  • LE does not believe his disappearance is suspicious but they are not ruling anything out at this time.
  • At least 75 volunteers have joined family and LE to look for him, according to the Coopersville Informed Facebook page.
  • Michigan State Police are assisting by with the flyover of the river and robots in the water to check the river basin.
  • They're not planning to send a dive team into the river because the water is too dangerous. However, they will continue to search by air, water and foot.
  • "We will continue this operation through at least the daylight hours [Thursday], and reassess where we’re at. If there’s still no location made then we’ll go from there," Bennett said.
  • Anybody with information is asked to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 1-800-249-0911 or Silent Observer.

Police searching for missing teenager
  • Family members called police after not being able to reach HK by late Wed. afternoon.
  • “We walked the area” Wednesday night, Capt. Bennett said.
  • LE also checked the route to the home of one of HK’s friends, about 2 miles away, and found no sign of HK.
  • By late Thurs morning, the MSP aviation team — including helicopter and drones — was searching the area.
  • Volunteers were assigned to teams with experienced SAR members to cover greater areas of the search.
  • Bennett said they were also using robotics and possibly boats to search the Grand River in the area.
  • EK said it was unlike his brother not to make some kind of contact with someone.
  • “He’s been gone a long time,” Ethan said late Thursday morning as he waited for his turn to head out with a search team. “I’m really worried about him.”
  • “All these people at this party and nobody sees him leave,” Ethan agonized.
  • The home base for the search was Gull Lake Marine, where HK had been working since June. HK was a yard man at the dry land marina located on 48th Avenue, north of I-96.
  • HK was scheduled to work Thursday.
  • “He always texted me if he was running late or having trouble getting here,” Rose said. “This isn’t like him.”
  • He went to the party alone and left alone, the Captain added.
  • There were about 20 people at the house located on the Grand River side of Leonard Road during the party, Bennett said. All of them have been interviewed and all have been cooperative.
  • Bennett said the search would likely start again Friday if HK has not been found.

In the search for Hunter Klompstra along the Grand River in Polkton Twp., sheriff’s deputies and detectives searched the area on Friday by boat and with dive team personnel. Detectives continue to speak to those that were in attendance at the party that Klompstra was present at.

Tracking dogs have been used on several occasions throughout the last few days. Authorities will continue this search in the coming week.

Search parties span out looking for missing Coopersville teen
Friends and family of an 18-year-old who has been missing since he left a friend's New Year's Eve party spent Tuesday afternoon combing the area he is believed to have gone missing in.

[...]

“We feel we have cooperation of the people involved at this point. We feel we’re getting our questions answered by the people who had last been in contact with him," Capt Bennett said Tuesday. He says they have no reason to suspect any sort of foul play at this point in the investigation.

So while police work the case from behind the scenes via search warrants and interviews with those who were at the party, those who love and miss Hunter are doing anything they can.

[...]

The Sheriff's Department spent some of Monday doing their own search of the same area that volunteers were canvassing Tuesday. Though they had far less people, police brought some dogs to see what they could find. They also spent some time developing a strategy for moving ahead with their ground search.

Capt Bennett says the department is eager to get their dive unit into a small nearby body of water to see what they are able to locate. The weather has not yet allowed them to do this.
