A third-party investigative firm hired to produce two public reports on the 2021 Oxford High School attack said Friday that it has endured "extraordinary" interference in its third-party investigation.

Guidepost Solutions officials declined to comment on the source of the interference, but their complaint comes months after educators and administrators at Oxford Community Schools were advised not to participate in interviews with Guidepost's investigation...

An Oakland County judge heard oral arguments on Wednesday morning surrounding questions about governmental immunity protections for Oxford High School officials being sued over their actions during the 2021 school shooting that left four students dead.

Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan said she would issue a ruling “sooner rather than later” about whether lawsuits brought by the victims’ family members against the school officials can proceed...

Anyone have an update on Ethan's sentencing date and the parent's trial date?

Anyone have a link to the court docket?

Thank you...!!!!!

As of Feb. 10:

Ethan
- "(Judge) Rowe said .... that the parties involved need more time to prepare for the Miller hearing, so he’s held off setting a date for it. It’s expected to be discussed at Crumbley’s next placement hearing, scheduled for March 17."

Parents - "Their trial, which had been scheduled to start Jan. 17, is on hold after the Michigan Supreme Court postponed it, ordering the Court of Appeals to hear arguments from the Crumbleys’ attorneys who say they shouldn’t be held accountable for their son’s independent actions."

Not sure who in this thread can access their dockets.

Checked MSM for an update on this Feb. 1 hearing. Nothing yet.

Oxford — Tom Donnelly was asked 25 times during a January deposition to explain how and why his former board at Oxford Community Schools made decisions about whether to hire an outside investigator into the 2021 school attack that killed four high school students.

And at least 25 times, Donnelly, the board president until September, told a lawyer for the victims of the shooting he would not answer the question — although he wanted to — due to attorney-client privilege rules that keep communications confidential between an attorney — in this case, the district's attorney — and a client — the board of education.

Donnelly, who resigned from the board in protest, does not want to remain silent anymore. He is fighting to divulge what he calls the truth about why the Oxford school board refused three offers from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to conduct an independent investigation into the Nov. 30, 2021, attack at Oxford High School.

"Throughout my entire deposition, I had to walk a tightrope," Donnelly said. "I want to give the whole truth. This community is one year and (several) months away and we still don't have answers. ... It's one of the reasons I quit the board. I could no longer go down the road of not sharing information."...

The Oxford school district and its employees have government immunity and can’t be sued in the November 2021 mass shooting at Oxford High School that killed four students and injured seven others, an Oakland County judge ruled late Friday.

Oakland County Circuit Judge Mary Ellen Brennan dismissed all Oxford governmental employees and entities from civil lawsuits relating to the Oxford High School shooting. She concluded that then-15-year-old shooter Ethan Crumbley was the most immediate and direct cause of the mass shooting and dismissed the Oakland County school district and its employees from civil lawsuits brought by Oxford victims and their families.

Even if Oxford Community Schools and its employees were grossly negligent in their responses to Crumbley’s behavior, Brennan wrote that legal precedent dictated that “no reasonable trier of fact could conclude that any of the conduct of any of the individual Oxford Defendants was ‘the one most immediate, efficient, and direct cause of the injury or damage’ to the Plaintiffs.”...

A third-party firm putting together two public reports on the 2021 Oxford High School shooting that left four students dead and seven others injured said a recent court decision declaring Oxford Community Schools and its employees have government immunity from court claims will not impede its investigation.

Guidepost Solutions issued an update of the firm's website Monday, saying its investigation into the Nov. 30, 2021 school shooting continues "unabated" and that cooperation from witnesses continues. The first of two reports is expected in early April.

"Since our last update, we have continued to receive greater voluntary cooperation from District employees including critical witnesses," the post states. "The interviews for most critical witnesses have been completed. We are in the process of scheduling a handful more interviews with critical witnesses over the coming weeks."...

OXFORD, Mich. – The Michigan Court of Appeals will hear a defense motion Tuesday asking the four involuntary manslaughter charges against the Oxford High School shooter’s parents be dismissed.

Initially, the court had declined to hear the case, but the Michigan Supreme Court intervened and ordered the lower court to hear it. That at this stage of the court proceedings is significant.

“It is very rare that this case would be taken up before trial, and the case itself, as the Michigan Supreme Court has acknowledged, is dealing with novel legal issues,” said Defense Attorney Bill Barnwell.

The issue at hand is not whether Jennifer and James Crumbley are lousy parents or lousy human beings. That’s not what determines whether those four charges of involuntary manslaughter stand...

Livestream - Parents' Appeal at 10 am ET today
On Tuesday, the court of appeals will hear arguments starting at 10 a.m. We'll stream it live on this page when it starts.

I was curious why the Michigan SC intervention in this case is unusual.

It's explained in this source dated 11-29-22:
CNN legal analyst Paul Callan said the court's order postponing the trial is "highly unusual," noting that courts customarily wait until court proceedings have concluded.

"The 'causation' issue in a criminal case is usually determined by a jury after hearing live witnesses in open court rather than by a panel of appellate judges," he said. The order, he continued, suggests a majority of judges have "serious concerns" that the parents' roles "may not be adequate to establish legal 'causation'" in their son's killings.

Detroit — A three-judge panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals is set Tuesday to hear arguments about whether there is sufficient evidence to send the four charges of involuntary manslaughter against the parents of the Oxford High School shooter to trial.

In late November, the Michigan Supreme Court sent the involuntary manslaughter cases against the parents of Oxford High shooter Ethan Crumbley back to the Court of Appeals to consider whether Jennifer and James Crumbley should stand trial...

Wow. I've never watch a court of appeals before. Attorneys for each parents argue before the judges. Talk about hot seats.
