Larry King showing a past interview with Merv right now--Merv had a story about Orson Welles, where he had lunch with him and Orson didn't eat much, which surprised Merv since Welles was a big heavy man--After lunch, Merv followed him and saw that Welles stopped by a hot dog stand and bought 2 dozen hot dogs!--guess Welles was lucky that he lived to be 70

Rest in peace Mr. Griffin. Article can be found in it's entirety at link.

Merv Griffin, a big-band singer who became one of television’s longest-running talk-show hosts and formidable innovators, creating some of the medium’s most popular game shows before becoming a major figure in the hotel and gambling businesses, died yesterday in Los Angeles. He was 82.
--In his early years,he had a hit song called "I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts"--It sold THREE million copies!--guess the record-buying public back then were easily pleased

Thanks for reminding me about that song. My dad used to sing that to me many years ago.

I watched them all Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin. I never knew about Merv's propensity for s-x.

I saw the last half of LKL with the old interview with Merv. They should put his old talk shows in syndication would be fun to see all of the old stars etc.

He was one of a kind for certain.

Rest in Peace.

I wonder if his ex wife is still living They had one son only I believe, his name shows in producing credits here and there.

.

Regis and him were close close friends and tennis partners. If it is live, I am sure Regis will have lots to say on Regis and Kelly this morning about it.

Odd, the name of the thread - think about it - GRAVE condition??? :silenced:

Larry king has Merv's son on, Vanna, Trebeck--Merv's son, Tony, gave the real story on Merv's health--He never really beat the prostate cancer he got in 1996--He kept his long battle with it a secret to the public--About 4 years ago he went to see a specialist to try to stop its spread--but It eventually spread to his bones--Merv also was a smoker and he could hardly breathe the last few months--A tube was put down his throat the last nine days of his life--Before he entered the hospital 2 months ago, he could hardly move from one room to another--towards the end he was in much pain and needed to be heavily sedated

I recall there being rumors, way back when, about Merv's sexuality. However, it was never proven, as far as I know. Why do individuals have to come tell the world what their sexual preference is? It really is no one's business. Do heterosexual's announce to the world that they are heterosexual?

I think Merv always had a sense of humor about it when asked. Once he said he was a "Quadrosexual" - whatever that is! I am trying to imagine...

He was a sweetheart to everyone and was wonderful to the ladies, they all loved him, you could tell! (Yup, he must have been gay. LOL) He discovered so many people and gave them a start. One anecdote I remember is that he "chose" people who had "large" faces, that's what he noticed about Vanna White. I watched his show every night with my mom before dinner.

RIP, Merv, you were a class act.

I know. I couldn't care less if Merv was gay or straight.
Rest in Peace, Merv
