McKayla Maroney says Larry Nassar molested her 'hundreds' of times
The Olympic gymnast says the abuse began the very first day she met the doctor.

Olympic gold medal gymnast McKayla Maroney says former team doctor Larry Nassar molested her on her very first visit to the famed Karolyi ranch — and then abused her hundreds of times over the next five years.

"He said that nobody would understand this and the sacrifice that it takes to get to the Olympics. So you can't tell people this," Maroney said in an exclusive interview with NBC News' Savannah Guthrie for a special investigative edition of "Dateline" airing Sunday night, 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT...

McKayla Maroney says Larry Nassar earned her trust with loaf of bread
The gold medalist says the Olympics doctor used food to groom his victims.

In the weight-conscious world of elite gymnastics, McKayla Maroney says she was often hungry — and there was one person who frequently came to the rescue.

Larry Nassar.

"I think I would've starved at the Olympics if I didn't have him bring me food," Maroney told NBC News' Savannah Guthrie in an exclusive interview for a special investigative edition of Dateline airing Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT...

Why in the world would anyone be restricting an elite athlete’s food that way in this day and age? Even college teams employ nutritionists and teach the players about the proper way to fuel their bodies. Smh

I dunno about that, to be honest. Wrestlers trying to stay in a lower weight class immediately come to mind ... brutal.

And this particular doctor (Nassar) was a pedophile and predator.

Karolyis say gymnastics abuse scandal was like 'bomb exploding'
Couple says they saw no signs gymnasts were molested by team doctor Larry Nassar

Legendary gymnastics coaches Bela and Martha Karolyi — whose training center ranch has been at the center of the Larry Nassar scandal — say there is no way they could have known that the disgraced Olympic doctor was preying on girls on their property.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News, they pointed out that family members who testified during Nassar's sentencing hearings also didn’t know of the abuse...

Same in the dance world - especially ballet. I'm sure part of the reason that I rarely eat sweets is due to my very strict ballet teacher cautioning her students to "stay away from the sweets".

Karolyis: ‘No way’ they knew about Nassar’s behavior
Associated Press

New York – Former USA Gymnastics women’s national team coordinator Martha Karolyi and her husband Bela tell NBC they were unaware of the abusive behavior by a former national team doctor now serving decades in prison.

Martha Karolyi led the national team for 15 years before retiring after the 2016 Rio Olympics. She tells Savannah Guthrie in “no way” did she suspect Larry Nassar was sexually abusing athletes...

Not buying the Karolyis' story that they knew nothing about the sexual abuse at their Texas ranch. All they cared about was medals and money. :moo:

McKayla Maroney says she tried to raise sex abuse alarm in 2011
The gymnast says she spoke up after team doctor Larry Nassar 'went overboard'

Larry Nassar had done "the treatment" on gymnast McKayla Maroney before, but nothing prepared her for what happened in a Tokyo hotel room in October 2011.

"That was the scariest night," Maroney told NBC News in her first-ever interview about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Nassar, the former Olympic doctor now at the center of an ever-widening scandal.

"He went, like, overboard that night." ...

I watched the Dateline special this evening. I hope it will be available on demand for anyone who didn't see it. Definitely a must-see for those interested in this case.

Just heartbreaking and infuriating.

this is a video with the Martha and Bella Karolyi as soon as the Dateline episode is uploaded I will try to post it

You know what's crazy? Years ago I saw a special on the gymnast farm complex. I instantly said out loud, "Oh, hell no! That place looks like a pedophile abuse complex!" I had no idea how right I was. It just had a creepy vibe that made me cringe.

I cannot even imagine how these girls heal. I guess by leaning on each other. This "doctor" ruined so many llives. SO many lives. I am glad we are getting to a moment where people start pointing out abusers, though. He had almost 300 victims!!! Until victims are believed and the crime is taken seriously enough, we will continue to have mass abuse. Because each predator operates under the assumption that the chikd will be too embarrassed or scared to tell. And instead of 1 victim, they end up with nearly 300. With only 2 who told. It's time we empower our abused to tell and feel confident that it will not be ignored.

