Good grief! There must have been major testing, like MRI's, or CAT scans etc. involved! Were you covered by Mecicaid, and were you threatened with a lawsuit fromt he hospital? I know for a fact, that I could not pay $7,000.00 out of pocket to anyone....for any reason! I would have to set up a VERY long-term payment plan!

MRI. They were kind enough (being sarcastic)to give me a discount if I paid in full and cash, brought it down to about 5300. I had to borrow cash and it was a major hit to my finances.
Worst part was they did not find a thing, we never figured out what happened.

I am assuming Mecicaid is like Medicare???
No I am one of the uninsured and that was the first time I could not pay off by myself within a few months or so.

She did have that job as a checker for four years until 2004, she probably made too much to qualify for Medicaid even though she didn't make near enough to cover her bills. Also, the civil judgement for $10,000 was awarded to the hospital in 2002, we don't know that the services were rendered in that year. The hospital could have attempted to collect the amount in other ways before they headed to court.
Thank you ~ I hadn't tied the dates together that she was working at the time. Another thing, if she belonged to the retail clerks union she would be making good money. It could be the balance she owed after the insurance paid, which went into arrears. MOO

In short, Medicaid is state medical aid for those with low or no income, and no assets. Medicare is available to seniors or those with permanent disability, regardless of their monetary assets. :)

What do you think about Dual Idenity D/O? Ond idenity calm, another emotional, another accepting what is happening. One kind sunday school teacher, good to children, another psycho comes out? :waitasec:Nonni

I guess it somewhat fits with MH's Sunday School Teacher/"class mother" persona one minute and moster the next. Could explain the mood swings when she was confessing to law enforcement, and even the alleged note she wrote with clues to finding Sandra.

Maybe a stretch... I don't know, but its an interesting possibility. From what I was reading on Wikipedia its a controversial diagnosis.

The voices and delusions were the original symptoms that she had developed over years before being forced into treatment. About once a year she feels she is fine, cured and no longer needs pills. The doctors have her meds so well balanced she has no effects mentally, then she starts to back off on her pills a little at a time after months and months of normalcy. She has a terrific husband, but no children, I think thankfully. She is funny and a good person.

But I do hope if MH is convicted and found to be suffering from a mental disease, that she will not be 'cured' in 5 years by a Committee of Mental Health Specialists and set free.

A lot of the time, people on medications for mental illnesses, will go off their meds occasionally, because the symptoms have lessened or diminished and they feel they have been cured. Of course, usually the symptoms re-occure over time, and the patient may not go back to be re-evaluated. Sad.:(

No problem! :D I hadn't thought about her having something to owe after insurance. I wish we could know what that visit was about, could be nothing, but then again...

I think she went to LE "calm" because she was defiant and thought she would win the battle, so to speak. Then the part about her becoming emotional after LE questioned her for a while was the result of exhaustion and the "in your face" interrogation they probably gave her. And as for her other behavior outside of the interrogation room, drugs could explain it as well. MOO

I think if we knew whether it was for herself or her daughter would explain a lot and why her daughter is "sickly". The hospital bill could also be for more than one visit. But it is interesting since wasn't she hospitalized after Sandra went missing and some have speculated it might have been a suicide attempt? :waitasec:

Hi Nurse, I've been thinking about that too.

If this happened to Sandra last year where she was drugged, she has a history with Melissa that might have had her on guard. What if Melissa was about to give Sandra the pills and Sandra wanted nothing to do with it and started fighting back and then was forced to swallow the pills?

We have a window from about 4:30 till 8pm. I think that is a short window but don't think she was killed at Melissa's house. Instead I think she was driven out to the church right away. It was where Sandra was expecting to go I think, as she had mentioned a bible class to her Grandpa.

We first heard from the Sgt that the shed was an active crime scene. I think she was killed in that little bldg. At least where she was stuffed into the bag. If SSandra had been drugged it would make sense she got nauseated and threw up. That could have been a red flag to investigators.

I think she drugged her then got afraid she would tell and put her in the suite case still alive and dumped her,I can't believe this child died in the hands of someone she trusted.

I don't buy the "snapped". I think it was premeditated and I believe she knew exactly what she was doing to Sandra.

I don't think it was a snap either. I think she has some kind of mental illness, (not necessarily insanity), and when all is said and done there maya be some history of this with other children in the past. There also may be history of her being abused as a child.

Sandra Cantu's family speaks out

By Amy Hollyfield

TRACY, CA (KGO) -- Sandra Cantu's relatives say it's tough to hear the suspect's family speak out on behalf of Melissa Huckaby.

Sandra Cantu's mother and grandparents live at the mobile home park, and her aunt and uncle are staying there.

