew Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, and the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, heard Thursday from a doctor who autopsied Savio, a source said.

Dr. Larry W. Blum is the forensic pathologist who performed the Nov. 13 autopsy. In his report, he determined that "compelling evidence exists to support the conclusions that the cause of death . . . was drowning and further, that the manner of death was homicide.""

Friends and family of Stacy Peterson will gather Saturday morning to resume their search for her. CBS 2's Rafael Romo reports that it's the first ground search for Peterson since last fall.

They searched for weeks in rivers, meadows, ponds and parks around Bolingbrook and the southwest suburbs with no results after Stacy Peterson went missing last October.

Now friends and family of the Bolingbrook mother say they're ready to do it all over again.

Drew Peterson Reclaims Seized Computers

But Guns Remain Out Of His Reach

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (STNG) ― First, he got his cars back. Now, Drew Peterson has reclaimed his computers.

Peterson's guns, however, remain out of his grasp.

Peterson picked up his four computers Tuesday from the District 5 state police headquarters. They had been seized, along with his two vehicles and 11 firearms, by state police as potential evidence in the investigation of his wife's disappearance.

Brodsky also took a jab at Roy Taylor, the son of Stacy's best friend and next-door neighbor Sharon Bychowski, and the leader of the volunteer search effort to find the missing mom.

Brodsky accused Taylor of "drawing a salary" for his work as a volunteer "search coordinator." He said he was told the money was coming out of funds raised to subsidize the searches.

Taylor denied that he has been paid to spearhead the search effort and claimed he has been shelling out his own cash for the cause.

Bones found near Lemont are human

April 3, 2008
STNG Wire

LEMONT TOWNSHIP-- A collection of bones found by a young man walking in a forest preserve near Lemont Wednesday afternoon have been determined to be human by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

-

Police responded to the scene and were directed to the remains, which included about a dozen bones from the feet and other, larger bones, the release said. Police could not immediately identify what body parts the larger bones came from.
The bones are human, but the person’s gender and approximate age remain unknown, a spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office said Thursday afternoon. He said the bones could have been at the site for “years.”

Forest District police spokesman Steve Mayberry stressed there is "no reason to believe" the remains are related to any current, high-profile missing persons case, such as Lisa Stebic or Stacy Peterson.

Bones Thought To Be Human Found In Suburban Woods

"While the bones are believed to be human, according to forest preserve police, there is not a complete skeleton and the bones are believed to have been there for well over a year.

Mayberry stressed that police do not believe -- "and have no reason to believe" - that these remains are related to any current, high-profile missing persons’ case.

The two best known cases involve Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson."

The second wife of Drew Peterson appeared Thursday before the Will County special grand jury investigating the death of Peterson's third wife and the disappearance of his current wife.

Vicki Connolly, who was married to Peterson for 10 years, declined to discuss her appearance before the grand jury as she left the Joliet courthouse annex. Connolly told the Tribune last year that Peterson was controlling and told her he could kill her and make it look like an accident.

Peterson's former fiance Kyle Piry also spoke to the grand jury Thursday. Piry, who has said she was engaged to Peterson in the 1980s, told reporters she hoped it was the last time she would be involved in the case.

Stephen Peterson to appear before disciplinary committee
Oak Brook officer wore police uniform, drove squad car to grand jury appearance

April 4, 2008

"Stephen Peterson, an Oak Brook police officer and son of Drew Peterson, faces disciplinary action next week for driving his police car and wearing his uniform to an appearance before a Will County grand jury investigating the disappearance of his father's wife and the death of an ex-wife.

Oak Brook Police Chief Thomas Sheahan confirmed Friday that Peterson will appear before the Oak Brook Board of Fire and Police Commissioners on Wednesday for "using the department vehicle when he went to court in Will County." He declined to comment further."

and

"Meanwhile, a Will County judge said Friday he will hear arguments in late April on whether Peterson's teenage sons will be required to testify before the grand jury.

Judge Richard Schoenstedt granted a request by both the state's attorney's office and attorneys for Peterson's 13- and 15-year-old sons seeking a hearing April 29.

Assistant State's Atty. John Connor never mentioned the names of the boys or the subject of the subpoena in court, but a source familiar with the case said the hearing concerned Peterson's sons."
