Mystery deepens into disappearance of Brendan Santo as search for Rochester Hills teen enters third week (fox2detroit.com)
[...]

On Sunday, volunteers were out looking again.

Police initially believed Santo hadn't gone too far since his vehicle was found in the same place he first left it. His last known location was outside of Yakeley Hall on Oct. 29. Police believe the Red Cedar River, which meanders through campus, could offer proof about what happened to the teen.

Over the weekend, hundreds gathered at Santo's alma mater at Rochester Adams High School for a vigil. Family and friends joined and sang, praying for the discovery of the missing 18-year-old.

Search efforts have expanded to include a heavy following on social media, billboards in and around East Lansing, and hundreds of flyers posted around the area.

The ‘Bring Brendan Santo Home’ Facebook page has been paused. There was another public search yesterday and I believe the police are still searching the river. The pause is rather worrying, because no-one is able to comment, which means of course that no-one can post speculation or rumours.

I hope I’m not breaking any rules by mentioning the Facebook page. It was created by his family and his family run it.

Just checked, and you can still comment on the posts there.

The search continues. Police are continuing to search the river.

"We have not been able to search the entire river. The river is vast on campus. We've searched areas that are of particular interest," MSU Police inspector Chris Rozman said. "I do want to emphasize that's not the only place we're looking. We do consider other possibilities at this point."

So far, police and volunteers have been thoroughly searching every inch of campus. Other agencies like the state police and the FBI are also lending a hand.

"We're putting our hearts and souls into this and it's always important that we carry a level of hope when we do our jobs, and we're still carrying a level of hope," Rozman added.

Divers will be out in the river again on Monday.

That's weird. I can still the posts and add comments.

It's a different page -- I think it's the one she made first and then made another one with different settings or something. It cross-posts, though. I did see this as an explanation of why she paused it. Some people suck. (IMO)

I apologize but we feel it is time to pause the group for 24 hours. In the last two days there has been too much drama and this is not helpful to the main goal of this group. Bring Brendan Home group was created to increase awareness of Brendan's disappearance. To reach any person that may have information regarding his disappearance and for those people to contact the police. The majority have stayed true to this goal but the minority have continued with creating drama and conflict.

Do you know why they've perished in the river?
I mean was it because the majority of the time they were intoxicated?

Or, is it a river that people swim and fish in?

Thank you for your information.
Yes, mostly because of drinking, etc. that led to being in danger around a river. It is not a part of the river that people really swim and fish in; at least, not that I've seen. It doesn't appear that drinking was a factor in this case but slipping and falling into the river could definitely still happen.

Has anything been stated regarding what he was doing at that particular dorm? Was he there to see a friend but couldn’t get in? A party?
What had he been doing previously to going there? Was he in a good mood? Tired?
Had he been drinking?
Having a good time but suddenly decided to leave?

Reward grows as search continues at MSU for Brendan Santo (wxyz.com

“People are crawling around under bushes and they’re looking everywhere and they’re trying so hard," Brewer said. "Our family cannot even express how grateful we are that people feel like this for Brendan.”

Brendan was last seen walking alone from Yakeley hall to Brody near the Red Cedar River. Police say the river has become a key focus area.

“We have not been able to search the entire river," said Chris Rozman, an Inspector with the Michigan State University Police Department. "The river is vast on campus, we’ve searched areas that are of particular interest.”

Divers have been in the river, but Rozman says the search isn’t easy. The river is filled with obstacles like debris, has a current of 5 miles an hour and can have depths of up to 12 feet with visibility of 0-2 feet.

“Our search has kind of continued from the point he was last seen west (downstream),” Rozman said. “I do want to emphasize that’s not the only place we’re looking, we do consider other possibilities at this point.”

Divers will be out in the river again on Monday. Volunteers are also asking any hunters in the Ingham County area to keep an eye out, especially near the Red Cedar River or Grand River (where the Red Cedar feeds into).

Volunteers are looking for his black red wings hat, blue iPhone, car keys and gold necklace.

A current of 5 mph in a river is significant --
-----------------------------
A moderately fast river flows at about 5 kilometers per hour (3 miles per hour), while fast streams during the floods exceed 25 kilometers per hour (15 miles per hour). One of the easiest ways to determine the surface speed of the river is to use your GPS on your boat, like any other moving vehicle.Mar 28, 2020

Parents of Grand Valley State student Brendan Santo who vanished from MSU campus plead for his safe return (nbcnews.com)
[...]

“If you were at the Michigan game that weekend, look at your photos, your videos,” Brendan’s father, Brad Santo, implored of the public as he spoke with Dateline on Monday. “Look at the pictures we’ve posted… Does my son look familiar? Do you remember seeing him?”

[...]

Brendan’s parents told Dateline that he was at the university that weekend for the big football game between Michigan State and the University of Michigan. The night before, Brendan was hanging out with friends when he decided he wanted to head back to the dorms. But he never made it.

[...]

Brendan’s father told Dateline that there were so many people on campus that weekend, many of whom were visiting, that when his friends returned, there was some confusion and they thought he just ended up in a different dorm room.

[...]

Along with the update released on November 12, police posted photos of Brendan with a necklace, keys and cell phone case to help further describe him. ...

[...]

They stressed that Brendan, who had just started his freshman at Grand Valley State where he’s majoring in cybersecurity, was not depressed or unhappy with his home or school life.

“He’s a funny, quick-witted kid who always has a smile on his face,” his father, Brad, told Dateline. “He has a lot of friends and was looking forward to college life and his future.”

I still think he’s in the river. Presumably the areas of ‘particular interest’ include the places Brendan may have fallen in. Would they be speaking to specialists who would know where bodies are likely to have been carried along the river? Or because they mention debris in the river, do they think his body would be caught in something?

There are so many missing persons' cases involving rivers, too many. Often they know for sure but the missing person still can't be found.
I hope this young man did not fall into the river, but :(:(

I keep thinking that maybe he walked to that women’s dorm with a male friend, and left because he felt uncomfortable or wanted to leave his friend alone with the girl. College life. But that’s just me speculating.

Yes! And always males. Do they all go there to relieve themselves and fall in? Ive never understood how so many are found in bodies of water.