They're still in shock about the arrest, knowing that the suspect's family is out also giving press conferences, and that is tough for them.

"Of course everybody believes their son or daughter is innocent of stuff in life you know if she did it she did it let the police dept determine if she did it," said Sandra Cantu's uncle Joe Chavez.

Chavez and his wife Angie spoke to reporters shortly after the Lawless family spoke. They live in Stockton, but they are helping Sandra's mother grieve.

They are staying in Sandra's home, which is just five doors down from the home of the accused killer.

"I want to go over there and beat the crap out of those people but I'm not going to do that, I'm going to hold back and let the law do its job," said Chavez.

Sandra's relatives want to clear out that even though Sandra played with the suspected killer's daughter, the mothers are not friends. They say they are all just as curious about the motives, and they won't probably hear that until the trial.

The Lawless family said today that they are praying for Sandra and Sandra's family.

Sandra's aunt said prayers are always nice, but it's hard to accept it from them.

---How beautifully said. And I believe this wholeheartedly.

---I don't know when she formed the plan, it seems like she carried it out pretty smoothly so if she can think that fast and make all this up on the fly then hey, maybe she's smarter than I think. Probably not.

One thing I am sure of: she indeed knew what she was doing. If the church or shed at the church is indeed the murder scene then she didn't snap at her own house. She took Sandra there. I can't say for sure how long she planned but I feel with certainty she was cognisant of what she was doing AND that she was doing it. This was not a one-step crime. It had many different and convoluted steps, many factors involved in carrying it out and she was lucid enough afterwards to start inventing and distributing red herrings.

She'll get life, maybe w/ no parole. She won't go to Death Row. I feel it, I could be wrong....

I feel that, eventhough she may think fast, she is not a smart one! Obviously the plan didn't work, and she is not smart enough to keep her mouth shut. Looks to me like she led LE directly to herself by talking.:bang:

That's what my friend who went to school with her thinks - that she was molested or something. What do you thin k about a Munchausen's Syndrome by proxy type of thing? Someone mentioned her child was sickly? I'll have to read more. Maybe she's the kind of crazy that like's the attention and chaos that comes with accidents, trauma, etc. Maybe she killed Sandra and then tried to inject herself into the case with the suitcase story, the note, a call to the reporter, etc, so she could get attention? I'm lost here and just speculating.

I think she drugged her then got afraid she would tell and put her in the suite case still alive and dumped her,I can't believe this child died in the hands of someone she trusted.
I have heard, though, the Sgt. mentioning a "weapon" of some sort, and then there was the searches and the miniblinds, so maybe she was strangled or bound with the cord from blinds after being drugged? I do agree about the drugs since the ME can't finalize the COD until the tox results are back. MOO

I have not heard of Huckaby having but one daughter; this article mentions she has two children.
Huckaby never let her children play outside. In addition, this article states that Huckaby has two children.

I have heard in the news several times that she has two children, and it was asked by one of the reporters in a presser about "children". I have also heard the people she worked being interviewed at the grocery store with speak about "her oldest child", the one that Sandra played with.

I agree with you. I believe that I've read that her father is a pastor as well, so I wonder if there was pressure on the family to look the part of the perfect example. While I think the MBP is a possibility, due to MH's attention seeking behavior, I was wondering if her daughter's thin appearance can be somewhat related to this. Is it possible that MH's daughter is experiencing mental health issues of her own? Is MH trying to "treat" her and the treatment has resulted in her wasted appearance? The daughter is five, MH described suicidal ideation of her own occurring at age six.

Wow! Where is the info on her kid being thin and MH describing childhood suicidal ideation? I'd like to read that. I agree with your post and the one you quoted. There were posts about the church affiliated with her grandfather in which "survivors" discussed excalty what the other poster said, kind of a group pressure to cover up bad things and forgive rather than get LE involved.

All IMO...

May I respectfully add, sometimes people also simply forget to take meds after they are feeling better, the great reminder and motivator, sickness, having been relieved. Then, before one knows it, you're sliding downward again, and then need to start re-taking meds, slowly working up to the needed dosage...

So, that, combined with the difficulties of correct diagnosis and medication type/levels, tend to make the 'not so good times', outweigh the 'better times'...

Awareness needs to be raised and stigma removed from Mental Illness...

This murder may have nothing to do with her illness...whatever it may be...or not.

Getting back to hospital bills on MLH child. Wouldn't the father have to keep baby on his insurance if he had insurance and the mother did not? Seems a child if covered by father or state..........not mother???

I thought it was discovered that the survivors group was from another church? Wasn't that the one the posted a message here saying it was not them?