Karolyis of Nassar: ‘Miserable man’

Former USA Gymnastics National Team Coordinators Bela and Martha Karolyi broke their silence about the Nassar scandal in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s Dateline television news program.

In an interview with NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, the Karolyis were asked in a segment about the Larry Nassar case called “Silent No More” about Nassar’s abuse of the young gymnasts in Michigan and about those occurring on their watch at the Karolyi Ranch in Texas. They said they were unaware of the abuse by the former national team doctor who is now imprisoned.

The husband-and-wife pair who coached America's top female gymnasts for three decades also were asked about allegations of ill treatment toward the young athletes they were coaching...

Aquilina: ‘I support the girls’ in Nassar, MSU case

The Lansing judge whose sentencing of Dr. Larry Nassar brought national attention to the case in January has criticized Michigan State University’s recent handling of the victims.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, during her first interview since the sentencing, also defended her fierce advocacy for the victims during and after the sentencing.

“I support the girls,” she told The Detroit News on Tuesday. “I said that at the sentencing. Nothing has changed there.”

The paper contacted Aquilina after she used her Facebook page to repost a TV news video of an MSU rally Friday calling for interim President John Engler and the trustee board to step down...

Ex-Nassar boss used clinical models with 'sexual intent'

Lansing — Larry Nassar’s former boss at Michigan State University manipulated female students “with a sexual intent” and for his “own sexual gratification,” prosecutors claim in a new court document that includes allegations from two women whom he paid to be nude medical examination models.

William Strampel, ex-Dean of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, is accused of preying on students and was charged last month with misconduct in office, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and willful neglect of duty following claims by several young women.

Attorney General Bill Schuette’s Office filed a motion Tuesday to introduce corroborating evidence from two additional women who alleged Strampel paid them cash to act as clinical skills models for examinations that included vaginal and anal penetration...

Former MSU dean allegedly preyed on pelvic exam 'models'
Dr. William Strampel was disgraced doctor Larry Nassar's boss at MSU.

Former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar's ex-boss — already accused of groping and propositioning medical students — has been hit with new allegations of sexual misconduct with women he hired to be models for invasive practice exams.

Dr. William Strampel, ex-dean of Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, is the latest figure caught up in investigations stemming from Nassar's prolific molestation of patients, including Olympic champions.

"Dean Strampel is not an amusing, bawdy elder statesman," prosecutors wrote in a motion filed Wednesday in county court. "Rather, he is an ugly predator who used his office to harm young women."...

Gymnast sues Karolyis, other groups over Nassar’s abuse

Houston – A former member of the U.S. national team on Tuesday became the latest gymnast to file suit over sexual abuse by imprisoned former sports doctor Larry Nassar’s, alleging USA Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic Committee and the husband-and-wife duo who coached America’s top female gymnasts for three decades failed to protect her and other athletes.

Sabrina Vega, who was on the team that won a gold medal at the 2011 World Championships, alleges the organizations along with Bela and Martha Karolyi ignored signs about Nassar’s behavior or should have known he posed a risk to the gymnasts he treated.

Vega alleges that during medical treatments, Nassar molested her hundreds of times from 2008, when she was 12 years old, until 2012, during competitions and while she trained at the Karolyi Ranch...

Victims question when Karolyis learned about Nassar sex abuse
The couple says they found out in 2016, but some accusers believe they knew earlier.

Gymnasts who were molested by doctor Larry Nassar are stepping up their attack on legendary Olympic coaches Martha and Bela Karolyi, with a call for Texas' top prosecutor to take action.

The athletes' attorneys say the Karolyis may have violated child protection statutes by not alerting authorities to concerns about Nassar in the summer of 2015 — more than a year before he was publicly unmasked as a predator who penetrated young patients with ungloved hands under the guise of medical treatments.

Gymnasts plan to hold a news conference outside AG Ken Paxton's office in Austin on Thursday to ask for an investigation...
