George Zimmerman to sell autographs to pay expenses
Trayvon Martin’s killer is kicking off a new fund-raising drive that will involve signed thank-you cards.
Miami Herald
BY FRANCES ROBLES

"With his legal defense fund teetering at less than $15,000, accused murderer George Zimmerman announced a new strategy to drum up donations: signed thank-you cards.

The plan to send autographed cards in exchange for donations was revealed Wednesday on Zimmerman’s legal defense fund’s website, managed by his defense attorney, Mark O’Mara.

The announcement said Zimmerman’s fund — which has raised about $140,000 in seven months — will now have a new manager of the defendant’s choosing. And it makes clear that the legal defense fund doesn’t actually pay lawyer fees. O’Mara and attorney Don West have yet to bill a dime, the firm said.

“Priority for the funds will be as it has always been, in this order: to pay for George’s living expenses, to pay for costs associated with the defense, and then — only if funds remain — to pay appropriate legal fees,” the announcement said. “That has always been the priority plan, and we reassert it now. Once the fund is under new management, there will be more affirmative fund-raising efforts.”

Those efforts include a new website and disclosure of how the money has been spent.

In a move that the announcement noted was “at George’s request,” each donor will get a signed thank-you card on personalized stationery enclosed in a discreet envelope that makes no reference to either Zimmerman or O’Mara’s firm. Donors will remain confidential. Blah Blah Blah.

"Prosecutors released the latest cache of evidence in the George Zimmerman murder case on Tuesday, including new details of Zimmerman's interest in law enforcement and testimony alleging racism and sexism in the Sanford Police Department.

Among the new documents were FBI reports, part of an ongoing civil-rights investigation into the Feb. 26 shooting of Trayvon Martin, including interviews with Sanford police, Zimmerman's neighbors and at least one coworker.

Judge Denies Bond Motions For George Zimmerman In Trayvon Martin Case
CBS12News
Posted by Scott T. Smith / CBS12 News

"SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida judge has denied defense requests to end 24-hour GPS monitoring of George Zimmerman while he is out on bond in the fatal shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

Judge Debra Nelson denied bond requests from Zimmerman's defense team Tuesday. Besides dropping the monitoring, the defense wanted the former neighborhood watch volunteer to be able to live outside Seminole County."

Also: Trial Date set for June 10, 2013

And: Set a "stand your ground" hearing for 45 days before trial where Zimmerman can argue it was self-defense and ask the judge to drop the charges.

There is also a 2.5 minute video showing George in court today.

Another article about the hearing today, Tuesday December 11, 2012:

Judge: George Zimmerman must keep wearing GPS tracker

Yamiche Alcindor, USA TODAY

"1:07PM EST December 11. 2012 - The man charged in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin in February must continue to wear a GPS monitoring ankle bracelet and remain in Seminole County, a Florida judge ruled Tuesday."

+

"Judge Debra Nelson also rejected a request to lower Zimmerman's $1 million bond, and ordered that Zimmerman remain in Seminole County and away from the Orlando-Sanford International Airport. In doing so, she kept in place a July ruling by Judge Kenneth Lester who previously presided over the case."

+

"Nelson did agree to allow Zimmerman's lawyers to re-depose Sanford police investigator William Erwin, whom the defense says was present when police played 911 audio for Trayvon Martin's father. And the state also must turn over the original recording of Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump's interview of a girl identified as Trayvon's girlfriend, Nelson ruled."

Proposal would alter 'Stand Your Ground' defense

http://www.nbc-2.com/story/20386193/proposal-would-alter-stand-your-ground-defense

TALLAHASSEE, FL (NSF) -
Armed citizens would not be able to automatically cite "stand your ground" protections if they provoke or pursue their assailants following confrontations, under a measure filed Wednesday by the Senate Democratic leader.

Responding to the death earlier this year of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old who was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer, Minority Leader Chris Smith, D-Fort Lauderdale, introduced a bill (SB 136) that would also allow law enforcement officers to arrest suspects who invoke the state's controversial stand-your-ground law under questionable circumstances.

These common sense changes are not about taking away gun rights from Floridians, Smith said in a statement. "It's about stemming the culture of violence in our society by putting responsibility for the consequences back into the hands of gun users, and anyone who deploys deadly force under stand your ground.

New Zimmerman evidence: Serino changed final report four times in five hours

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/lo...avit-20121212,0,2874876.story?obref=obnetwork

SANFORD – After Chris Serino, the Sanford police detective who led the investigation into the Trayvon Martin shooting death, wrote the most important police report in the case, he revised it at least four times.

And he made at least one huge change: He initially said George Zimmerman should be charged with second-degree murder, then changed course and recommended a charge of manslaughter, according to a prosecutor and new list of evidence.

Serino made all those revisions to the report summarizing his findings during one five-hour stretch on March 13, according to a newly released evidence list................

On Tuesday, de la Rionda handed the much-revised Serino report to defense attorneys, saying he had received it recently from Serino's attorney, Jose Baez, who advised them that it would likely help Zimmerman.

It's not clear, however, that it will.

Wolfinger was in charge of the investigation less than two weeks when Gov. Rick Scott handed it over to Special Prosecutor Angela Corey, the elected state attorney in Jacksonville.

Her investigators, helped by agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, re-interviewed old witnesses, found new ones, collected crime lab reports and arrested Zimmerman April 11 on a charge of second-degree murder................
